My lovely friend invited me to the Maui Pops Christmas show and I thoroughly enjoyed it, with a 50+ piece orchestra (mostly local musicians on island) led by conductor extraordinaire James Durham, and the beautiful and talented Scarlett Strallen on vocals. The program was full of festive favourites, instrumentals, rock n pop, an Austrian march to clap along with, and traditional carols too, including Mele Kalikimaka. Held at the MACC, it was a full house and the audience was full of festive cheer.
We decided to arrive early and eat lunch being served by an Indian chef who makes mouthwatering meals. We both chose the vegetarian curry, full of chickpeas and locally grown pumpkin, very delicious. A little tipple of Sauternes and tonic was the perfect pairing, and there were plenty of choices at the bar, including special cocktails created for the event.
We were lucky enough to obtain invites to the after party and met the wonderful Scarlett and James so we could congratulate them on their performance. Lovely people creating so much joy for everyone who attended. Bravo! Many thanks to everyone involved in making Maui Pops such a success from the orchestra to the board, the volunteers to the lighting specialists, the audience to the programme printers. read more
