There aren't too many of them in my area, and the one closer to me was charging way too much. This place is a bit out of my way but the price I was quoted was much better than the other place, so I decided to check it out. I made the appointment with Jerry, who seems to be the main person here. Since I live far away, he was able to accommodate me by getting it done in less than an hour. It was a fairly simple job of just drilling some holes on the bass and installing the covers, but I appreciated his willingness to work with my schedule. The work was clean and didn't see any dings or scratches on my new bass. I've been to some places in the past where I found all kinds of scratches afterward. If I'm in the area again, I am going to bring some of my other guitars and basses for a basic set-up. Please note that this place is by appointment only, and you can't wait inside the shop while they work. The door is kept locked (for a good reason). You need to knock on the door to enter.

Tube, solid state, modeling. if it's fixable, we will fix it. We offer reasonable rates and quick turnaround times, and professional expertise. Whether you need to fully restore a vintage Fender or replace the jack on the CRATE amp you've had in your garage for twenty years, we've got you covered. Here's just a sampling of what we do: -- Tube replacement and biasing -- General service including cleaning of all contact points and repairing if necessary -- Grounded cable installation -- Your amp doesn't sound right for any of these reasons: It's too quiet, it makes noise, it hums or buzzes, crackles or pops. The knobs don't work or they make noise. Your speaker doesn't sound right. Your fuse keeps blowing and you don't know why. It turns on but makes no sound. It doesn't turn on at all! Or maybe it just doesn't sound like it used to. We can help with all of this. And we take a holistic approach to your amp, which means we look at the whole amp and evaluate it from there instead of looking for band-aids or easy fixes. With vintage amps, our goal is to keep them original as possible. We're not going to tear the beautiful Blue Molded capacitors out of your old Fender just because they're old. Instead, we test everything to see what's still working and what needs to be replaced.

Wonderful family-run business I have had the pleasure of visiting a couple of times in the past…read morecouple of weeks. My first visit was for an adjustment ona new electric violin that I bought for my daughter. It came from Europe, so I had to find a local luthier. They did a fantastic job! I went today for an issue with my daughter's acoustic, which they quickly and thoroughly resolved. The entire family is incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and generous with their skills. I couldn't recommend them more!

Wow, I'm surprised to see AMAC is on here. With a review, no less!…read more The owner, Edmund Wu, is actually a personal friend of mine and, well, I helped him get an eBay retail business going back in the mid '90s (as well as sundry other violin-related ventures he had brewing in his mind at the time). In return, he arranged to have instruments built for me in China. While they *do* maintain a quasi-storefront, this is basically a violin academy that holds periodic recitals as well. They also do A LOT of wholesale-to-the-trade activity. You couldn't tell by looking at the place from the street, but the back half of the building is a warehouse! Since you're probably not a wholesaler, let me tell you a bit about their normal-people services. There's a small violin shop. You can buy recordings, accessories, sheet music, and any violin-family instrument in any size. There is also a limited selection of antique instruments. They also have some very high-grade Chinese violins that give some of the better old Italians a run for their money. They have cheap stuff too. The whole gamut, basically. Most repairs are sent out. I don't know what else to say. The teachers, of whom Edmund is one, are very qualified. Ask for Edmund, because he's the only one who speaks English well enough to carry out any meaningful business. They're closed on Mondays. They also have a small boutique shop in a reconverted bungalow down in Old Town Fullerton, on the west side of Harbor Blvd., north of Chapman.

Most of his business is in…read morerepairing instruments, but his real skill and passion can be seen in the work he does to build rare or custom designed pieces. I asked him about his trade, and he showed me a Civil War-era bugle that he crafted, as well as a fairly bizarre-looking (at least to me) B-flat horn that he constructed based on a design provided by a customer. This experience building custom instruments seems to have made him especially knowledgeable about the effects of different materials, construction techniques, and the range of things that are even possible in building a horn. I came to Robb Stewart with my horn, the lead pipe of which had been hit pretty hard in an accident that left it slightly bent. He managed to finish the work to realign it and correct some of the structural damage the accident had caused in just a few days and gave me a quote upfront. No complaints about the quality of the work either; the instrument plays just as it did before, with only a few small traces of where the metal work had been done. No credit cards; cash or check only.

Rob took my horn, replaced the crook, and took out many of the dents I had accumulated over the years. You couldn't even tell. I called Robb and he squeezed me in to make the horn presentable and scheduled a time for me for him to do a more thorough job. Robb is the best. He is more expensive than taking your horn to a store, but well worth the money.
