I had a very unprofessional experience with Vanessa Ortega- recruiter. She reached out to me twice about scheduling an interview, but never followed through or actually set it up. When I checked the company's site, the job she mentioned didn't even appear to exist in that location. She later claimed the company had emailed me directly, but I never received anything (and I have the email receipts to prove it). I'm not sure how I originally became in contact with Matura. I believe a friend of a friend suggested them many years back when I was in the Legal field, but I honestly don't recall. I do know that I've gotten about 1-3 cold calls from this agency a year for the past handful of years, even though I've consistently asked to be removed from their list for the last three. And when I'm not getting calls, I'm getting LinkedIn messages. I've gotten to the point with them that the next time I'm contacted by this company I will be reporting it to the Federal Trade Commission. If you too have had the same issue with them you can report it at complaints.donotcall.gov or 1-888-382-1222. Because if someone asks you to remove them from your call list, it's polite and good business to remove them. read more

I met with her and after getting to know me, she scheduled an interview with a company she felt would be a good fit. I went through a very thorough interview process complete with testing and Alison guided me the whole way. ATTENTION: their reviews are a total scam! Be aware! Really unprofessional people! I read all these great praising reviews and sent them an email with my updated resume, telling them that I'm looking for a new job, and saying that I can't wait to be working with them. In about 5 minutes (you would think it's a good thing), I get an email from a person who didn't introduce himself/herself or even sign his/her email, didn't greet me in any way, and just sent me a question without a question mark. That alone was unprofessional to me. I answered the question, he/she sent me another one in the same manner, I responded. Then he/she sent me a condescending email criticizing my resume. When I made a comment on why I decided not to disclose some information, he/she just forwarded my email to his/her colleague. All of sudden, I get an email from Nicole. She actually did say hi, introduced herself, and asked me when I can speak with her about my background. I still felt a bit off about my whole experience so far, especially since Nicole didn't even think about hiding/erasing email history, and I could see how that previous person just brushed me off basically to someone else. Not a nice feeling, and disrespectful, too! Anyway, we set up a time and she called me. From the moment I picked up the phone, I already knew I will never hear from them. Have you ever spoken with a person who didn't even pretend to be nice or care? That was the case. Throughout the entire conversation, I didn't hear any human emotion in her voice. She asked me all those standard cliché questions, basically focusing only on my salary history and reasons why I left my previous jobs. Superlame agency. Thank the Lord that I am no longer looking for work. But when I was, these people killed me. I was working contract and getting paid by the hour and this Recruiter calls me . . . Sharon Sognalian Senior Legal Recruiter. She tells me she received my resume, although I didn't remember applying and we proceeded to conduct a phone interview. She then schedules me to interview with one of her clients. On the day of she reschedules. On the day of the Rescheduled interview I take off work and she calls me 30 minutes before the interview and tells me that the interview is canceled because they have decided that they are no longer hiring for that position. I'm like, b#@$@#% I took off work for this interview and now you owe me money. She promises to consider me for other things and states that if this position ever opens again with this company that my resume is at the top of the list So she blames it on her client. Ok fine . . . maybe. But I never hear from her again. Now, I see the position is once again open and Matura is recruiting for it and yet I haven't received a call . . . not that I would take it any longer. Let me tell you a little story about my experience with this firm. A few years ago, when I was looking for a new position, one of my friends told me that her friend worked at a big recruiting agency called Matura Farrington. Without doing much research, I forwarded along my resume to Sharon and Melissa. I had a phone interview with them and was planning to go in to meet with them when one day, as I was browsing job openings, I noticed some very familiar language. They had been retained by my last law firm to fill my position. So, instead of asking the law firm for the job description, or coming up with it themselves, they decided to use my resume verbatim for that particular posting. ARE YOU EFFING KIDDING ME??? To give them the benefit of the doubt, I simply sent them an email asking them to please take it down. They said they would. A few months later, I see other job postings of their's where they continued to use my work. Hello, plagerism. Let's fast forward to today, March 19, 2012. I see another posting of their's for a simliar position and guess what?? They're still using my resume language verbatim on their posting! How shady and unprofessional is that?? I just sent them another email so we'll see what will happen, but wow. Absurd and ridiculous. Not to mention, you'd think a professional agency would apologize and be professional when I mentioned this to them. Nope. Not these gems. As a legal recruiter myself, I used Matura Farrington to help me fill temp slots and they always had great candidates. When I found myself unemployed for a spell, they contracted me out, and I had no complaints. I was compensated fairly, treated well and never made me feel like a second-class citizen. I have been seeking out employment for over 3 weeks and I have registered with Matura Farrington Staffing Services after 2 weeks of looking on my own. Immediately the next day I received a call regarding a short-term assignment for less than a week; however, I was not considered. I didn't received a follow-up regarding if I was considered; however, I am a very persistent person, so I contact them myself. Unfortunately, I was not considered for that position. But then, two days later I was called again and was selected to submit my resume to another client of theirs. I received two missed calls and an email notifying me I received the temporary assignment and was not told if it would lead to DIRECT hired, however, I am grateful to gain employment, even-though it will be temporary over a short time frame--- a couple weeks. I disagree with Michael J, Jennifer Y, Jane D, Supergreen Tea, and X.X. regarding a one star for this agency. They took care of my needs and placed me for I can gain a means of revenue. So, maybe other people should reconsider this company and go off your own perception of this FIRM. Also, they need to DEFINITELY know, based on every staffing company they showcase you solely on your resume; therefore, you have to make sure your RESUME speak to there clients needs and wants. For example, I can only suggest that those that RATED this firm horribly to; take a step out of their shoes and do some revisions and corrections to there RESUME. Seek out someone for assistance to look over it and as for constructive criticism regarding your resume. As an HR Manager with over 20 years in the legal industry I have worked with multiple agencies over the years, but have found that Matura has consistently met my needs. They are professional, efficient and responsive. The candidates they present are thoroughly tested with references checked. I was contacted in April about a position for one of their "clients". I was placed with the client beginning in May for a long term assignment through October. The client as well as Matura asked me to "make the commitment" without "interviewing elsewhere". I did make the commitment. I was supposed to have a month of training with the person I would be replacing while she was out on leave. I trained with her for one week when I guess they decided they wanted to "split up her position". So for week one I trained on one of her duties. Week two, the client brought in another "temp" so she was trained on the duty I was trained on during week one. Week two I was trained on their procedure of a second duty she did. Week two, day four, second temp called in sick and client decided they didn't want her back. Week three, I went back to training on first duty cause she wanted to make sure " I got it". Week four, there was no training because their employee was "working from home". I'm grateful for any training because sometimes, one will sit in a chair and have to "figure it out". However, the "client" had a "manager" who barely said good morning. I knew she didn't care for me, I don't know why, but I could tell. But, I didn't care because I still had to be professional and I was there to do a job. Which I did. Here we are almost three months later, I had a death in my family and took one day off. The "manager" took that opportunity to call Matura and tell them she didn't want me back because my "skill set wasn't up to par". Really? almost three months later? If I didn't measure up, shouldn't that have been displayed by me, week two, or definitely week three? I think I felt bothered by Matura because they recruited me. They found my resume and contacted me. I made a commitment and I felt like they didn't appreciate the commitment. They contacted me on the day I called out to say the client didn't want me back. I had just lost my family member to a violent death. Matura is telling me the client doesn't want me back because of my "skill set". I felt like they didn't even say anything to the client about me. Like did they say anything about why would they wait for almost three months to say my skill set didn't meet their expectations. In that three months, I handled what I was supposed to handle and did it with excellence. You know, temp agencies want to keep professional relationships open so they can get more business. I get it, but still. Am I wrong to feel like the client should've said something to them early on instead of three months later because the manager didn't like me personally? And, Matura didn't offer to try to place me anywhere else. It was just a they don't want you back. Even though Matura did offer condolences about my family member, they still didn't say, we'll do what we can to place you somewhere else. It was just a can you give us the clients keys and binder back as soon as you can? I will say this, Krista was the person who contacted me. She was the one who found my resume. I don't know how she found me, or where she got my resume from, but when she did contact me, she came across very professional, and very sweet. She handled herself with grace. When I did call her to tell her about a situation with the client, (which just happened to be the same day I found out about my family member, but earlier that day), Krista was open to hearing how I viewed the situation and did offer some coaching on how to deal with the "manager". Now some may say, well they should have a loyalty to the client. And, they should to a certain degree, but when someone makes a commitment to them to be placed with their client and the client takes it "personal", then the agency should still show gratitude to the employee and say, hey, let me see if I can place you somewhere else at least for the remainder of the time the employee gave to them. If I'm wrong to see it that way, please, tell me why. read more

You go in and fill out the obligatory paperwork, meet with a "recruiter" (most likely a kid out of college with a few years of experience) and they're the gate-keepers when it comes for them sending your resume to their clients. (DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH.) Secondly,IF a Matura Farringinton recruiter calls you about a position, they always say, "TEMP-TO-PERM." There is not true!! I know for a fact HR does not hire temp-to-perms. While you're busting your butt temping, HR is activefly recruiting for the position you're temping for because they DO NOT WANT TO PAY THE COMMISSION FEE they would be paid if hired. In this economy, I do not blame them. Third, and most important, after meeting with a recruiter, you will NEVER HEAR FROM THEM again. Period. I have worked with them multiple times. My experience with this agency has been that they are very pleasant, friendly, responsive and prompt. One of the things I have appreciated with Monica at Matura has been that she keeps the candidates updated even if there is no news. They tend to have positions with firms that have been nice and with which it has been good to work. My first contact with this firm I felt was misleading in that I was told the position was more substantive, but it turned out not to be when I interviewed. Let me preface with, I am not a family member (as a previous reviewer stated all positive reviewers must certainly be). I received a call from Justin at Matura Farrington, he found my resume online and felt I might be suitable for a direct hire position they were recruiting for. He was thorough in his explanation of the position, and asked me 20 minutes worth of questions about myself, what I was looking for in a job etc. He was prompt in his follow up to send me required testing materials and even went as far as to set up a Skype interview between him and myself avoid my having to drive to downtown L.A in traffic. Once I completed my testing I was notified the next day that the employer received my resume and testing scores and was interested in seeing me.The same day, I received a call from Karen Farrington who was beyond kind and detailed not only every bit of background she had on the position but also spent ample time giving me every interview tip she had and to ensure I was completely prepared to be successful in the interview. She made no over the top promises about the prospective employer, was honest and forthcoming and wished me luck. Not sure why all the bad reviews here... Terrific firm. Very by-the-book approach to HR / employment compliance, which I appreciate. The recruiters with whom I have dealt personally were consistently friendly, respectful, and courteous. When a project start date was delayed I received a phone call and an apology. This was unexpected and very considerate. Additionally, and perhaps most importantly: 1. Matura Farrington placed me at a big glossy firm that I would rank highly for reputation, professionalism, and free coffee; and 2. The hourly rate as at the top end of the scale for JD Doc Review (only $1 less than the the highest I've seen in Los Angeles). I told them the type of job I was looking for and they immediately got me two interviews with high profile firms in my field. Unfortunately for those companies I didn't get either job!
