Motorists beware, Monro in Saugerties is a predatory business. My car was damaged at this location while it was left for minor repair (tensioner pulley and two belts). This work should have been a 1 day job and cost $500, but I was told by one of the acting manager's (Hailey) they had trouble getting the part and that it would be ready 3 days later at $900. When I picked up the car, after 4 more days of having to call them to find out if the work was done, there was a large scratch running down my passenger's side door and my keys were held ransom until I paid the price quoted for the work to be done at the initial estimated time of 3 days. I heard multiple excuses each day why the work was not done on time and heard everything from: ordered wrong part, the old part broke trying to remove it, and they needed two days to get a drill bit to drill out the piece that snapped off. When I arrived at the location to pick up the car I contacted the Saugerties PD, and there was nothing they could do for a civil matter other than make an incident report. The only manager whose name is posted on the wall (Markos Peratikos) is not present at this location and was not available by phone when the police were summoned over the dispute - despite having spoken to him the day before to report the issue. I was standing there, in the shop forced to call the absentee manager because the acting manager (John Smith) refused to call him claiming he was "in a meeting." This was around 7pm in the evening. I specifically requested Markos call me back when I spoke to him earlier in the day to let me know how much I would be charged when I showed up to pick up the car. I never received a call back after leaving multiple voice messages before going to the location which is about an hour from where I live as this was an unexpected pulley failure. This place is a scam and absolute nightmare. I would never go back to a Monro anywhere after this experience. It pains me to write this as I from the Hudson Valley and saddened to witness how badly the commercial incompetence crisis has blighted this area. I am considering filing a claim with the court. These people should be ashamed of themselves and give decent mechanics everywhere a bad reputation. Be warned, if you value your time and capital stay away from this place. Needless to say they are not registered with the better business bureau. read more

I sat in the lobby while my car was being inspected. I listened in amazement. The place is an upselling scam factory. Cars come in and leave with unnecessary 1K break jobs. I for one was charged $60 for wipers. I just wanted to leave with an sticker, so paid and left. I won't be back. read more

It was Sunday afternoon and I kept hearing a grinding noise near my back right tire. I put auto mechanic in my phone and this place came up. Of course, I was told they were totally booked but if I didn't mind waiting that they would look at my car. Well, safety first and I didn't mind waiting since I had a long drive back to Brooklyn. The guy behind the counter, Chris, was really friendly and told me about local places to get food that would allow me to bring my dog. Long story short, the mechanic, Billy, figured out the problem within 15 minutes. It turns out it was the heat shield over my muffler and he removed it. When I went inside to pay, I was told that there was no charge. None. Nothing. I couldn't believe it!! I am so grateful for them and am happy to know that honest and kind mechanics still exist. Went in for an oil change. Asked me what kind of oil. I said I wasn't sure. He told me I needed the $82.99 package. I said no. He went to the second most expensive one which was $40+ something. I said no. He said they couldn't do the basic one so I left, sat in my car and checked the manual to see if any of this was true. It wasn't. While I was looking through the manual he came out to my car and said he may be able to do the basic one but it could mess up my car and the warranty would be voided. I said don't worry about it and left. And I'll never go back. And you never should either. read more

These guys saved the day and my sanity! I am from New York and was in town with a group of friends. As I was driving to a hike my engine shut down, I've never seen so many flashing lights on my dashboard. Luckily I was able to coast to Monro Auto. They were able to take a look at my Subaru almost immediately and initially gave me a very glum diagnosis reporting that one of the tubes was broken and had leaked out ALL of the transmission fluid. The mechanic was was honest, matter of fact and straight forward with the many issues. The manager Chris calmed my nerves and was very reassuring. They worked on the car for two hours and consistently gave me updates. After the car was test driven it was reported that the new tube wasn't enough to rectify the problem and that I needed a new transmission. At this point I was unraveling as I calculated the cost to have my car towed to New York, repair costs, and how my friends and I would get back. As I was on the phone with AAA the mechanic came running out to "try one more thing." He went out to reset the car, thinking perhaps it had switched to a safety mode. It indeed had and the car was working and driving smoothly! This mechanic could have easily completed his diagnosis and moved on to his next job but he didn't. He worked tirelessly to research, identify, and treat the issue. He didn't just push us along, he was thoughtful and persistent. This was certainly not what we had planned for our vacation but these guys calmed my nerves, thoughtfully guided me through the issue, and fixed the car! Chris even called me later that afternoon to ensure the car was running well! Best customer service! read more

Called Jordan last Saturday. My 2004 Toyota Highlander engine was leaking oil. They were able to squeeze me in. Found the leak, replace the gasket. And at a great price compared to the dealer. Took care of our tax-exempt as a religious organization. Highly recommended! read more

I just want to say the lead guy at this shop is a total idiot. The story here is my experience with the lousy treatment from this individual. The story is slightly long but the short of it is this was an uncalled for mistreatment of a slightly demented individual. I was nothing but polite and friendly the moment I entered the store. I went to Monro at 8:05am on Xmas eve needing an inspection. The one guy told me I needed an appt. But it would be next week. He said they were closing early this day. The second guy standing behind the counter chimed in and told me he could do it in 45 minutes so I said ok should I come back in 45mins? He said no then I would loose my spot in the que.I would have to wait the 45 mins and I should pull my van into a parking spot and wait. I waited for the two customers that were being serviced ahead of me to be done which was Aprox 45 mins. then there was no other customers there ahead of me. They proceeded to bring in other cars that were in the parking lot with no waiting customers. Eventually they came to my van and all the guy said was get out. Weird? So he proceeded to take my van into the shop and put it on the lift. Then he started to be distracted with another inspection that came in while he was pulling my van in. He then proceeded to pull two wheels off my van and checked the lights. He then got distracted again with another inspection. He didn't pull any wheels on either of the other vehicles he inspected. Meanwhile I am still waiting for him to finish my inspection. They finally said I had my center brake light out and it Would need to be fixed to pass so I said great go ahead with it. He took about half an hour to replace the light looking very frustrated and talking to himself the whole time. At this point I was at this shop for almost 2 hours. First hour waiting to be brought into the shop and then once my vehicle was disabled with both tires still off, a whole second hour. I forgot to mention that it is very easy to see the brake rotors and pads just by looking at them with no need to remove the wheel. This is an e350 van with large calipers and pads. He was obviously just being very inconsiderate to me. He eventually put the wheels on the van and pulled it out and I paid the 21 for the light bulb replacement and the 23 for the inspection. I then see he didn't bother to scape all the old sticker off the windshield before sticking the new one over it. He left all the old sticker pieces on my dash down by the window. I wished them a merry Christmas and left. I will never go back to a Monro shop again based on the treatment I received from this shop. I have no idea what this guys problem was but he was a total idiot. I have owned a repair shop for 6 years in an earlier time in my life. I have never treated a customer like this even some of the worse customers I had ever had. Don't go to this location on Ulster Ave in Kingston. I will also go to corporate website and make a formal complaint. This guy seemed like he was in charge of this facility. read more

Thumbs down. Courteous when my wife walked in the door BUT when she simply asked them to check her air pressure because her low pressure light came on.....they changed their tune. On Sunday I had a blow out of my tire and had to drive on my rim for a good 10 miles for cell service. I finally reached my bf who gets all his auto work done at Monroe. I had my car towed there( they were closed) on Monday my bf stopped..we had an old tire but communicated that we were covered for a new tire and a rim through my insurance Co . I have run flats and they are super expensive. They told him that we would have to look for a rim from a junk yard! When he came home and communicated this to me after getting cut iff once snd holding 7 minutes, I finally got Chris who identified himself as the manager. I relayed the info my bf gave me and chris replied that they are not " an insurance shop" That I should call my insurance company. My goodness I am embarrassed for his lack of customer service and business skills. I had my car towed out of there and brought it yo Charlie's Auto in Catskill who was happy for my business. They called my insurance company who will pay them directly.. probably before the car is even done Business 101 Chris. Had a flat. Dropped my car off first thing in the morning when they opened. I was able to just leave the tire to get patched and get myself to work on the spare. Tire was patched and ready to go within 30 minutes of me coming back after work. I don't know the name of the man that helped me, but he was friendly, obviously helpful, explained everything about the flat and how it was repaired, and was kind and courteous to everyone that happened to be waiting while I was there. Definitely recommend this place. Will definitely go back for the next service that I need. read more

Tried to say we needed to get new rotors every-time we get brakes done! Said that the front and back breaks were bad. I knew the fronts were bad but that was it. Took it to another dealer after they tried to swindle us for 900 dollars for a bunch of stuff we didn't need. Back brakes have 15,000 miles left on them and the rotors are fine. Got all the work done at my dealers shop for 280 (only needed the front brakes like I thought.) the employee's name was Peter. Buyer beware. read more

Hello, I would like to seriously warn the people in my community of the mechanics who work at this facility. I visited their shop on 3/2 to have my front wheels balanced and dealt with an employee named Peter. Before addressing the reason I was there, Peter informed me that I needed to replace my front and rear brakes along with all of the rotors (quoted at around $900.00). When I questioned why all of the rotors needed to be replaced, Peter informed me that rotors need to be replaced every time that the brake pads are replaced. That statement is an outright lie, as rotors only need to be replaced after they've worn down to a certain width. Suspecting that something was wrong, I declined the work and opted to get a second opinion. It is significant to mention that Peter tried to communicate the "severity" of the work needed on my car and told me that if everything wasn't addressed immediately, I would end up paying double for the repairs needed. I feel that some people may have second guessed themselves and decided to get the work done at that time. I then brought my car to the mechanic at the dealership where I purchased the car 2 days after my unpleasant experience at Monro. This repair shop takes photos of the parts that need work and then emails them to the customer, which allows for great transparency. After they looked at my car, I was shown that my front brake pads did need replacing and that my front rotors could be reused at a cost for less than $300.00. I was shown that my rear brakes and rotors were completely fine. I strongly urge anyone that intends to use Monro at the Saugerties location to reconsider, as the mechanics there have no trouble ripping off their unsuspecting customers. read more

These guys are sheisters. I took my Jeep for a state inspection after checking that everything was sound. They cut my windshield wipers in order to sell me new ones. Then marked them up double what new wipers cost. They charge about double what most other garages in the area would charge. read more

These guys bailed us out of a potentially horrible situation. We were in the middle of a 7 hour drive when we got a flat tire on the highway in an area we were completely unfamiliar with. Unfortunately we only had a donut spare so we had to go somewhere local to repair our tire in order to continue on with the last few hours of our trip. This all occurred around 6:30pm. After calling multiple places within a 50 mile radius, all of the open businesses told us we had to get there by 7pm or we were out of luck--that is except for Tom at Monro! Tom and Don stayed open 30 minutes after closing time just to help us out. They could not have been more friendly and accommodating and they patched up our tire in no time at all. There didn't seem to be any 24 hour places or late night tire spots so we would have been stranded with our dog until the next day had they not been willing to help us. All of this for a customer they have never met and don't even live in the area--we can't thank them enough!! read more
