My daughter had a nail in her tire. I grabbed the car from her and gave her my truck. I called Mavis tire in Catskill and asked if they could get me in to get the nail out and take the spare off. It was 7:30pm in the middle of the week. The gentleman on the phone said "no problem." I showed up, someone grabbed the tire from the trunk, another gentleman put the car on the lift and within 15 minutes I was on my way. The Mavis team was fast and professional. Consistently terrible service. James tries to make it right but mismanagement of time and careless mechanics milking the job make it impossible. 2 hours into my service reparations free oil change, I watched the mechanic check the dipstick 14 times. No, I'm not kidding- fourteen. This was in between walking around in circles and disappearing like magic for several minutes at a time. When he saw me through the window watching him, he decided to add some more coolant and try to figure out how to close the hood for 45 seconds. I normally do my own work so I know my way around a car. I've worked on or with but not limited to alternators, brake lines, and fly wheels, which is good knowledge to have for anybody that doesn't want to get raped by the dishonest. My machinist experience is an attribute here, but being recently disabled my back can't handle it. It's a long running joke in Greene County how horrible the service is at Mavis- I guess the jokes on me because I gave them seven opportunities to fix two of my cars that consistently have more problems than they did before I brought them in. I'm trying Wiley's. The customer service waiting room in Wiley's might be dirty but it's better to see honest dirt in front of your face then get ambushed by the dirt at Mavis which can lead to dangerous conditions for your car AND your wallet. read more

Not enough mechanics (sorry, you're not a "technician" changing tires) or retention of the few they have to keep up with the workload. Making an appointment on line is useless, since they work on vehicles as they come in. I've spent $1,900 on 8 tires in the past two weeks and been back with each car at least twice to get the wheels rebalanced (14 weights on one wheel, 7, 6 and 7 on the other 3). Each rebalancing took at least 2 hours. I'll drive to a dealer and pay the extra $ in the future. You get what you pay for here. read more

I moved to Hudson Valley last year so I don't "have a mechanic". You know how nerve-wracking that can be -- and often big chains don't provide the best customer service. Not Mavis. Mavis is affordable, friendly, and this location is super convenient. I've never felt pressured to get work I didn't need, nor have I been unsatisfied with the work (and wait time) ever. I had 4 tires replaced and got a wheel alignment. I made an appointment and when I dropped off the car I was told it will be ready in an hour to an hour and a half, and that there was no car in front of me. To be expected for sure. It took 3.5 hours. I was specifically told by the guy checking me in that tires take 15 min ea. and the alignment will be another 30 min, why lie? I had left for an hour and came back and waited in the waiting room the remainder of the time, I would not have come back if I had known, especially with a child wreaking havoc in the "child" area. When I got my car back it smelt like an ashtray of cigarettes. $1,000 is a lot of money to spend to get half a$$ service, with no explanation or apology for the misinformed timeframe. Mostly I think the dudes were to busy eating and chilling with each other to finish a job without distractions, you can see them clearly from the waiting area through glass walls, and my car sat without anyone even walking past it for 45 minutes. They also were letting it sit there for a while when it "seemed" finished so I asked is it done and "Oh yah haha I forgot, I'll pull it out" was the response. Come on, I hate having to coach workers through their responsibilities. Grateful to have tires changed, the wheel alignment is worse and pulls my car hard to the right. I just wanted to take a minute to say thank you so very much to the Manager Mike of Mavis Discount Tire located at 7 Central Avenue Catskill, New York along with another young man and lady, which are two of the mechanics the work there. My car broke down on a dangerous section of I-87 on Friday evening 17 SEP 2021. The vehicle was towed to that particular Mavis. It was late at night and I had to take taxi to the Albany International Airport to get a rental vehicle. During the journey I found out that my mother passed away along with other things. It was a very difficult time in the staff of Mavis were able to help me and go above and beyond with the situation with my vehicle. I'm very thankful. One team one fight as we say in the Army! I had a front left tire replaced in September 2020 , today I went to have it replaced because a bubble developed on the same new tire. They said they wasn't responsible even if it is a manufacturer defect. I ordered the tire yesterday and it was sent to the wrong location even after I asked if they were sending it to the right location. The worker was rude and I called corporate twice and still the person in charge was rude and said corporate gave me incorrect information. I waited hours for a simple tire change even though there were open bays available. When the car was removed from the lot the worker went around the block and was definitely going faster than the 25 speed light camera limit and then he double parks it in a busy street. I will never go to that location again. Corporate said they would give me a discount if the tire couldn't be repaired and I paid more than the original quote of 118.00 for everything. My opinion, Catskill Mavis is THE worst place to go for tires. Based on my experience, they couldn't care less whether you buy tires from them or not, and they don't seem to care how long you are waiting. Why ask people to make appointments for service and then not honor them. And, I don't mean that you only have to wait a little bit, I'm talking HOURS past your appointment before they even take you in. Oh, I'm sorry. The guy behind the desk told me that they don't have appointments, they have reservations. Huh? I don't know how many people just walked out without buying anything, but it was at least four. I understand people have bad days, but I've had almost identical experiences several different occasions. Sorry Mavis but you have definitely lost my business and good will. I live in New York City but get my car inspected at the Catskill Mavis because it's so easy and pleasant (and less expensive than NYC inspection). The shop is sparkly clean, pricing is super reasonable and I've always been treated with honesty and respect. At my last visit, I made an appointment online Sunday night for a Tuesday inspection. Dan, the manager, actually called me Monday morning to let me know he could fit me in early if I wanted. When I brought the car in and wanted coffee, Ethan, the tech, drove me across the street to Dunkin to pick some up so I wouldn't have to walk. I needed the car back right away as I had a full schedule that day, and they got the inspection done for me in under an hour so I could be on my way. I think the place has a good selection of tires on hand but the concept of appointments there is a joke and the information that the call center gives you is very different from what you experience at the place. I had a bulge on my front tire which my husband saw right before my son and I were heading out to Windham to ski. Needless to say it was a bummer to deal with a tire instead of skiing. To minimize the impact I made an 8:00 AM appointment with Mavis place (there are really only two options in the entire Catskills - Mavis and Wallmart and I am not a big fan of Wallmart, so I went with Mavis). On the phone they told me that since I have an appointment I'd be out of there within 30 minutes. My son had a ski lesson at 10:00 AM booked. I was running 10 minutes late and called what I thought was the office. They said not a problem come over. It was a 35 minute drive for me from Windham where we stayed. When I got to the office they told me that there were 5 other people with 8 AM appointments before me and I were going to be lucky to get out of there before 10:00 AM. I had to leave. Their manager Dave called me later asking if I wanted to give the place another try and that he was going to make sure I am being taken as fast as possible. I told him that I would come at 4:00 PM. I came at 3:50 PM. They did the paperwork and I went with a friend to a nearby Dunkin Donuts to wait (my friend has an asthma). The manager said he'd call me when I was done. At 5:10 my friend needed to go. The car was still in the parking lot. It was taken shortly after that and I was done at 5:40 PM. I still do not understand what kind of personal attention to the matter Dave exhibited. I was charged the full price of the tire and the balancing... I think the total cost and price was actually $10 more than what I was originally quoted. That's not a big deal. I just do not understand why bother making appointments when it's first come - first serve anyway. I also was really annoyed with the manager over-promising. I should have gone to Wallmart I guess. On the drive back the tire pressure indicator went on. My husband will deal with it tomorrow. read more

I have never had a problem at this or any of the other Mavis stores in the area. I prefer this one because they are a little quicker than the others in hudson, kingston, Rhinebeck and Poughkeepsie. But I am one customer who has never had any problems. I see customers walk through the door with pre conceived notions that this trip to get their tires changed or car inspection is going to be a bad experience. Well guess what? It usually is for these folks because they have convinced themselves it will be. And they are usually the ones who review. While I was there the other day, John Hess was trying to help an extremely rude, disrespectful, and mean customer. This customer was demanding unreasonable prices on commercial tires, and John tried to show him all the coupons, rebates, and deals he could offer to this man. This customer proceed to verbally abuse and personally berate this manager. John maintained a level of professionalism that I have never seen. This location has my business as a I new to the area based on how despite the actions of this customer, the manager still tried to get him the best price. read more

This company took advantage of my entire family. We had our brakes replaced in January by another shop. Then in August Mavis told my sister that she needed her brakes replaced. There is less than 50k miles on the car, there is no way the brakes needed to be replaced. They swindled her on the brakes tricking her into thinking she needed all of her brakes replaced. Then the bill says they did an alignment. This is completely untrue. The car pulls to the left still to this day. We wasted over $600 at Mavis and I would not recommend another soul going there. The mechanics are sub par and the managers customer service is even worse. I cant believe that a mechanic in todays "internet review" world could be this dishonest. If you dont want this dishonest, terrible mechanic experience I would recommend finding another place to go. This shop will do more harm than good, cause more stress than relief. read more

i'm so glad to have found john and his team at mavis. i went through a nightmare getting my snow tires at walmart on one of my vehicles, it was a cakewalk getting them on my other vehicle at mavis. mavis had to actually repair the damage done by walmart and they did it with ease. they can also do state inspections and oil changes as well which is very handy! i'll be a loyal customer for life. ps: they price match. read more

Recently went to the Catskill store for a NYS inspection and to repair two tires that were leaking air. They did fix the two tires, dismounting, cleaning, remounting and rebalancing them, but during the course of the inspection, they did something I have never seen any other NYS inspection station do. They removed one of the back tires, and the manager of the store (John) told me a bald faced lie about my rear brakes. He claimed that my nearly new rear rotors (installed by another Mavis 10K miles before) were delaminated and that he couldn't inspect the car. My rotors did have surface rust on them because I'd just bought the car, which had sat for 6+ months, but there was absolutely nothing wrong with them. I do most of my own work on cars and know more than a little bit about brakes. When I shared my story with some others, I was told other horror stories of this same store trying to prevent people from leaving because they felt their car was unsafe, when the reality is that they wanted to sell them something they did not need. Waiting for a regional Mavis representative to call me. I do not like when people want to lie to me and try to take advantage of me. If I could rate this store zero stars, I would. read more

Went to get an oil change and I told them In the cab It smelled like gas so I had them look at it, the manager said there was nothing else wrong but I just needed a new filter which was apparently releasing the smell of gas fumes and also they told me I needed two front rotors they were in really bad condition, I went to another shop the next day to see what they had to say about the smell of gas in the truck and the rotors and they told me my gas line was completely shot and I was leaking gas and my rotors were fine for a while so I guess Mavis just didn't wanna do the work read more

I made an appointment at the Catskill NY store and asked my wife to bring our Subaru in because the brake light was on. Five hrs later with no explanation the car was not even looked at. To fully understand the gravity of this situation, picture a mother with a two year old child left in a waiting room while she watched numerous customers complaining of shotty workmanship or just all around poor customer service, in addition to watching customers who had arrived after she did come and go. Finally after numerous attempts to find out what was going on with no results, she called a neighbor to come and pick them up. The car was never looked at so we took it to an auto service in the next town. The end result was that there was a small leak by the rear caliper that only required a tightening up and topping off the brake fluid, which took all of fifteen minutes. What a cruel, rotten thing to do to a mother and child, no less than to any paying customer. Shame on you Mavis of Catskill. read more

The manager (owner) is very dishonest. We were traveling in the area and the brake line broke. First estimate $600 then we said no he lowered to $420 and finally we settled for $350+tax.
