If you want the very best in wedding photography, look no further. We were recommended to Maurice by my now husband's mom, who lives in Georgia, who's friend also in Georgia has a daughter who used to life in SF (still following?), the daughter moved in NY. She flew Maurice to NY to do her photos. No regrets. Okay, so that was the most oddly routed recommendation path I've received for any of my wedding vendors. Back to my experience. We must have interviewed at least five photographers, and reviewed at least ten; both from recommendations of our wedding coordinator, wedding venue, and others. Why did I want to interview Maurice? I liked his edgy style. He wasn't a light & fluffy photographer. His photo style is artistic, emotional, perfect timed, and focused. His photos look like they belong in magazines. His advertising background gives him the professionalism of both capturing people and surroundings. Why did I want to hire Maurice? Maurice graciously met with us in his Alameda studio, not too far from the BART. He had some iTunes playing from his sound system, comfy lounge chairs, and even freshly baked macaroons from a local baker. His personality was awesome. He asked all the right questions. He had no problem with us asking 500 questions. He just seemed like he knew what's up. How was the pre-wedding experience? Incredible. His wife Nina is an organizational guru. My coordinator is also like this. I am also like this. The coordinator and Maurice/Nina never worked together before, but she told me multiple times, she loved the duo. They'd send ideas, worksheets, timelines, etc. They're flexible and accommodating. They're nuts & bolts but very detailed. They track everything you give them. They listen to you. You feel comfortable knowing that they're on top of everything you're telling them. They don't go days leaving you hanging if you email them, either. How was the wedding experience? Maurice is a machine. He came onsite about noon and didn't leave until after the wedding was over at 10pm. You'd see him on ladders, taking shots from afar, from near, everywhere. He loved it. His assistant (who's also a professional photographer) was great. They even dressed in the wedding theme colors. They were snapping all day and all night. I had to convince him to go eat dinner. I don't know how the guys were so friendly and so on-point for so many hours. Everyone commented how amazing they are. He was so FUN to work with. He didn't exhaust you and you could tell he is so passionate for what he does and you're his main objective. How was the post-wedding experience? Also awesome. In just a few days he made a blog of his favorite photos. In just a few weeks, he had the whole collection online to view. In just a few weeks after that, he had proofs of albums to review. We made a few changes. He's so creative. He even remembers design elements from our wedding to incorporate in the album. For example, my husband made custom cornhole boards and Maurice remembered the design. We tracked down the Esty seller who gave us an image of the decal which Maurice put on the back of the photo album. A few weeks after finalizing, our photo album arrived, as a high-quality book, in an eloquent box, accompanied by a thank you card. Anything else? Maurice also submitted our photos for magazines. I debated over writing this review. Our wedding was this past Saturday, and Maurice cancelled on us less than three weeks from our wedding. There is no doubt that Maurice takes beautiful pictures. His assistant, Nina, is also very friendly and responsive. Unfortunately, after signing the contract and paying the amount in full (and cash), he reneged on his contract. His reason? Nina accidentally booked us for October 2011, not October 2010. This was suspicious, as we received several emails from Nina with additional details about our upcoming wedding a few weeks away. I've had nothing but great experiences with Nina (we actually first reached out to them over a year and a half ago when we started planning, then again a few months ago when we finally decided to set a date). I don't believe that there was a mix up in dates. Since we had a smaller ceremony/reception and paid in full, Maurice was able to give us a considerable discount on his package. I fully believe that another bigger, pricier client came along and was too good for Maurice to pass up. I don't doubt Maurice's talent. However, I am most disappointed that having a signed agreement and paying the total cost up front wasn't enough to confirm him for our wedding. It's either poor organization or poor business ethic, and that is the last thing that any bride would want to worry about. I am giving Maurice two stars because he quickly refunded our money and offered a complimentary session. Maybe in time I'll feel differently, but I think I'd just be scowling in any pictures he shot of me! In the end, we fortunately found a FANTASTIC photographer (Charles Le Photography), and I truly think this cancellation was a blessing in disguise. read more

If I could, i would give Maurice 6 stars :) as a hobbyist photographer, my (now wife, then) Fiancé and I started looking around at photographers all around the bay to find the perfect person to help us capture what we amount to "our memories" of our wedding. we looked at A LOT of photographers, and Maurice's website/photos really captured our attention - he has an AMAZING eye for interesting/gorgeous angles. we met with Maurice, and we KNEW he was the guy for our wedding - we had a DIY wedding with a lot of help from our friends, and we wanted someone that would feel comfortable in a burningman style wedding. communication with Maurice - before and after the wedding - was awesome - Nina gave us good guidelines as to what is required from us photography wise, and that really helped us plan our day accordingly. We got married last October 2011 in San Francisco and chose our photographer very carefully. We hired Maurice not only because of his amazing photography talents, but because he actually cared and made a huge effort to tell our story and didn't just want to take a photo for the sake of photography. Maurice (and Nina) took their time to get to know us so that they could convey our lives with each other through his photos. Needless to say, we had a blast with Maurice during both our engagement session (full SF city bus tour) and on our big day at the InterContinental Hotel! Maurice was so easy to work with and was so fluid with each moment in all the unique surroundings and atmospheres that we encountered. He was ultra patient with us and our 550+ guest list as well...and I can't say the same for most photographers to be able to cover that size of a group so smoothly. When we saw the final product, we were blown away and his photos and ultra high quality "storybook" took us right back to our wedding day! Not much I can add to other comments except repeat what they've already said. Maurice was a bad-ass. He made our wedding day very special and he was great to work with. He did a custom and personal job for our very personal wedding and if you manage to snag him for yourself you're in for a treat. One of the greatest things he did at the wedding which I didn't know about was set up a slide-show of photos he had taken that day on his laptop for everyone to see. I found out about it when my uber-manly friend from Seattle came over to me later on in the night and said 'Oh my god, your photos are amazing, this guy is awesome.' This review is well overdue. My wife and I got married less than a year ago and I wasn't sure which photographer to go with. I'm myself in the production and photography business and can tell when I see good talent. Maurice's work speaks for itself, its modern, classy, passionate and timeless. But that's not all that makes him and his services a 5 star experience. When you first start working with Maurice and Nina you automatically feel good. You know you're in good hands. Maurice has a laid back, friendly, kind and professional demeanor. Nina, well you just feel good talking to her, she is very kind and sweet. So our initial meeting went very well. What I was pleasantly surprised about on our wedding day, was how professional Maurice really is, from the way he interacts with the guests to the ideas and creativity he uses to get the best possible pictures and moments. He offers clear direction and made me feel like I was doing everything right. After seeing some of the photos (on his camera screen) I am amazed! This guy is a joke! Got a quote for upcoming wedding and it was through the roof. Portfolio shows complete over production which I am not a fan of. If you are interested in a fantasy version of your wedding, this guy is the one for you but I have experience in photography and I absolutely loathe this style of "photography." Anyone with Abobe Photoshop access can pull this shit off. My cousin got a quote for my wedding and we LAUGHED at how expensive it was. This guy thinks he is the shit but honestly, he is in a common league of wedding photograghers who think they are bigger and better than they really are.
