My dad, a distinguished US Army veteran of three wars and over 35 years of military service, passed away at the age of 97 and was interred with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery in a powerfully emotionally moving ceremony superbly performed by the great soldiers of the Army's "Old Guard". To say the least, his funeral was a significant event in our family's history. I had not even thought of having it photographed until I received a brochure from Mattox Photography in Alexandria explaining how they did both still and video photography of Arlington interments. Now that several months have passed, our family is very grateful to Mattox Photography for the way they preserved these precious moments for us and allowed us to share the experience with other relatives and friends unable to attend. Mattox is great and I would recommend using them to anyone having a ceremony at Arlington. All I could focus on at the time was to get me and family in a time of great grief to the cemetery and to and from airports. The Mattox flyer in the mail got me thinking, and all I had to do was contact them and they did the rest. I treasure the resulting book of photos. For those who are apprehensive about a photographer in your midst during such a private time, relax. Yes, there were a few stagings of group shots inside the waiting room beforehand in the Admin building, and it seemed a little awkward at the time, but now are glad we did because no one else felt right bringing a camera or taking pictures. But after the cemetery staff collected us and we left that building, the Mattox photographer was out of sight and out of mind. The photos are excellent and captured so much of what I had missed of the full military honors rendered, by being so into the moment of the funeral. I wasn't even aware there were services that photographed (or video) services at Arlington, and at first I wasn't sure about photographing a funeral but I am SO GLAD I arranged this with Mattox Photography. This truly fits in the "priceless" category. This service meant the world to my father, and to us for him. People from both sides of my family traveled distances to attend this, and of course others could not attend. Mattox Photography captured the service absolutely beautifully, as a memory for those in attendance, and so others can see the beauty of this awesome service. They even arranged the flowers I wanted for the ceremony and connected me to a service for drivers for us. Everybody I spoke to and worked with was extremely professional and caring, and the end product was amazing. They even went back and captured the permanent niche cover when it was put in place later. I contracted with Michelle at Mattox on very short notice to take photos of my husband's full honor military ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery on April 15, 2016. Kira, their very skilled, professional and deeply sensitive photographer was such a gift to us. The service started 30 minutes late, and she remained very patient and kind. She interacted beautifully with my family, which included young children, in the family room, taking multiple photos, and then proceeded to take the most sensitive and high quality photos of the entire ceremony. Mattox Photography did a wonderful job for my husband's funeral at Arlington in July. From the first phone call they were a big help. I had no idea where to start, they helped me with finding other services we needed. Very friendly. On the day of the funeral the photographer introduced herself, helped us organize for family pictures. The remainder of the procession and service she was very behind the scenes very professional. The pictures are beautiful. We have something very special to show our families who could not attend. My husband's funeral was to honor to him and they captured this day beautifully. Mattox did an outstanding job at my fathers' funeral at Arlington in early April. I appreciated the mailing from them because, until then, I hadn't even considered documenting the ceremony. I contacted them a little more than a week before the funeral, and despite the short notice, they were able to accommodate my/our request. The photographer, Jessica(?), was very professional and I appreciated that she did her thing out of the way and did not require much interaction with family or guests. All of the photos they presented for review were very well done - well framed, focused and appropriate. They even offer photos from their extensive stock collection of Arlington Cemetery for inclusion in the print packages. I cannot say enough about the professionalism and kindness shown to our family during the funeral of my brother-in-law. Every aspect of the services provided was explained in great detail and even though I am sure I asked the same question more than once, Michelle was just so patient and kind and it meant so much to me. The video was excellent. There were planes going overhead which Mattox Photography had no control over but they did the best they could. Also, it was windy and sometimes it was hard to hear but again, they did their best. So many people were able to "attend" his funeral because of Mattox Photography. There were also many pictures taken and as soon as they are edited we will have a book to keep for years to come. Michelle Mattox did an outstanding job at my dad's burial at Arlington Cemetery. At first I wasn't sure it was the thing to do but I am so glad we did. My dad had the full military honor service with the caisson and band, you don't get a chance to see everything so the pictures let you see what you missed. Having a burial at Arlington Cemetery is truly a memorable experience. We had a lot of family that were unable to attend and are so glad we have pictures. My only regret is that we did not do the video, we have some videos on our phones but it's not quite the same as a professional besides we were emotional and they wouldn't be so much although any service at Arlington is emotional even if you are just passing by someone else's. BTW we got the roses and they were beautiful, I would highly recommend Mattox Photography. read more

This was an obviously somber experience for our family, travelling to Arlington National Cemetery for the burial of our patriarch, but Mattox recorded it all photographically with taste, discretion, and professionalism. Mattox did an outstanding job on both the photography and video at my father's funeral at Arlington Cemetery. It was a completely no-hassle process and everything ran very smoothly. Mattox Photography did an amazing job with my father's interment at Arlington National Cemetery. The photographer was incredibly professional and blended into the background. While it seemed odd at first to hire a photographer for such an occasion, it was exactly the right decision. Arlington is such an incredible place, and there were so many things to take in all at once during the service. It was nice to look at the photographs after the service and see a lot of moments we missed. Mattox is also a great one stop shop for flowers and wreaths. Thank you Mattox Photograpy! I contacted Mattox because a friend was at Arlington Cemetery and suggested using a photographer. Mattox went over everything with me on the phone. I did call other phographers in the Arlington area but they were way more expensive. The pictures of my dad's burial came out great. Jessica did an awesome job. Jessica came back to Ft. Meyers Officer Club for a luncheon to take pictures of my family who live all over and we will cherish those photos forever. We chose the DVD package since there are five of us it was a better deal and we have all rights to print pictures. I contacted Mattox Photography only a week before my husbands inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery and was grateful that they were able to take the assignment on such short notice. The photographer, Kira, arrived before the ceremony and was able to take some wonderful family photos. Through out the entire ceremony she was very inconspicuous. I am very glad we decided to have my husband's Inurnment ceremony photographed. We chose Mattox Photography, and they did a great job. I believe Kira was the photographer and she was quite unobtrusive and professional, as she took pictures of all the highlights of those solemn moments. The group photos also turned out well, as she picked the best ones for us to choose from, since no one looked 'peculiar' or had their eyes closed. I hired Mattox Photography to take photos of my husbands funeral at Arlington. Throughout the entire process Mattox Photography staff were helpful and very patient with all of my questions. The price was reasonable and good value for the money. The funeral was just 5 days after the blizzard and the photographer had many obstacles to overcome from deep piles of snow preventing movement to extremely high winds.
