First off, let me just start by saying we went up to Pittsburgh to have a nice relaxing weekend. We…read morestayed in the Evergreen cabin, which we have stayed several times in the past and had a great experience. The Friday night that we arrived there a bad storm came through and wiped the power out which we lost heat and of course, the electricity around 11 PM to roughly 5:30 am which made for a very cold night with no extra blankets. A giant tree fell on top of our cabin, I have to say it was very frightening, and my husband, nor myself got any sleep that night, not knowing if we were safe in that cabin. In the morning I proceeded to call the front desk and make them aware of the tree that had fallen and asked if they could send someone over to check out the structure of the cabin. I also stated that I felt we should receive some compensation because we basically lost a night due to the fear of what had happened to the cabin not to mention it was freezing cold.. They did state they would give me $100 back which I think was not acceptable considering we paid 300 a night. I waited approximately two hours and a young man came looked up at the cabin and basically told us he knew nothing about structure and trees, but he would try to find someone to look at it. Two hours later someone from a tree service pulled up in the road about 100 yards away from the cabin parked for about 20 seconds and drove away. We never heard from front desk again to let us know if the structure was safe and they left the tree on the cabin all day and the following night. Needless to say, it was not relaxing in any way shape or form and they obviously didn't care how we felt about the situation. I will say they did offer us to move to a cabin across the way but at that point if I had to pack everything up and move, I was going home. We specifically picked Evergreen because it's the cabin we had been staying in for years. They are just lucky that we were not injured because things could have been way worse for Tall Timbers. Let me add there was an eight foot overhang on the metal roof that could have let go at any moment... had to be cautious to stay away from the edge of the building!!!

This was supposed to be a short stop over on our way to Quebec city. Instead, I'm already trying to…read morethink of when I can come back. The place is beautiful, the photos do not do the rooms justice, and the breakfast is simply phenomenal. The hosts were really nice and stayed up to accommodate us driving in late. The rooms are well appointed, the bathrooms nice and clean. The grounds of the place is beautiful, lots of wildflowers, and next to a lake. Did I mention the three-course breakfast? Local jams with turkey pate, waffles with lots of wonderful fruits, freshly squeezed orange juice, and a crème brûlée grapefruit. I'm sad I didn't get to spend as much time here this time, but definitely planning to come back for a longer stay next time.

Manoir De La Rue Merry is the very best kind of BnB. This is like staying in a high end hotel where…read morethere are only 4 rooms and they are cozy and beautiful and the owners are kind and thoughtful and professional and incredible cooks who take pride in local product. The location is ideal for Magog, you're right by the cute bridge by the cute park and beach and the awesome local brew pub is a few steps away and so is the Rue Principale, ie; main street, with other cute restaurants and shops. The bed was super comfortable, the sheets and pillows were so deeply cosy, the room had it's own clean, nice little bathroom. There is a fireplace downstairs in a common room that connects to a whole hallway of maps and guidebooks for the region. The dining room is full of light and set with lovely cutlery, white table cloths, lace curtains, so calm and sunny and lovely. The owner will serve you coffee and juice in a champagne glass and then a 4 course beautiful breakfast which by the way, she made. She's happy to tell you about the different jams and preserves, the local cheeses and meats she's using, etc. She's calm and sweet and generally makes you feel at home, without that awkwardness... Because let's be real, I'm not always a fan of the bed and breakfast, sometimes this can be weird with weird forced interactions with strangers and mediocre food made by non-food professionals. The Merry Manor is the opposite, it's the best, so friendly and intimate and awesome, and I'll be back for sure.

The top half of the mountain was all just a tiny powder on top of ice . The ice gets shaved throughout the day to build up the powder that then gets slapped into something akin to moguls throughout the slopes. Talking to people on the lifts made it very clear that the focus of skiing here is on the glades and not the groomers. Unfortunately my lack of experience made it rather tough to enjoy that. It also wasn't until midday on our second day that we finally discovered some more beginner friendly glades. We ended up being able to enjoy the moons and the bushwacker path. The layout of the lodge is also strange. It feels cramped and crowded even though there werent too many people there. All the lifts feel far too slow as well. A wind cover at the least would be highly appreciated considering how long the ride up is. The misc Ramen truck is a highlight. Delicious lunch option. Truely a gift. Would recommend.

Overall, the terrain was a little more advanced but had a few short trails for beginners. Several long blue runs and a few groomed black runs in addition to many more difficult mogul black runs. Lots of glades areas if that is your cup of tea. The resort was big enough that you had plenty to explore for a few days and also if you went with a group it wasn't so huge that it was impossible to meet up or find friends if you took an accidental detour. We opted for a package and it was reasonable. We chose to stay at the golf cottages which were perfect for our group, and could get around the resort with their shuttle system. There was a movie theater, bowling alley, climbing wall, mini golf as well as general store, bars and restaurants on site. If you buy a package some of the activities might be included in your price. If you want to eat off site there are a few restaurants about 15 minutes away. It was nice that they had so many things to do because this resort is in a pretty remote area and there isn't a ton around in the near vicinity.
