The first night we showed up in Ouray, every hotel was booked and every campground was full. We talked to Steve, the camp host, to see if there were any openings For the rest of the week and much to our surprise, someone had just canceled and we were able to get their spot! Such a blessing! The bathrooms are clean, the views are gorgeous, and the spots are the perfect size. The spots do book up very fast, so plan ahead!

We struggled to breathe a lot but found the inclines and the hikes to be pretty easy. The entire hike had always rewarded us with amazing views, and we got two lakes for the price of one. It took us only 20 minutes to island lake from ice lake (go right and cross a stream). There was a constant threat of storms, but we weren't turning around. There were campers at ice lake and island lake. I'm afraid of heights, and I was scared once on the ice lake trail and twice on the island lake trail...nothing too bad though. We saw many wildflowers going to ice lake and many marmots going to island lake. There were places to use the bathroom along the trail, at ice lake (behind boulders), and island lake (boulders). The park and trails are well maintained. Trekking poles were helpful. Finding the trail head from the parking lot was easy. There was plenty of parking at 9:30 am. People parked around the perimeter of the parking lot and the side of the road. There was a restroom in the parking lot. The trail is obvious, although not always marked. There are tons of people that hike it at all hours. Side trails are 2 ft wide. The main trail is 4 ft wide. Tips: bring water, snacks, rain gear, trekking poles, a light. Also, travel light. In conclusion, we handled ice lakes well probably due to having adjusted to the altitude, using oxygen canisters, inhalers, and traveling with light day packs. We weren't that sore afterward either. We were just tired. Also, There are no pages in the trail register. We saw people hiking even around dark though. We are from Texas and we're hot the entire time. The creek crossings weren't bad enough to need water shoes unless it's raining. The water is ice cold. You must do island lake. If you can't camp at South Mineral then stay in Silverton.

First change was the way they reconstructed the pool itself which is fine and it's still a hot Springs pool, which is wonderful. The view is amazing just to sit back relax and see the mountains surrounding you is like none other. However, their price has gone up since the 1980s. I believe we paid three or five dollars to get in now it's $30 per person for a day. They don't provide towels but they'll sell you a towel for $10 they don't provide lockers, but you can rent one for $.50 Like I said, I love the Hot Springs pool but it's expensive that's the worst thing I can say about it will I go again, ... 100% But bring $$.

We were checked in by a friendly lady who offered me a Veteran's discount. FWIW, currently, the prices charged seemed higher than those on the website, but lower than other soaking options. We brought our own towels and found a lounge chair to hold them. There are several pools and I was surprised to learn the lap pool is not geothermal water--cool city water there. The first pool was 88 degrees and designed for kids. Too chilly for me, but my son spent most of his time here playing water basketball and swimming around. Second pool was in the mid-90s and felt much better to me. I was also able to enjoy the 102 degree (about my threshold for being "hot") adults-only pool. Watching the pools and surrounding peaks as the sun set was awesome. Very nice. About these things were were stoked. We were not stoked to learn upon checkin that the slides had closed at 6pm, along with the activity pool. This info apparently relies on word of mouth--not their website--to know in advance. We'd have come the next morning had we known. Boo. Lame, even. With kids, this place is a winner if arriving well before the slides close. 6pm. You heard it here. Adults only? It was more like a tiny home or bunk house. But it had electricity, lights and also a space heater to help keep us warm at night. it had 2 bunk beds and then on bigger size bed and a little bit of floor space. We were right next to the river and it was a really lovely view. Prices were fair. And the camp hosts were welcoming and friendly. The bathroom had shower curtains for the doors on the stalls and on the shower. We could not find a water fill station. They do have onsite ice and wood you can purchase for fair prices. It was a beautiful little area just outside of lake city We would definitely stay again if we were back in the area. The water went out one night and we were not able to take a shower that night. The camp host seemed surprised that we didn't have ability to shower in a RV. We were renting a cabin...... We had been climbing 14ers the last few days and just wanted a shower but alas it was not meant to be. Wish they would have put a sign on the door to explain what was going on instead of just locking the bathroom from the inside. We thought someone had just locked themselves in because of the curtain on the shower i went to ask about it and then was told that the water was out. Just put up a little communication about it to inform your guests :) Otherwise wonderful stay.

This Forest Service Campground is a hidden gem. It is located on McPhee Reservoir in Colorado near…read moreDolores. To get here you have to go through Dolores. We only found it by asking the locals about a campgrounds on the lake. There are 2 campgrounds but only this one is right on the lake. We were there in the off season so there was no water or electric. Many of the sites have electricity and water is available in the campground. It also has a dump station. I believe you could get a motor home of about 40 feet into many of the sites. The campground also has a 4 lane boat launch. Some other campers wanted to know how we found it as we are from Washington State. We told them we had asked around. They said it was hard to find for those that didn't already know about it. This campground is under utilized and under advertised. You need to know the name of it to find it on the internet. I found it on Reserve America site. We were here in mid September and they had one loop open. Reserve America said it was closed for the season. The sites are reservable from Memorial Day through Labor Day. After that it is first come first serve and the water and electric are turned off. We arrived on a Sunday and by mid day we were the only campers in the campground.

We skipped the food, having brought our own "camping" fare to eat and the kids wouldn't let us miss roasting hot dogs. We got their propane fire pit--I believe it's $25 for the pit and a full tank of propane. Nothing horribly special about it, but we enjoyed sitting around it and cooking hotdogs and marshmallows. There's no wood fire allows for safety reasons, so this made a great 2nd place. The folks there were very nice. They check you in and lead you to your spot and help you get you larger campers in if you need the help. We didn't have to leave the vehicle. The campground was clean and they were on top of all issues right away. They seemed like a group of friends or family taking care of their own property. We had a great time. This year we returned and things seemed more streamlined. Check in was quicker, they checked on us to make sure we were satisfied, everyone was very friendly. The pool was open--while not an Olympic sized pool, there was plenty of room for about a dozen kids and adults to be playing games and splashing around while many more (including myself) sat around the side of the pool in provided lounge chairs. We were told they were bought by a new group, and this group made some positive changes. First they started carrying a new pizza (Hunt Brothers, I think?) and for 12 bucks you get a pizza with as many toppings as you want with no extra charge--only charge is extra cheese. They were made quickly and delivered to our camp site. They also have a breakfast area with standard breakfast fare, as well as a pie/icecream shop in the main office. They have tent camping, Pull-through, Cabins, and big rig RV parking. Anything you need is available on site. They have laundry and showers, water, propane, and of course all the hookups you need. The new business that owns them seems to want to keep what worked and improve what needed improvement. They actually asked us how things were, what we thought about the changes (they knew we were there the previous year) and asked for suggestions on improvements. This wasn't the kind of corporate buyout where they try to streamline and skimp on everything, maximizing profits while running the business into the ground. Either the new owners genuinely care, or they put people in charge that genuinely care, and give them the authority to fix things. The only employee whose name we remember was Deborah, and she was very friendly and really peppy. She also happened to be the female employee mentioned below. The best part was during the duck races (an event we're told they hold on holidays where you can "buy" a numbered rubber ducky to race down the creek with everyone else's--the money goes to local charities--they said this time was the local Humane Society) Deborah was dancing around, quacking and flapping her "wings" getting everyone else involved while cheering on their own ducks. The race may have only lasted a couple of minutes, but it was a blast. You did not have to buy in to watch--and the ducks go fast! We sent our daughter to buy a few and were told they were already sold out! Pickleball was hard to get ahold of this year--the campgrounds weren't full, but there were some larger families that were quicker than us. We were able to get pool easily. They also put on movies outdoors (though covered). While we were there, they were all kid-friendly movies. I only remember one night was Finding Nemo. We plan on checking out one of their large cabins next year with more family.

Traveling full-time in a 42-foot coach we have stayed in over 400 RV Parks, we stayed here seven…read morenights. (1) Clean, quiet and well-maintained park with great amenities is what you will find here along with a very friendly staff. (2) We live in the age of WIFI technology and there is nothing to stop any RV Park across this country from investing in doing WIFI properly. For some users such as ourselves, WIFI is an important feature and was one of the reasons for our stay here. We were told both by email and phone that each site had a good wifi signal. The wifi in and around our site was just about non-existent. We were in direct sight of two wifi towers, but still couldn't get a decent connection, even at 5am. Other guests we spoke with also had non-existent wifi! We know enough not to count on a good signal over the weekends, but during the weekday there is no excuse. We even had the WIFI-Ranger on our roof with a direct-line-of-sight to their wifi source. (3) Level pads, big coaches need paved or thick gravel pads that are level. We give this park a 5-star rating for having level gravel sites. (4) Maneuverability, some parks have very narrow roads which make backing up and turning very difficult, we found this park to have plenty of room to maneuver. (5) Dust, some parks are so dusty that even after short stays your unit needs a bath, this place is very dusty compared to many other parks, no grass here. (6) Satellite, as you know satellite reception is very hard to receive when you have large trees. If you stay away from the sites with the tall trees to the south you will receive reception. (7) Phone Service, we have AT&T which worked great here. (8) Dog play and potty, plenty of room to walk your dog here, plus there are two fenced-in dog runs. The Bad.... We had a pull-thru site but could not attach our tow car until after we pulled out. Our site was very long but there was not enough room to pull out of our site without having to back up. Maneuverability with a smaller coach and tow car might be possible.

Beware of a couple of things before you book a campsite here:…read more1. They will charge your card for your entire stay upon reserving, not just a deposit. 2. They will not refund your money if you have to cancel your reservation last minute due to the area wildfires creating unhealthy air in Silverton. We had to cancel our reservation approximately 1 week before our arrival due the the wildfires. We had been in the Ridgeway area for the previous week and my wife was having breathing issues due to the smoke. We started monitoring the air quality to see if Silverton was any better. We even drove 1 hour to Silverton to personally check the air quality and it was smokey there too. Do to the poor air quality affecting my wife's Asthma we had to cancel 3 camping reservations in the area and leave Colorado. Silverton Lakes was the only campground of the three to not refund our money. All they did was remind me of their 30 day cancellation policy and would not take into consideration my wife's health issues.. Beware of this before you book a campsite here or a wildfire could not only ruin your vacation but empty your pockets as well.

We were just at Silverton Lake RV Resort. We reserved a small tent site for 6 nights and paid the…read moreextra trailer parking fee online even though we weren't sure we needed it. The check in process upon arrival was very welcoming. A gentleman even lead us to our camp site and showed us where to park the truck and trailer and where to set up our tent. Later that afternoon, "The Manager" came by and pretty much accused us of just taking yellow tags and writing our info on them, told us we needed to move and was very rude! This set a very bad feeling about our stay. He encouraged the next site to make us move when they were okay with our parking of the truck and trailer. We talked with the other site customer and he was fine with the set up but "The Manger" kept encouraging them to complain about it. A day later we went in the office and the staff were complaining about large trash bags in the dumpster and automatically started blaming it on the "tent camper". My husband spoke up and said if you don't like tent campers then don't have them and that he was a tent campers. This resort is very crowded and the sites are very tight. The PROs the bath house was clean, and the laundry facilities were nice to have available. We left early from our reservations.
