They called me a couple days before to remind me. When I got there, they had my tires ready to go. Told me it would take about 2 hours. When I came back 2 hours later, my car was ready. Terrible service. I went with my grandma in December to help her get her tire rotation which they said was going to be 1 hour, ended up being there for 7 hours. While the worker (older white heavy set man) proceeds to give my grandma attitude when we are just trying to figure out what's wrong that it's taking so long, I text my friends to ask them about this guy and apparently he is known for being extremely rude. Horrible service! I brought my car in for shocks and struts. Two weeks later I'm getting two new tires with my mechanic. They go to change tires and no wheel lock. They are dumb and most of all do not care. It's beyond cold in the reception area and the bathroom is beyond filthy that you'll catch a disease if you use it. They suck! read more

I had no issues with my car before taking it to Mavis. I went there to replace my two front tires, and while I was there, I was told that my rear tire had screws in it. However, I had only intended to get my front tires replaced. Suddenly, I found out that both of my rear tires needed to be fixed. On my way home, the low-pressure light turned on. I then took my car to another shop for a flat tire repair, where I was informed that it's possible the screws in the tire were not caused by being ran over while driving. This is dirty work and I will never recommend this place to anyone else read more

My wife had a tire with a leak, and we needed a tire patch installed. My wife dropped off the car at 9:15 am. At 12:30 pm, they called, stating that the rear brakes were 90% gone and it would be $300. She declined the repair to replace the brakes myself as I'm a former ASE Certified Master Auto Mechanic. At 5 pm I call to see if the job is done. No, it isn't. If they had the tire off and checked the brakes, the technician would have repaired the tire while the manager made the call to sell other work that may need to be done. I do not think they even looked at the brakes, but that's my opinion. My wife calls again at 6:30 pm, and they say they aren't finished putting on the rear brakes. What‽ We declined that job! She told them to put on the old brakes while the manager argued that we told them to do the job. Then they offered to do it for $150. She still declined. Ultimately, after 10 hours and trying to trick us into $300 extra for brakes that we did not need, we got the car back. I'm not saying that the picture of the rear brake pads is a poster child for excellence, but they have 75k miles on them. They have plenty of meat left on them. I've used Mavis for all of my tire needs the past 8 yrs and Scheduled an APPOINTMENT Saturday to get my tires rotated and repair a tire for Sunday @4p. I arrived on time and the guy at the front desk- Finny, appeared very frustrated. When I told him I was there for my appt, he said it wouldn't be happening and I could come back the following day. I declined and advised they shouldn't allow walk-ins when there are standing appts and he tells me they're just behind. He was unnecessarily rude and loud. So....Father's Day...Sunday...flat tire. Still a great day. I'm alive. Walked in with positive attitude and came in contact with a gentleman named phine. He was angry. Upset. Saying nasty things about coworkers. And just a horrible vibe within the first three minutes I met him. Tried wishing him a good day and a happy Father's Day and got a grunt. That being said I went into the bay where they show me the issue with my tire and it was the complete opposite. Employees happy to help me. Peppe gave me reason to want to come back. What I gained from this experience was a negative visit turning into an extremely positive one. Because of the young men that work there I will 100% come back. I purchased four tires through the MAVIS website, selecting an in-stock Cooper tire. When I dropped the car off, I was informed there was an error on the website, and they were not in stock. I was recommended a Mavis product. I picked up the car, which had a major high-speed vibration, on my way to work the following morning. I called MAVIS and was told by Phinny that I probably dropped a weight and to bring it back. Then repeat... bring it back, pick it up, and the vibration was worse than the first time. I called the Corporate Office, and they said it's expected that tires may go out of round due to transit or storage and that I should ask Mavis of West Nyack to replace them. The manager in West Nyack said he would look into it. The 3rd time, I picked up the car and was assured the issue was gone and the tires were fine. That is not the case. Off to work, I go, and the vibration is still there. Now, I insist on changing the tires and changing them for the tires I had ordered in the first place. Reluctantly, they changed them, and then Phinny dared to insinuate I would have to pay for the price difference. The major part that I am leaving out is that each time my husband called to report that the issue was still there, he was treated rudely and abruptly by Phinny. Phinny has no business at the counter. And Mavis has no business in the tire business. However, the manager was always pleasant and accommodating. One week after the new tires were on, the vibration... subtle as it was, was back! Guess what I found on my driveway where I park my car?... Two balancing weights! Now I was off to a competitor to get my tires balanced for the 4th TIME!!!!!!!!! Oh, and I forgot to mention that Phinny also told my husband that my car was dangerous to drive and that the axle was broken and needed to be replaced ASAP. I have never written a bad Yelp review in my life but today's experience at Mavis in West Nyack has changed that. Made an appointment last Friday to bring car in today at 9:00am to replace my front driver's side tire because it had a bulge in it. Was told it would take about an hour. Went in at 8:30 hoping they'd take me a little early and they did. Did not get car back until 12:30 - 4 hours later!!! Story gets worse - I go to pay and they had changed the wrong tire on my car!! When I asked to see my old tire that they say also had a bulge (even though I had just had them checked elsewhere and the only problem was with the front left tire) Mavis told me that it had already been recycled and was no longer on the property. What BS!! They ultimately gave me the new tire, had to pay for the balancing etc but since tire was still not fixed, I had to bring my car elsewhere for the repair. Just awful! Stay away! If they can't upsell you , they rip you off. The "sales Manger" told me I needed back brakes, but would soon need the front done so I agreed to have the job done, then the upsell, new tires- my tires are a year old and a front caliper - which he stated did not need to be done yet. After waiting for four hours and $800.00 later, I took my car and drove down 303- the smell of rubber was unreal, the back tire was make noises, called and brought the car back. I was told they recommended the front caliper- the problem was NOT the front brakes!! The manager Ken was hiding and I had to deal with Tyrone- who immediately said to me " I knew you'd be back" smiling. They did nothing - nothing, nor did the regional manager Michael. I brought my car to a great mechanic who stated the brake job was done sub- par- and needed to be fixed, especially the back. I was told I do not need calipers and my tire was put in such a way ,that I was lucky I didn't have an accident. The local Subaru dealership also said the brake job was improper. Today, after speaking with the manager Ken, we are very appreciative as he listened to our concerns and frustration and I believe he understandes the communication issues. I got a flat tire on a Sunday afternoon, and had my car towed to the Mavis in West Nyack, NY. Phiney immediately came out with me to check my tire size in order to ensure he had the tire so it could be changed that day. He explained all options to me, we settled on a tire, and then he even changed the channel on the tv so my husband could watch the Eagles/49ers game. Our car was ready in about an hour, and the whole team at that Mavis was friendly, helpful, and really seemed to enjoy their jobs. Recommend it highly! read more

Bought a new set of tires recently. Pleasant transaction, competitive price (same as everywhere basically), they got them in the next day and scheduled me in the day after, no problem. But... PIcked up the car, drove away, noticed in a bit one tire is low, thought they underinflated. Pumped it up (I have a portable pump), next morning, tire down to 17 PSI (from 40). Brought it back in - stem valve is loose. Ok... not great that they didn't check and potentially very dangerous, not to mention pumping your tires in 15 degree weather is a pleasure best avoided. Drove away. Next morning.... same thing. They missed some debris between the tire and the rim. Second time was the charm. Missing two leaks in newly installed tires is unacceptable and again, potentially very dangerous. read more

Took them about 6 hours to do an alignment and when it was finally done it was visibly off. When I questioned the mechanic he said it was because of something that's wrong with the car and it wouldn't be straight. So if I hadn't questioned him he would have taken my $97(including tax) and let me leave with shabby work that wasn't gonna last. read more

Brought my car to this shop 2/3 months ago to get a new set of wheels&tires mounted and balanced, afterwards had wheel shake on the drivers wheel and thought it was due to the aftermarket wheel or them not installing the hub centric rings. After putting it on the lift and going to remove the wheel, I then found 3/4 lugs were loose...stay away from this place! I could've lost my life due to poor or rushed work!!!! I had a serious flat on the New York Thruway. The 1st motor club guy could only get 4 of 5 lug nuts off. He called for backup and the next tuy brought out an impact wrench and the top of the lug nut snapped off. Oh, oh! Now we're getting towed. The tow truck driver says i know a place nearby. It was Mavis Discount tire and we dropped it off. Its now 11PM so i get a room at the Tappan Zee Motor Lodge (Motto, Our roaches have fleas. ) I used the night drop box and left the key. Called at 8:10 AM and the manager Ken said the machine they use to fix lug nuts like that was broken. Crap! What the heck. Went there for 4 new tires because my mechanic isn't open on the weekends. Big mistake; I should have taken a day off and stuck with my mechanic. They tried to sell me tires that were over 18 months old and then got an attitude with me when I told them that was too old. Should have left then. I picked out another tire brand that was shockingly more expensive, but had a manufactured date of between 6 and 9 months. Later they come out and told me I needed needed new rotors and front and rear brake pads. I told them that I had recently been to my mechanic and I know for a fact that was not true, and to finish my tire installation. 5 minutes later they come back and say maybe it's not the rotors and brakes, you need a new caliper. I said thanks for the heads up while laughing. These guys will lie to your face, with an attitude, to sell you parts and services that you don't need. Do not go here, these guys are lying thieves! 3 months later I go to my mechanic, and he confirmed these guys were lying. I didn't need new rotors, new front brakes, or a new caliper. I have never experienced such incompetence. I waited 6 hours for 2 tires and rear brakes. There was no communication, customer service or apology. I had to learn that they put the wrong breaks on my car from eavesdropping. Other customers were complaining and they said they made a mistake on putting the wrong brakes on MY car so it was causing a backlog. If they just communicated, I could have gone to the mall, asked a friend to pick me up or ubered somewhere. Instead, they kept saying any minute. I didn't eat all day and I was there from 12-5:45. To add insult, they couldn't take my payment because their systems went down and it took 35 min to reboot. This morning I drove to work and my low tire air alert came on. Went to STS for an extremely simple power steering belt change because I have gone there for oil changed in the past and enjoyed the speedy service. This time - I ask the owner what this will cost for strictly belt change authorization - He says normal is 30 minutes but will extend if anything else is found. I watched them finish the belt in 20 minutes (I work across the street and have vision of them) car in and out and think "Hey, great!" I call back 1hr 1/2 later and am told that only the belt change took 1 hr, so the cost would be $45 for the belt (less than $20 at autozone) as well as a FULL hour of labor at $105. 15-Minute Power steering belt change that costs $150. DO NOT GO HERE. OWNER IS A CROOK. I also went there a month or so ago about my loud exhaust that cracked. They told me it was absolutely unable to be welded and would need a full exhaust instill costing $1250. I took it to Complete Auto Care a half mile down the road and they welded the pipe in 20 minutes for $30. Never again. Also reporting to the BBB. read more

He took a phone call in the middle of my sentence and was in full flirt mode with the person on the phone which was another Mavis worker because he said that she was making him hot and had to look her up in the worker directory all while I was still waiting to explain my issue with my tire. Growing up out in the woods of Hunterdon County, NJ my parents always brought their cars to STS. Now that I'm in my 30's and have gone through a few cars, and auto repair companies, I've come to the conclusion that there is no chain better than STS - or even close. They are reliable, honest and don't rob you. I've been a satisfied customer at the branches in Clinton and Califon, NJ and when I moved to Westchester County I was thrilled with the one in White Plains. Now that I'm on the other side of the river in Rockland County and am having an auto issue, I'm thrilled to have an STS so close! These guys rock ! read more
