Research after research... decided to go with Danielle. Why? Her pictures. Her style is very CLEAN, modern, crisp yet soft, and simple yet not boring. And I'm so glad I went with Danielle. Booking for newborn session was super easy and she provides you with ton of information so you're not left lost before your booking session. Her studio is super cute and she keeps it nice and cozy inside for your little one. Danielle and her assistant, Sarah, we're super gentle and loving handing my newborn and it put me at ease knowing that. So after your session, which can last about 3 hours, you go back to the studio about a month later and you get to see the pictures!! And we loved ALL of them!! They are super helpful with their suggestions on what products will work best for you. All I'm saying is... your little ones are only little for so long. It's worth the investment. I commissioned Carrie Collins Photography to take photos of a cake smash/family session over a past…read moresummer/fall. The photographer came up with the idea to split them into two sessions, per experience, for which I agreed because I thought it would help her capture better photos. The first session (cake smash) turned out well. I thought these photos were well planned and nicely executed with the help of an assistant. It was the way the second session was handled in its aftermath to which I regretfully cannot recommend this photographer. The second session did not turn out photos that I felt accomplished our original purpose of getting a nice full family shot. I have 3 young children so I understand the challenge, but I thought her interaction with my kids (helping coax them into good shots) was mediocre at best compared to other family photographers that I've worked with. The photographer herself proposed a re-shoot but subsequently for the next 2 months, never followed up with any dates. When I asked if I could keep the few photos from the second session that I acknowledged turned out, she sent me low resolution images. My impression from this was that she didn't want me to have them. When I followed up in Oct (first session took place in July) about the re-shoot and images from the second session, I felt she became irate for some unknown reason. I am very disappointed that the subsequent communications from her felt unfriendly and un-empathetic for someone who works with clients and is in the newborn/maternity/family photography trade. In short, our communications deteriorated to the point where I no longer wanted a re-shoot. I'm not saying I didn't contribute to where we ended up. Clearly it takes two to engage in conflict. I did try to understand where she was coming from. But I also felt she as a business owner, dealing with me as a client, should have also taken more time to understand my feelings and find a way to repair our interaction. We eventually settled the transaction, but I feel hurt by what has transpired and the damage had already been done. Ultimately, I feel my family got nice cake smash (first session) and a few individual shots from the second session for which she does deserve credit but in the end fell short of my overall expectations. As someone who has had professional photos taken for years, and having worked with multiple family photographers and never having had an issue until this one, I can say with certainty that I will not be coming back to Carrie Collins Photography. It's unfortunate, because to me, the photos I did get and paid for (i.e. my special memories of my husband and kids) will forever feel tainted.

Home Studio Cleanliness: 10/10 Experience: 10/10…read moreTime of Returning Photos: 2-3 days I used Birhan Studio's service twice: 1) The first time, I needed headshots for the Miss Rockville/Miss America competition. 2) The second time: He and I were doing a collaboration for different outfits. He currently has a home studio set up on the second floor. As a model, I am accustomed to home studios since I have worked with many photographers with a studio set-up in their house. His studio setup was on the smaller end but it was well-organized and you are able to get both headshots and full-body shots. He used his office space efficiently and linked his photos directly to his computer so that you could preview the photos immediately to see if you like them. He is knowledgeable of light set-up and will ensure that there is proper lighting before taking the photos. Once that is set-up, it takes about 15-30 minutes/outfit. He also helps direct the poses, making me feel comfortable! For returning the photos, he does edit them. The editing style is a mix, sometimes it looks a little "too perfect," while other times, it looks a little more natural. Inform him of the editing kind of style you want if you are particular. I received the photos in about 2-3 days, which is quicker than some other photographers in the area who send them around 2 weeks. The photos are sent via a website called "pixieset," making them easy to purchase and download. Both photoshoots I had with her were studio photoshoots, so I am unsure how he is like in natural lighting or outside photos. Overall, I would definitely do another photoshoot with him! He's cordial, time-efficient, and delivers great results.

Houndstooth participated in a charity event with K-9 Lifesavers Dog Rescue several months ago by…read moreoffering free sitting to anyone attending the event with their dog(s). We took our two dogs (pre-dog 3 and dog 4) into the city for the first time to get some photographs taken of them since they are naturally the best looking dogs around. Bob-O and Bella were very distracted by the new scents, odd sounds, various people, and the cookie table caught Bella's eye the minute we walked in. Bob-O would have probably noticed it, too if he wasn't only two inches off the ground. There were two women helping with the photographs - one with a camera and one with a ball. They were both wonderful with the dogs, trying anything necessary to get them to focus long enough to hold still. They took many pictures while were there regardless of whether or not the kids were actually in position to be photographed. We were hoping that at least we'd get one or two good ones of them before leaving. While we started to feel ourselves getting a little frustrated at Bob-O's and Bella's inability to sit on the white paper rather than sitting every where else, the Houndstooth crew never showed a moment of irritation or frustration at trying to get the dogs to hold still for a few shots. Big plus for us. The pictures were adorable and well worth the trek into the city. We plan on getting pictures taken again once the Dog #4 is full grown - so we have the entire family together. The prices for the sitting are a little expensive - I'd rather pay more for pictures when ordering than pay an upfront fee for the sitting - but they are great at getting good shots. Plus, if you're a client of The Backyard Pack you get 10% off the sitting cost! Now that's a great deal.

We started outside of my house and walked down to Shirlington and took photos at the park. She got great photos of my dog in the water, I never would have been able to crouch down and do all that. Many of the photos were literally breath-taking and everyone who's seen them loves them. I'm having so much trouble deciding which ones to buy as prints since they're all amazing! I wish I'd found her when my dog was a puppy because I really wanted to capture those days but better late than never.

Our daughter attends Bella Ballet and in preparation for their recital, we paid $100 in advance for 4 poses. We just received the photos and apparently, to actually receive digital copies of the photos, it is $100 per photo. That means, to get the full set of 6 photos, it is $600. That is exorbitant. This was also a tremendous waste of our time, dressing our daughter in the recital outfit, doing makeup, hair, etc. -- all for a single digital photo. (They do prints also, but you don't get the digital photo if you do the prints, and those also result in shipping charges.) Honestly, I view this as a type of scam. Again, if any part of this is incorrect, let me know and I will change my review, but it seems this $100/photo situation is actually the case.

The results for both were amazing! Erica is very professional and extremely talented. During my step daughter's birthday session it pouring down rain. Erica worked with the weather and captured some adorible pictures of the girls in the rain with umbrellas. She was great at giving the girls direction and talking to them on their level. We are so happy with all the photos. I recommend Erica to all of my friends. We will definetly use her again.
