Dr Alex shared that Maui Braces operates with community and is a family oriented business. Dr Alex was contrite, he stated that " we dropped the ball and we have to make it right," Dr. Alex spoke very highly of his staff's professionalism, character, moral and ethical responsibility which spoke volumes to me. He allowed me to share my thoughts, feelings and the emotional difficulties I experienced during my visit., Not minimizing anything I shared with him. Dr Alex requested that I return to the office in which I will be fitted with another retainer and refunded the cost of the services. I agreed to return. I was able to share with Dr. Alex that I worked in the Health Care Profession for 25 years dealing with people from all walks of life and cultures, it was very helpful important that our agency required employees mandatory cultural competency courses, this opened the door for educational understanding regarding all cultures which enables individuals to work more effectively with diverse groups by fostering mutual respect, reducing miscommunication, and bias. It was a very powerful tool for me as a health care professional and I had a better understanding in dealing with all cultures. I was grateful that Dr. Alex was opened minded and allowed me share openly. He listened and that speaks volumes to his character and I appreciate that. I truly want to be fair in regards to moving forward in everyway, so when I return to get my new retainer I will not accept the return of payment, I just want a well fitting retainer.

This happened quite a while ago but it has a lasting impact on my life and I have gone back and…read moreforth about sharing it. When I had my braces with Conmy he told me that I was missing an adult tooth on the bottom right side and that in order for him to continue treatment I would need it removed. My mom told him we would rather just have the braces removed and discontinue treatment but instead he then said he wouldn't remove my braces until this was done. My dentist even advised against removing my "baby" tooth as it was perfectly fine and healthy and could last for years to come if not the rest of my life. However, the decision was made by Conmy to have it removed. Conmy them said I would need to go to an oral surgeon to have a screw placed to try and pull my remaining molars forward into the space where my tooth had been. This was traumatizing to say the least as it was extremely painful and failed TWICE. I had a screw loose and moving around in my jaw bone cutting into my right cheek and causing me pain for absolutely no reason because this whole "treatment", or what I would call experiment, didn't work. I now have had a hole in my mouth for almost a decade and due to this my teeth have shifted significantly, despite wearing my retainers religiously, and I will need braces or Invisalign again in my 20s. I am personally impacted by this decision for the rest of my life both financially in having to pay for another round of orthodontic treatment and the several thousand dollar titanium implant I will have to have placed in my jaw as well as physically by the pain of this experience which has continued to this day. I would love to note that a friend of mine went to Conmy around the same exact time as me and had the same issue but on the bottom left side of her mouth and guess what? Conmy didn't remove her tooth. I've been wondering for years if he just decided to use me as some guinea pig without my consent...I guess I'll never know. But having Conmy as my orthodontist was one of the worst experiences of my entire life and my experience matters so here I am sharing it. I hope this will help at least one person consider asking more questions and standing up for yourself. I was only 15 at the time, I wish I had used my voice and said no...but I trusted that he knew what was best for me. Thanks for reading this, I appreciate it.

JUST AN FYI FOR DENTAL PATIENTS…read more.. Re: Hawaii Family Dental at Kaahumanu Center... Last month our regular dentist in Kihei put a temporary filling in my husband's front, lower tooth that was bothering him and said it needed to be extracted. It would need to be done surgically because of the condition of the tooth and the fact it was impacted, so they set up a referral appointment for Dec. 19th at Hawaii Family Dental at Kaahumanu Center. They gave us an estimate of a little over $300 for the procedure. We live on limited Social Security income, so started saving for the appointment. Last week the filling came out and the tooth broke off. There wasn't much pain except for the sharp edge which was cutting the inside of my husband's lip and tongue. We called the Kaahumanu office and they nicely arranged for the extraction to be done on Oct. 10th. When we arrived, the nice ladies in front collected $150 because we told her we didn't have the full $325 or so needed, took my debit card info and agreed to run it on Oct. 29th for the balance owing. After a bit of a wait, the nurse came into the examination room to take 2 X-rays, and Terry told her he would need Nitrous due to the fact he had gone through a dental surgery many years ago where the doctor crushed a molar while extracting it and, as a result, Terry is a "white knuckle" patient. She informed him that would be an additional $158, due and payable prior to surgery. Terry told her we are having to save up for the procedure as is, and couldn't come up with that much that day. Since we couldn't pay the $158 that day, Terry asked that the doctor just grind down the edge that was cutting his lip and tongue, as we had originally requested for that day, until the extraction appointment, so he would be okay until the scheduled appointment Dec. 19th. The doctor walked into the room, struck a rather comical pose and very snottily informed him, "I am a SURGEON and I don't do that!" So we left... with the broken tooth still gouging Terry's mouth inside the lip. We asked them to apply the $150 already paid towards the original appointment for Dec. 19th, then went home and used our Dremel ourselves to grind the sharp edge.................. since we AREN'T surgeons and we DO what is needed to relieve pain and damage! On Oct. 13th I called their billing dept and complained. I also requested the $150 we prepaid be refunded since Dr. Sahdev didn't do anything. After a bit of a delay the woman came back and informed us they could only refund twenty some odd dollars since the doctor DID "consult" with the patient. I informed her that was unacceptable. She said she would have her supervisor call me back. I still had not received the promised callback by the 15th, so called once again, after discovering through my online banking app that the charge had posted to my account on Oct. 14th, in full ($150). Once again, I was told a supervisor would call me back. Here it is, Oct. 16th. My husband still has a tooth that needs to come out. We've filed the sharp edges ourselves so he's not in pain. We are out $150 for nothing and their billing department supervisor STILL has not seen fit to return my call. Would we recommend this practice to anyone else? Absolutely NOT!

The anchor tooth, was bad and should have not been used, and filled or pulled before hand. The whole bridge and a new front tooth crown had to be redone within 2 months. They redid it and had to use the new.,crowned tooth as the anchor tooth. Then they told me insurance would not pay for it. However, the insurance company said they did, and gave me the billing info. They said the bridge was not done correctly. Then their billing office charged me for a whole new bridge, front teeth, and would not talk to the insuran,e company, or give them their dental notes. I had to file a comp!ain't with the state and that's hard. Dr.Hello would not correct it and just said she does t do the billing. the same time she did a partial that another dentist looked at and said it was terrible partial. The insurance doesn't pay for things twice Hawaii Family Dental keeps trying g to make MT pay for the bridge at$3100. The amount kept changing, and the partial was paid for at $900. Only they can redo it. The billing office said the insurance co. doesn't pay for porcelin bridges, but they do,and it's in their coverage I was sent. Now Hawaii Family Dental will not get back to an advocate or send them their billing details. Now one of the teeth under the porcelin bridge has decayed under and through the bridge acter only 14 months. Another dentist said it was not sealed correctly and go back to them, but Dr. Mello won't guarantee her work. This is serious since I need hip surgery and I need a dental c!earance for surgery and can't get one because of the infection under the bridge.
