I've parted ways with ACT-1 Entertainment Solutions for the third time now -- and in light of the circumstances of this latest exodus, I need to revise and update my testimonial. Let me first recount what Anna Browne Robinson told me last July regarding ACT-1's current status, because it has bearing on what followed. Basically, AppleOne acquired ACT-1 in a corporate merger just prior to the pandemic (which, incidentally, retroactively explains some of the problems I documented in my earliest testimonial). Then COVID happened and, unsurprisingly, everything went to hell. In the interim, ACT-1's basically been gutted and it's operations and accounts have be transferred to AppleOne's Glendale branch. Anna has inherited oversight and rebuilding of that account -- and therein lies the problem. As an outgoing client, it's my opinion that AppleOne erred here in assigning this particular manager to this particular account. Anna doesn't have an entertainment background and it's clear she's out of her depth and doesn't understand the industry. Worse, by her own admission, overseeing and rebuilding ACT-1's account is a secondary priority compared to her primary AppleOne work. She's unable and/or unwilling to put the time or energy into it. If anything, the impression I was left with is that Anna resents having this account foisted upon her and is deliberately doing the bare minimum in response. Anna was also unable to generate literally a single lead in the 6 months I tried working with her. Now, to be fair, the WGA/SAG Strikes last year disrupted the job market and ACT-1 got hammered. I'm NOT blind to that, or to the impossible situation she had to navigate. That said, I feel Anna could have done more to work around this or help me out. She refused to cross-market my resume for any non-entertainment roles and insisted her current clients only wanted ACT-1 veterans. She even had the temerity to ask if I'd just tried directly applying to entertainment jobs through their company websites (I very nearly hung up on her; in fact, this call was the last straw and precipitated my exit). Anna's professional behavior throughout all this was also just as frustrating. I stressed from the beginning of our collaboration that good communication and reliability were paramount given my previous experiences with AppleOne's Westwood branch (which I've covered in reviews on that page). Anna agreed...and then promptly did the exact opposite. I'm NOT exaggerating when I say it takes up to WEEKS to get her to respond to basic queries, voicemails, and messages. On at least one occasion, she stood me up on a conference call (one that took almost 2 weeks to set up) and ignored my emails trying to ascertain what happened or to reschedule -- at least until I made it clear she was forcing me to reevaluate my business relationship. THEN Anna got on the phone. On these occasions, Anna admitted she was either on vacation (without even bothering to notify clients she'd be out of the office and to make alternate arrangements) or she wasn't even bothering to check the ACT-1 email account on regular basis. And while Anna did ultimately did take responsibility for that conference call incident and admitted there was no excuse...she also never actually answered what had happened. By this point, it's now February and I've finally had enough. I had serious reservations about working with ACT-1 again after getting previously screwed over by Michelle Rossoff and Wanda Hallmark. But Anna seemed genuinely apologetic about my past experiences (and again the merger retroactively seemed to explain some of the problems last time). I was also desperate because of the Strikes and had to roll the dice. Well, just as I feared, I rolled snake eyes -- AGAIN. It doesn't matter that 4 years have passed, that the old guard has changed, or that there's been upheaval and reorganization. Literally NOTHING else has changed with ACT-1 Entertainment Solutions; the agency remains completely and utterly incapable of fulfilling the basic services it professes to advertise. It's absolutely INSANE; I genuinely don't understand HOW they're still in business or why AppleOne is tolerating this. So, in conclusion, I once more cannot recommend working with ACT-1, nor would I advise job seekers to work with Anna Browne Robinson (at least if you're approaching her for entertainment work; to be fair, I can't speak to her non-entertainment work). To AppleOne Management, here's my closing advice: I think it would be beneficial to all parties -- you, ACT-1, Anna, future clients, etc. -- if custodianship of the ACT-1 account and its rebuilding was to be reassigned to a different manager. It needs to be overseen by someone who actually HAS an entertainment background and knows the industry. It needs someone who can and will put the time and effort into rebuilding it, and who's going to make your clients feel valued and welcomed and not treat them like unwanted headcounts. read more

I have to be completely honest and say I truly love this staffing agency. You don't understand how agitating it can be to work in the entertainment industry and to have to start at the bottom constantly. With Act One, I've always had such a wonderful experience. Not only do they help you to find a job, but they also help you spruce up your resume so that wherever you end up sending it, it's legitimate to your employment needs. So many staffing agencies in this industry are very hard to get into and are so specific, but Act One is a great place to come as you are and work your way up and find direction. I can't tell you how fast I've gotten interviews and gotten a temp job, and they make sure you're happy there, that you're getting paid what you want, that the hours/environment are suited to your needs. Being an occasional independent contractor, I've been so thankful to find jobs where I have parking, adequate pay, and an opportunity for permanence and growth. Seth was my first agent and he's left since, and now Ashley has been my little angel always helping me with everything. Wanda and Wendy are also wonderful, everyone is a great team and they're so empathetic and great with communicating. In all honesty, I probably won't go to any other agency because I'm very attached to them. They're just so great. I didn't want to leave a review for a long time because I don't like sharing them, but that's pretty selfish of me and there are probably a lot of people out there that need them. ACT 1 Entertainment is the best agency to work with, hands-down! This branch of ACT-1 is not only unique to working with accounts within the entertainment industry, yet they are unique in their approach to how they work with people. I've been working with Ashley for about one or two months now. When I met her, she was full of positive energy, which has been a constant in our interaction. She is very professional, while being approachable and works hard to ensure she gets your hired. She is very connected with her accounts. Thus, she provides a lot of insight, which is imperative when matching candidates with the perfect client. Ashley has given me confidence and has been very supportive of me throughout the process of my job search. She is a doll and has an inner light that is magnanimous. Ashley and her supervisor, Leah made me feel like family. When I left the office on the first day, I knew that I had a great team going to bat for me. A lot of agencies will require you to call them constantly for viable job opportunities. However, you will only hear from them once or twice, then after a month or two, you don't hear back from them at all. ACT-1 Entertainment stands a world a head of their counterparts. They are very proactive and work diligently to get you in front of an employer and working right away. That vote of confidence has given me more drive to go into my new job position and do exceedingly and beyond in representation of ACT-1 Entertainment Branch! This place is a joke. Spent at least two hours inputting all my information and filling out their online application, watching safety videos, and signing a dozen forms. I then called them multiple times to see if they could tell me anything about my status or at least get anyone on the phone. I left messages. They never answered the phone, so this could happen to anyone and everyone. Don't go through this process and waste your time. There must be something really wrong with these reviews because what I experienced was "absolute nothing". For weeks I was patient and Sarah Good will say "nothing yet"...until I stopped calling. Do you think that I received one single email from them regarding my status? They suppose to cover entertaintment and studio business..So, I called last week, Sarah gave me some reason that she worked mostly with IT and enginiers....what that had to do with me?! Her business card states and I quote Account Executive Media & Entertainment ..and you are telling me who wants to work anything on the set or in the studio office with pretty strong resume for media and entertainment it is not enough? The other office was the one in Cahuenga. Similar situation. I am wondering how effective these agencies really are, because from what I've seen they don't do nothing. I've had more opportunities and worked in great creative areas because of their ability to see through what's only on the resume and to see how a person will interact in the department they're sending them to. I would give this place 0 stars! This is by far the worst staffing agency. Also, MICHELLE ROSOFF is the WORST! She is very rude and good for nothing. She completed wasted my time, was very rude and arrogant during my interview/meeting with her and blatantly implied that I was not competent enough for "her clients", but still took personal confidential information of mine and said, "we will find you something." She called my references and was very rude to them. My references called me after receiving a call from her and told me that she was really rude and rubbed them the wrong way. After that, NOTHING. She didn't submit me for any jobs or set me up with any interviews! Never heard from her or the agency ever again. I would send emails trying to follow up with her, but she would just give me the run around. If you try this place out, which I highly suggest you don't, avoid Michelle Rosoff and ask for a different representative. read more

I told him that I could really only do day to day jobs due to on my other job's schedule. I've been using Act-1 for about a few months and have already been offered about 7 jobs. I did have to turn a few down because of scheduling conflicts, but Seth keeps calling me with temp offers.
