Dr Jimenez denied my California patient care. He isn't a spine surgeon, yet his opinion, based on reading reports, stops my patient from getting care. You would think that if you had to make a decision about someone's surgery, you should talk to the patient, examine the patient, and look at the imaging. And unfortunately the patient will have to wait for surgery. And suffer with a spinal cord problem. I think if she gets worse, Jimenez should be responsible. Boycott this doctor. Morton Grove Exactly as all negative reviews say.  Barged in furious that we are talking about major injury so obviously don't need his opinion. I said I was talking to husband you weren't even here.  He said exactly why are you here if you have all the answers.  He left would come back if didn't talk.  Claims he doesn't have to answer questions, only he needs to know as he's best in world.  If we said one word to each other he shouted & left again saying he'll come back when we done talking as we must feel the husband has the answers. A childish  display everyone is treated to.  I told him off in front of group of interns that he was arrogant and if he knew what he was doing he would not be afraid to explain.  He continued pompous braying in loud voice & left again never came back.  This is why he's so far behind in appointments doing everything to fake his importance intimidating his paying customers.   He claimed nothing wrong with shoulder just needs sling at his age, refused to look at ER x-rays as useless, showing break.  Next day we cancelled appointment assistant made & were begged not to cancel as he would be sooo mad.  HA what an a**. Went to new North Shore Orthopedics division of IBJI.  Were told Dr so bad he was not invited to transfer to new place with rest.  Found arm broken at shoulder & bone slid up alongside into shoulder bones.  Husband in severe pain over a month, needed large plate.  Why has this fool not been suspended instead of ignored. Told his interns never to act like him no one else has ever done that.  They readily agreed. The famous tortured woman documentary told later how he wanted to remove both her arms & legs! Another specialist said no not at all.  So he removed her toes & part feet.  Had she seen another surgeon like ours, probably would have kept toes.  Why would he be allowed near her life threatening injuries. read more

I don't know where to even begin. I came in to see Dr. Jimenez after doing to the ER with an assumed fractured foot from ice skating because it was so swollen and painful. Go to see him, he takes X-rays, and comes back with, "It's not fractured, you need to see a physical therapist and get electrotherapy." He wouldn't even answer any of my questions. He takes no time to know his patients or listen to what they have to say. VERY arrogant and VERY dismissive. He acted like he's "all knowing" and I'm some stupid idiot. That's how he makes his patients feel. And let's not even begin to discuss the horrendous wait times to see him! Had 2 sessions of electric therapy and had to quit them because they were so PAINFUL! The therapist insisted that it shouldn't hurt. It only hurts if a bone is broken. So, I go back to him and tell him that the electric therapy is awfully painful and how the therapist feels it's broken. Well....how dare I question his diagnosis!!! He got all bent out of shape and insulted that I questioned him and he didn't have time to listen to my concerns. After that visit, I decided to leave IBJI and seek a 2nd opinion elsewhere since Dr. Jimenez wouldn't listen. Turns out, it WAS fractured all along!!! I decided to call and email Dr. Jimenez directly to let him know about his incorrect diagnosis and how upset I was with him. This character, after 2 other professionals said it was fractured, would NOT admit his mistake!!! Seriously!! He is the most arrogant, condescending, and rude doctor I've ever encountered and I'm shocked that IBJI still has him on their staff. Reviews on him and his unprofessional bedside manner are no joke! Dr. Jimenez does not communicate at all with his patients If it wasn't for his assistant or PE we would not have gotten any information. After a hip repair and being immobile for 3 months I was told I needed a total hip replacement after six months of surgery. I was told at the time of surgery he was going to do a hip replacement but came out of surgery only saying he fixed it. When he said I needed a total hip replacement he walked out and would not even explain why he didn't do it in the first place. I am very disappointed and even though it might have been necessary to fix it he could have given me the courtesy of explaining why he did it and not being so arrogant and rude. He evidently is a great surgeon but would not recommend him due to the way he communicates with patients. read more

My mom went to this doctor after a bad fall off her bicycle wherein she broke her humerus and dislocated her arm by a lot. She found him extremely difficult to communicate with and was frustrated that she wasn't given good explanations of the problem or solutions. When she asked questions, he got very defensive. This princess thinks its acceptable to come to IBJ OVER AN HOUR LATE, then he has his students take notes on what problem you are coming in with, wait another 30 min, take you for X-ray, wait another 45 min and princess Jimenez walks in, only to give you a 30 second talking to, and leaves. No hello, no goodbye cause his visit was shorter than that. Absolutely never again!. Excellent surgeon, but with a NASTY personality! I lost my job (as well as my insurance) due to an accident (broken bones). He recommended a brace to be put in and when i told him i did not have any insurance, he stood by the doorway and asked me LOUDLY - ''well, how are you going to pay for this?'' Your mom can't be paying for this. My mom just bowed down his head of embarrassment! Since then, I didn't go back to this dr. There are many Ortho doctors who are both excellent surgeon and kind hearted like his associates - Dr. Wayne Goldstein & Dr. David Raab! I went with Dr. Arif Ali, another excellent Orthopedict Surgeon with a golden heart! read more

I found Dr. Jimenez a year too late. By that I mean, I needed revision surgery because I did not get proper care following an accident - crushed ankle, fib and tib. Thanks to Dr. Jimenez I'm walking again. From the day I met him he earned my trust, as he without hesitantation, said he could fix my leg. My revision surgery had to be in two careful stages, first taking out the hardware that was placed a year earlier, then back two months later to cut and set my leg. Then another six months to heal. Prior to seeing Dr. Jimenez, a BKA (below knee amputation) was a consideration. Thanks to his skills and knowledge I have my foot and lower leg. My entire experience from that first visit to the last visit more than a year later, was positive. He has superior people work along side him at an awesome hospital. He's honest and forthright, too, with words of caution about my outcome. My life was forever changed thanks to him. I will NEVER forget him. Dr. Matthew Jimenez is a world class surgeon!!! Earlier this year I suffered a traumatic accident. I was referred to a well known orthopedic surgeon who has healed many major professional sports players. This doctor agreed to see me, but when he saw the CAT scans of my injury - he told me that he was in not able to go further because my injury was beyond his scope. He did tell me that there was only one doctor who could possibly heal me. He had his office call Dr.Matthew Jimenez' office right then - and Dr. Jimenez made sure to have room to see me the very next day. When I met with Dr. Jimenez he calmed me with the confident assurance that he could in fact heal me - if all went well. He took his time and explained to me exactly what type of fracture I had and honestly shared possible outcomes I had emergency surgery a few days later and was discharged with a prescription for powerful pain relief. I had absolutely no pain at all after my surgery - none - and threw away those pills. I returned to Dr. Jimenez for my first follow up and the x-rays confirmed why I had no pain. Dr. Jimenez is a world class surgeon. His main focus is on the whole patient. He is not only a great surgeon, but he takes that extra time, that I would never have expected to reassure a patient and he explained in detail with me exactly what he did in the surgery, how my leg looked and his prognosis. I am beyond grateful that Dr. Jimenez was there in a time of despair and I can not recommend him and more fully or strongly. read more

I NEVER write reviews but Dr. Jimenez is a great surgeon! I don't understand the bad reviews. He was very caring and empathetic about my injury. He is very busy but not rude at all. Answered all my questions and took his time. I recommend him to everyone! His staff is awesome also! They filled out all of my paperwork for work in a very timely manner. Dr. Jimenez did a great job on my knee! I had two meniscus tears and some floating cartilage and bone fragments. I was in a great deal of pain prior to the surgery. Today I am 1 week out and pain free! A little stiffness and swelling still but as to be expected. I am thrilled with my results! My only complaint would be the office wait time to be seen. He is a very busy surgeon. I also had a 12:15 surgery time and wasn't taken back untill 4:45 due to an emergency first thing in the morning. I would've given him 5 stars but the wait time is an issue. However, I think he was worth the wait. read more

Dr. Jimenez, or "Savior" as he calls himself (I'm not kidding!), is the most arrogant, condescending doctor we have ever met! A family member had surgery and Dr Jimenez performed it and did an excellent job. This review is not about his surgery skills, it's his bedside manner. We as a family have thanked him for doing a great job with the surgery. After surgery, he came in to tell us it went well. Asked if we had any questions and of course we did. He would give us one word answers. He made it very clear that he really wasn't interested in our questions. I decided to tell him what a great surgeon he was and sure enough, that got him talking! He will talk about himself with no problem! Ask anything else and you get a one word answer. Follow up visit a couple of weeks later. First time in his office. Dr comes in after X-rays and all that stuff was done and doesn't ask how the family member is doing, just states how great the surgery went, what an awesome job he did, how he is only one of five doctors that can do the work he does and you'll never find anyone better. He then proceeded to tell us that he was our 'Savior', blah, blah, blah. Honest to God this man did not shut up about how wonderful he is! I dared ask a question that he obviously didn't want to talk about and immediately started talking down to me. We wanted to know what the next step is, as the family is concerned about his continued recovery time. We felt it was a legit.question and never in a million years did we expect him to go off on us! He started on how he hates rehab places and it's all about the money and how they have ruined his awesome work and Obama and you name it, he ranted about it and made it seem like WE were the ones that wanted to argue about it! We sat there with our mouths open, speechless! He made us feel like idiots! We have never been treated so badly by a doctor before, ever!!! Totally uncalled for. Totally unprofessional! What an arrogant asshole! I don't care how good you are at what you do. There is such thing as being polite, caring and helpful to your patient. Make THEM feel like they matter and not make them feel scared or embarrassed to talk to you. We will never recommend him to anyone. There are awesome doctors out there that not only do great work, but don't call themselves your savior and treat you like crap. The other reviews I read here are right on. He is a doctor that once he does the surgery and gets paid, he treats you like you are second class. You can tell he doesn't want to talk to you, but knows he has to. Shame on you, Dr. Jimenez. You need some lessons on human compassion. You need to think about your patients and their families and how scared they are and that they are going to have some questions and concerns. If you don't want to answer them or take the time, then be sure to have a nurse or social worker that can take the time. Zero Stars - Stay away I saw Dr. Jimenez when I broke my two fingers in my hand - he is extremely arrogant, very disrespectful and doesn't think he needs to answer your questions or even treat you properly. He should have splinted my hand or sent me to a hand specialist - instead he underplayed the break and said just tape the fingers and come back and see him in 4 weeks. On my follow up visit I waited over 1 hour and 50 minutes just to be called back to an exam room, such disrespect for my time - when I did see him he blew off my questions, didn't even take an X-ray to see if I had healed and said I needed OT. He spent less than 1 minute with me after waiting for 2 hours and treated me like a child who did not have the right to ask him questions. When the OT specialist followed up to request an order for a splint he ignored their repeated request for over 3 weeks. At the recommendation of the OT specialist I went to another hand doctor. The new doctor who is great took an X-ray and told me unfortunately one of my fingers had healed at a 30% angle - it really should have been splinted - at this point he started working with the OT specialist to get my fingers working again. Can't fix the angle at this point. I would never go back to Dr. Jimenez or let anyone in my family see him. read more

Dr. Jimenez performed surgery on my broken hand a few years back and did an excellent job. He answered any questions I had and made me feel very comfortable throughout the process. My hand felt 100% within 2 months of the surgery, haven't had a single issue since. I see some people complaining about his personality (or lack thereof), and to them I say grow up. He's not there to be your shrink or your best friend, he's there to fix whatever is broke on your body so you can live a happy and pain free life. I was referred to Dr. Jimenez by my primary and came to Illinois bone and joint for an initial consultation. The first appointment went well but I noticed the exam room was not clean. The doctor ordered a MRI in there facility. I arrived 10 minutes early for the appointment and waited almost one hour for the MRI. I was informed the patient before me was late. I had a feeling this was the normal course of business for them and they cram in as many patients in as possible and never cared about wasting my time. When I arrived for my follow up appointment again I arrived 10 minutes early and was told to sit in the waiting room. Over one hour past and I was taken to an exam room. I expected to see the doctor soon. An intern came in and asked me several questions that I had answered when I came in the appointment and was told the doctor would be in shortly. Almost one hour later I decided to leave. Dr. Jimenez called my cell phone a left a message regarding my condition and that his staff would call me the next day to arrange physical therapy .I am still waiting for the call over a week later. Dr Jimenez apparently has no respect for my time and simply should have had his staff inform me he was running very late and I would have rescheduled the appointment. Asking a patient to wait over two hours to get medical advice that apparently could have been given to me over the phone shows a greed for billing a many patients as he can with no regard for his profession. read more

The first time I saw him he basically told me and my family to shut up when we asked some questions about my broken foot. I saw him on 1/6/16 after a fall sent me the ER. He looked at my x-rays and declared my foot was not broken. He never examined my foot. Said I should try to walk on it, it would take about a month to heal, I could wear a boot or not,and no follow up visit. After 6 weeks and still can't bend my big toe, I went back. He proceeded to tell me "in language I could understand" that I have an "ouchie". Went on about how we all heal differently. Said I should keep moving and walking unless I wanted to modify my activity, then I could not do so much. Well, which is it? Talked about how he is a surgeon!! NO personality. Dr. Jimenez is truly amazing!! I had to have both hips replaced within a short period of time. He took as much time as I needed to explain the anterior approach, the benefits of this as opposed to the posterior, and answered all of my questions clearly and thoughtfully. I have had a few surgeries and have yet to find a doctor so focused on my needs, concerns and medical condition as Dr. Jimenez. I had the utmost confidence in his abilities and knowledge. But the best news has been my amazing recovery!!!! I have met several people who have had hip replacements, and my recovery has been remarkable compared to theirs. I was very upset when I heard my arthritis was so bad in my second hip that I need it replaced as well. The only consoling part was that I had the best surgeon to take care of it for me. And my second surgery recovery has been even better than the first. He is a top notch surgeon who is an expert at what he does. I highly recommend him. Dr, Matthew L. Jimenez is a highly skilled Orthopaedic Surgeon who shows extraordinary compassion while succeeding against all odds, on cases too daunting for other top orthopaedic surgeons. I'm sharing my story so you will understand his remarkable skills, beyond compare. I crushed and shattered both my tibia and fibia bones in my right leg over 3 years ago. I underwent emergency surgery and insertion of metal plates. I have been a Type I insulin dependent diabetic for 46 years and along with my age, healing is always a concern. Within two months I developed a raging infection in my leg that traveled to the bone, requiring the removal of the metal plates and removing some bone. At this point, my surgeon advised that my situation was beyond his skills and referred me to another renowned surgeon at a different practice. This surgeon performed two more surgeries and I endured multiple painful treatments over two years, only to find out there was nothing more he could do to save my leg and amputation was his recommendation.
