Let's face it, normally $75 does not go a long way for a place to stay. Sure, you can get a musty Days Inn with questionably clean bedding... or you can get an adorable cabin with a rolling river and the luscious outdoors at your fingertips... it's your choice, really. Pine Crest kinda blew my mind out of my face with its adorableness, pet friendly attitude (only $5 a night extra!), supreme customer service (I was dumb and turned my heater off at 11pm at night, 5mns later the owner fixed it with a SMILE!) and affordability. Small cabins are $75 a night (summer only) and come with a double bed in a petite room. Larger cabins are open year round for $95 a night with kitchenettes and more space. However, there's a picnic table, grill, a pool, wifi and cable with all cabins. Plus, there is a river to swim in right next to them! My room was clean, comfortable and fantastic. I ran into a woman who said she's been coming here for years and looks forward to it every year. I can see why. I'm already excited about coming back in the winter!

This is a quaint little group of cabins that are clean and lovely. We found this location by accident when were looking to spend some time at the Burke Ski Lodge and will definitely be going back on purpose for a longer stay. They have many size cabins and they have all amenities needed for a long stay with your family or a romantic getaway.

Before dinner, we walked down to Caspian lake with a cocktail from the beer garden and enjoyed the evening breeze. We ate dinner on a beautiful porch that had a prime view of the lake. Our dinner was excellent and extremely well-priced. They had vegetarian options for several dishes, which was perfect for my friend. If you are staying in the area, this local gem is definitely worth visiting! I would recommend making a reservation - You can email, call or text them the day of to confirm a spot! There isn't a ton of phone service in that part of Vermont, so email might be your best bet!

I know it was October, the end of the season. but I still expected the cabin to be clean. The bathroom mirror was a mess and the baseboard had a season's worth of hair and dust from other guests. There were unwashed coffee cups and a big smear on the picture window. It was disappointin. Breakfasts were tolerable, melon the best part. Under the prior ownership, the lodge cooked custom breakfasts with the best muffins ever (fond memories of French puff and raspberry muffins), not a lukewarm buffet. We had dinner for 6 there one night and it was a debacle. Service could not have been worse. One fellow ordered an appetizer as his main course and it was dellivered to the center of the table for people to share. Plates came out at random so some people ate while others waited. One friend and I waited more than a hour while everyone else finished their dinners. We finally got our two dinners as one of our party finished his dessert. The timing was the worst I've ever experienced. The waitress was incompetent and had to be reminded to bring anything we needed. The dining experience was so wretched that I don't even remember the food. The cold lack of hospitality, the state of our cabin, and the at best mediocrity of our dining has led us to find another place to stay when we visit. We can do better and pay less.

The fact that the story was true and that this famous singing family settled in Stowe, VT because it reminded them of their homeland, well, it's been a long-time dream of mine to visit the Von Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe and feel the connection in person. And so I did... in July 2025, some SIXTY years after seeing the Sound of Music. We actually didn't stay here, which seems kind of odd considering what a fan I am. Now that I know how much there is to do in Stowe... and at the lodge itself, perhaps if we come back with plans to stay longer, I would stay here. The Von Trapp Family Lodge has so much to offer a person... whether one stays here or not. These are some of the activities: 1. Hiking 2. Mountain biking 3. Skiing / Cross-country skiing 4. Horse-drawn carriage rides 5. Sleigh Rides 6. Disc golf 7. Yoga / Massage 8. Bicycle rentals 9. Tennis 10. Swimming 11. Rock Climbing Wall 12. Indoor arts / crafts / culinary classes 13. Wine and/or beer tastings 14. Choice of 4 restaurants We thoroughly enjoyed walking around the lodge and grounds and learning more about the family and the history behind the lodge. Since this (ironically) my 1700th review, it's fitting that such a special place falls on a noteworthy review number.

His warm demeanor + decades at United definitely make him a good fit to welcome all of VTFL's guests. We had a ton of questions about this, that and a third thing and he answered all of them with Trappist poise and grace. I recommend immediate promotion ahead of peers. [Shoutout to our server Michelle too!] BILL at Cows: Bill was a solid tour guide - kept the group engaged and safe, clearly knows the cows like the back of his hand. Ditto the history and lore of the grazing areas and the Highland program in general. You want a friendly, knowledgeable guy for this role and he fits the bill. (Hehe.) Also recommend immediate promotion ahead of peers.
