Overwhelmingly large beer, wine and Scotch selections available. Craft beer is fresh and the beer department is always brining in new beers. If you are looking for a specific wine, liquor, cordial, or beer, I'm pretty sure Max has it. Lots of limited and special releases, hard-to-find beers, and a great selection of Scotch. Everything from Cognac to Sake is available here. This is one of the best, and has very good customer service as well. Their inventory serves all budgets. Definitely a go to place and priced reasonably. Parking is limited as the store is right off the road. But additional parking available around the area. Also, make sure you join the loyalty program that they have, great way to earn points and save more. I would highly recommend, if you are in and around the area. read more

So, when I wanted to purchase my friend a bottle of wine (from his favorite area of California wine country) i went to three stores and were unsuccessful until I went to Max! I found an employee who was very helpful and together we went through their large selection and found the perfect wine for my friend. I love this liquor store and it's my favorite. They have a fantastic selection of craft beers and significantly more than most package stores. They stock many different craft lagers, stouts, IPA's and ales. They also have a great variety of imported beers from Germany and Belgium. Their prices are the best I've seen. Their customer service is also extremely knowledgeable about their products. I highly recommend checking them out. read more

I've seen a lot of people complain about customer service on Yelp and score this place low. I absolutely disagree with the low score. The strengths of this store may not be smiling, glad-handing associates but they do include a decent selection for wine and strong for liquor and beer plus competitive pricing all around. Since I used to live closer to Jax than I do now I've found I miss having them nearer. There are far lesser stores out there (and not many better) and this place can shine in comparison. Over the last 5+ years as the tequila, bourbon, and IPA boom have been in full swing, Jax has been pretty on point. No, they don't have rare wines (which I used to appreciate more than I do now) but their selection is reasonably broad and the store overall has been very good. I've realized whenever I'm in the area I try to find time to pop in to the store and usually end up picking something up. Maybe it's true what they say, that distance makes the heart grow fonder, but I considered my 4-star rating at length and can say they truly deserve it. read more

The staff here is pretty unfriendly and unhelpful from my experiences. I've been in here a few times now and everyone I've encountered was pretty rude. The last time I was in this morning, I take my three bottles that I paid nearly $200 for to the register. No greeting from the cashier who's name on the receipt says "Muz." I ask him "how's it going?" He literally grunted at me. Didn't even utter a word. He asked for my rewards number, rang up my bottles and didn't say another word. No "thanks" or "thank you." There was nothing pleasant about this interaction or this visit to the store. In fact, I haven't had one single pleasant trip to this store. If anything, my visits here make me want to recoil from going to this store at all. Another example: Was in a few weeks ago, asked for help finding something, the guy who was doing absolutely nothing, points in a direction and says "yeah, over there." Again, this is not helpful. How about showing me where it is? Any moron can point and say "over there." And, it turns out it wasn't "over there." I ended up grabbing someone more competent to show me where it actually was. I've also called ahead a few times to see if they have what I've been looking for in stock. Both times a woman answered who was super short and rude. When I asked if they had something in stock she replied "we should." Then when I asked the price she said "Oh, I don't know I'd have to look. I think it's like $40-$50." Ummm, okay.. cool? How about checking while I'm in the phone with you? What's the point of even calling if you can't get someone to give you a straight answer? Again, this is NOT helpful. This place has a great selection but if you want to keep making money, starting acting like you like making it. read more

Went during the COVID-19 pandemic, and almost none of the employees were wearing masks or gloves. I asked an employee a question and he kept coming within 2 feet of me. I had to back track throughout the store to keep him within at least 3 feet away. This type of thing has happened to me twice here. If you want to feel safe during the pandemic do DOT go here! Jax customer service has really gone down hill. Their employees are not friendly and don't want to be bothered when you need help or have a question. Recently they posted on IG that they would have an allocated item on a certain date and when I showed up to grab one it was not in store and the employees were annoyed that I was asking for it. I used this store under JAX and highly recommended it. But Max is arrogant and just too full of themselves. I have always ordered and picked up since I didn't want to go inside (COVID19). As a former resident of Atlanta and a new resident of Cumming I have been to several liquor stores throughout the area and Jax is a very pleasant surprise. Their prices and selection are amazing. Many items are more than a couple bucks cheaper than both Total Wine and Tower. I've read these reviews and would recommend you check this store out for yourself. They have a new manager who cares about customer service. He was very helpful to my wife in making sure they have her favorite wine and I found many of the hard to find beers all in one store. This store has one of the largest selection in Forsyth County . Prices on beers are better than anyone around . I love good German beers and I always find it here . Good wine selection. I come here maybe a few times a year. The only bad experience I had was when I was looking for a bottle of grapefruit liquor, called, pamplemoose. This is the common name. The employee I asked, had no idea what it was and said, they don't stock grapefruit liquor because it's probably not popular. Hmm. Total Wine stocks at least 2-4 brands of it and so does Tower liquor and it doesn't seem to collect dust on the shelf. I find the prices are average and not any better than TW, if at all. read more

This place is totally a shell of it's former self. While they have retained the lowest prices in town, competitors have recently popped up in the area that get awfully close to their prices with a better overall selection of beer, a FAR better selection of cold beer with much cleaner stores that have more navigable aisles. In addition, ever since Marketplace Blvd. started rapidly expanding and traffic increased, good luck getting in/out of their parking lot (yet another mess) in a reasonable amount of time unless someone lets you out. At this point, I won't step foot in there unless everything else is closed and I've got no other options. Even then, the craft beer I get will most likely be warm since only some of theirs (mostly Sam's, Terrapin and Abita) are in coolers and are quite possibly outdated. read more

My husband and I stopped at Jax a couple of days ago to purchase a cheap bottle of bourbon for my bourbon chicken recipe. I went in with my husband to show him what to get. I grabbed the bottle and sat it on the counter for my husband to pay and show ID because I left my bag in the car assuming I didn't need it since my husband would have his wallet. This all took less than two minutes because we got one of the small bottles up front by the register. So we weren't roaming the store and casing the joint. I was wearing my covid mask so the lower half of my face was covered. The guy asked to see my ID. I told him my husband was paying and my husband pulled his ID out. I totally get needing to check IDs and I'm flattered if you think I look that young but this guy's response was just WEIRD. He told me to move away from the register and stand by the door. I said okay and followed his instructions but I felt embarrassed and violated in some way like I was in trouble and had not even done anything. My husband is 48 and I am almost 48. I have a huge white streak in my hair and my husband's hair is peppered with gray. I am a kind natured, modestly dressed teacher and I did not appreciate being treated like a criminal. I haven't been to many liquor stores in Cumming, so I don't have much to compare it to, but Jax seems to be pretty great for the area. Their beer selection is smaller than I have seen, but is really solid. If you're going to buy quality craft beer, go next door to the growler refill station for a better price. The keg selection is decent but not super exciting, but I asked about it and they will provide party taps and other stuff that you need if you don't have a kegerator. The liquor selection at Jax is fantastic and their prices can't be beat in the area. Not sure how they do it, but you will pay significantly less at Jax than other smaller package stores in the area. Their staff is very friendly and willing to talk to you for the most part, which is not typical for liquor store staff in my experience. I would come back here for all my booze needs while in Cumming! read more

Hell yes. I don't usually go this far out, but I had a customer in Dawsonville who required a visit onsite. Since I was this far out I looked up package stores to see what's around, and Jax came up as number one on the list. Soooo, drive down and check it out. Easy to find, right off the exit on Hwy 20 where everything else on Earth is, big lot, easy access. Went in to find a good sized package store, plenty of stock. Since I'm beer man I skipped past everything else and went to the beer section. Holy piss. Wow. Huge selection, lots of rarities, even a few I've never seen around Atlanta. Beware of the prices & your receipt! I lived in Cumming for 12 years prior to moving to Florida and used to always go to Jax. During a visit to Georgia this week, I stopped by to check out the store. While I was very impressed with the expansion, I was not impressed with the customer service. First, I bought 10 cases of beer. 4 of the beers were placed under the wrong price and the store did not honor the stocking error. Then I was rung up for 5!!! additional beers that I didnt even buy. When I talked to the "manager", she couldnt explain what happened so I canceled the entire order and took my business to Kroger (which has a decent beer selection now). Please review your receipt in case some shady business is occurring. read more
