FANTASTIC gym all around. I started at this gym because it was nearby and I was sick of the health club crap (Lifetime Fitness) and wanted a down to earth gym again. Loved the gym - it had exactly that vibe and I felt like I was in a lifting atmosphere where I got sh*t done again. Even better are the people - I can't voice enough for this team.. read on: Long story short I moved and thought I cancelled my membership when I moved but didn't and ended up incurring membership fees for about 5-7 more months without realizing it. Once I realized it, I called in to cancel and pay my remaining balances from that time and they instead decided to cover ALL the fees since the last month I checked in. I didn't owe anything. That is unheard of in almost any business and they had no obligation to do that. Definitely choose this gym if you're reading this - you won't regret anything. Thank you Max Fit! Best place in town. Designed for IFBB Pro's or the beginner. Good solid equipment that you won't find anywhere else. This is not the place that you will find teenagers on their phones screwing around. Maximum is designed for people that are serious about results. read more

Great gym for those serious about working out and not looking for a social club. Excellent equipment and maintained. Staff is friendly, cleans, and professional. Locker rooms are always clean as is gym equipment. Only drawback is most of the personal trainers. Only a few display gym etiquette and an actual knowledge of fitness. I've been a gym rat since I was 14 years old, which was many moons ago. I've been lifting weights for a long, long time and have been to many, many gyms. Maximum Fitness is my kind of gym. The equipment is plentiful and varied. The layout makes sense. The locker rooms/bathrooms are laid out correctly. The patrons while I was there were in shape and focused on their workout. Love the gym! BUT, it's COLD as hell in there! Most of my family and a lot of my friends train there. REALLY bummed they eliminated the Boxing room, since that is why I started there a hundred years ago. But they have a small area with 2 heavybags and 2 speedbags. Unfortunetly the trainers tend to clutter that area with other things. Otherwise the gym has everything you need no dought. Even some area outside to train! Which I love. You won't be disappointed. Oh, and the personal is usually great! Friendly. And Some great old school trainers that won't get you hurt. read more

In the area for a conference and needed a better gym than what the hotel provided. Came to Maximum and was blown away! First off, Dallas (front desk) was awesome and got me a week pass. Entire staff is amazingly friendly and keeps this gym in tip top shape. The gym itself is huge but not like the big box gyms. This gym has a personality and it's that of someone that you want to become great friends with. It has everything you need and more. I so wish I had this place in Tampa. This gym is definitely old school and bare bones, but it's got everything you need: cardio machines, sleds, plenty of free weights, lots of squat racks, Olympic lifting platforms, etc. and I rarely if ever had to wait on any equipment. If that's what you're looking for, and you're okay with a small, basic locker room, and not having some of the amenities other gyms have, then this is the place for you. Another nice thing is none of the gym staff have sales goals, so they're not constantly calling you or pestering you when you check in to try and sell you training packages, like they do at LA Fitness or Lifetime I wound up canceling my membership since I moved and it was too inconvenient to get up there, but it's a good gym. The only thing I really didn't like was some of the personal trainers that work out of here set up these elaborate CrossFit-like training circuits for their clients that take up half the gym, so a lot of the time you're jumping out of their way or have to walk around half the gym to get to another machine. Maximum Fitness has been around for longer then I can remember. I use to be a member there in high school when JD Durso was the boxing trainer and the front desk guy/trailer was Blair. I will admit that I hop around a lot, making good use of all the guest passes I get from friends, or the astronomical amount of road races I sign up for ($$$$$$), but I have to mention that this gym actually is a little different from many places I have been to. It's named appropriately. This isn't a place for kids, day camps, people who want to show off their latest gym outfit. It's a place to get maximum results. There is more weight equipment here than any other gym I've been to. They even have the _____ (forgive me I don't know the proper name) "thing" that's similar to what football players push. You can add weight to it and push or pull it around the gym. Yowza, this one chick was buff!!! Oh ok, I cheated and read thru reviews, I think it is a prowler sled. They also have a boxing studio, which was pretty neat. Tons of punching bags, plenty for everyone. I did take a boxing class, and holy cow, what a workout. I like that though, because if it's easy, then I can't expect to get stronger! I couldn't even finish the ab exercises but I know I need to work on that. I also liked that we ran around the building outside. Yes, it's hot, but no one ever got a six pack by staying dry! Another neat thing is that they don't employ personal trainers, but they encourage personal trainers to come and train their own clients. Amy was helping me punch correctly, and she was awesome, very inspiring. There is a poster of her on the wall in the boxing room because she can fight! I believe it! JD led the class and he kept it very challenging! The locker rooms were nice too. Not "fancy", but spacious and clean. Definitely not a "Health Club", but absolutely a place to reach Maximum Fitness! By far the best gym in Scottsdale if you are looking to work up a sweat with no frills. I've worked out here for over 20 years since it was the original owner Ray and was located on Scottsdale & Shea. I keep coming back because it's a great place to workout. The front desk staff is super nice and they know everyone by name. Come as you are, hang up your keys and workout. If you are looking for aerobics, spin or childcare this isn't the place, but if you are looking for a serious workout you won't be disappointed. This Gym rocks! I don't like to write too many reviews, but I'm writing one right now and giving it 10 stars! I was visiting out of town and was looking for a nice gym with decent equipment for me to get my workout in for about a week. This gym gave me a week pass without question, hassle free, no sales pitch NOTHING! After getting my workout in for the day I realized why no sales pitch. It's because they don't need to. This is the most well organized, clean, gym I've been to. Plenty of equipment! Anything you can think of, for you to get nice workout in. Trainers here are always so eager to help you if you're looking for an equipment, front desk people greet you every time you walk in. The overall energy here is just so nice! I've worked out at lifetime fitness, at various equinox locations, 24 hours. Pretty much I'm a big time workout addict. And this gym has totally won my heart and soul hahah! I wish this gym was in LOs Angeles! Can't wait to return to Arizona, just to use this gym again. Also I hear one of the owners was a SgtMaj in the marines. My husband and I are Lifetime members (and he's been there since they opened their doors). I started coming to Maximum 3 days a week when my trainer Jake started training his clients there beginning of 2017. I had only walked through the doors of Maximum a few times and Steve & Crys knew me by my first name. That's rad. Everyone is so friendly and personable. Simple gym. All the equipment you'd need. I tried a one-week pass, as lifetime is pricey and wasn't really my kind of place. Looking for more of an old school feel, and found it at maximum. Loved the boxing equipment, everything else was pretty out of date. Gym has kind of a funky smell, which I expected and didn't mind, I've worked out in plenty of dungeons and got great workouts. Equipment is pretty old, but in good repair and usable. Freeweights are the old school metal kind with some wear. Community seemed friendly. Staff was friendly. All stuff I expected as an experienced lifter, and was happy with. What I didn't expect was some archaic "processing fee" to join. I asked if they'd wave if I switched from another gym, guy on the phone seemed disinterested and just said no. I worked in fitness marketing - these kinds of fees are meant to cash out on people early so you can make a buck on them whether they stick with you or not. They had my business, and lost it just as quickly. This is clearly a budget gym - which is fine - but to be honest it wouldn't be worth getting into for 80 bucks my first month with so many much newer gyms around. If a Gym has no amenities but still charges processing, it's then a cash grab that they're are pretending to not have a choice in waiving. Too big of a risk given their 30-days required notice, meaning if I don't like the gym, I'm in for about 100 bucks before I can quit. No thanks. My advice - wise up and cut the sales crap. It's 2016, and you have a good place. Have enough faith in your facility and services to keep people coming without shaking them down. read more

As a diehard "Gym Rat" (you can tell from my extremely large head) and martial artist I have had the oppurtunity work and train in just about every type a facillity available. Max Fitness soon to be Powerhouse Gym takes me back to the days of Pumping Iron with Gov. Swarzeneger. It is very old school and very hardcore. The equipment is not the latest and greatest however, it is some of the best and they have a lot of it. What I found really cool is they have an area set up specifically for boxing. They have everything you need including a regulation ring and timer. Another interesting feature is the strongman area. I actually got to see World Strongman Kevin Knee Flippin 500lb tires with some of the biggest silverback guerillas in AZ. Fascinating to see in there natural habitat. Powerhouse is not a gym for everyone. The facillity is old and not very clean. The members are typically competetive bodybuilders, strongmen, and female fitness competitors. Don't get me wrong everyone was very friendly from the staff to the members. If you're looking for Disneyland go to Lifetime. If you want to kick your ass and sweat with the best this is the place for you. One more point, the membership rep that helped me was a little on the pushy side. I don't like hard sales so this turned me off a bit. read more

WARNING!!!! Be careful giving them credit card information FOR a 1 time charge. They WILL not remove it for 30 days, thereby you'll be incurring another months 29.95 fee for the gym, it's a complete gotcha. My problem is I never agreed to automatically billed payments. It left a bad taste in my mouth. The lack of consistent fees and policies has hurt my experience. Update: I tried to reach a mutually beneficial agreement with management to resolve the fraudulent activity that occurred. After requesting to speak with the gym owner, the manager on duty refused to let me speak or give me a number to reach them. He then reiterated that I would be charged the additional 29.95 fee. Update #2: Owner and manager attempted to charge my credit card with the additional fee. My intention has always been to continue with a cash contract and move on. They refused my cash and services. Other gyms deserve your business, definitely not this one with poor customer service and management. Final Update: the response from the owner below sums up my experience with this gym. Excuses, fraudulent activity, and dishonesty. He hung up on me on more the one occasion. I cancelled my credit card to avoid his threats of additional fees. He replied to my review after noticing that he would be unable to extract another fee. Long story short, forms were completed without my knowledge and a membership started without my knowledge. The gym then was dishonest about its actions and tried to fine me more once they had the credit card. Be very weary and go elsewhere. read more

Boxing. Yes, boxing. It's what you want. A full body workout with kickass instructors who will whip you into shape and they've got the before and after pictures to prove it. I walked in to Maximum Fitness with an idea of why I was there, but the pictures on the walls keep me motivated, along with the "ONE, TWO, JAB!"s coming from JD, the instructor, as we punch away at the many bags around the room. I can keep up most of the time, but when I can't, Amy, another trainer, is there giving me a backup option to all those up-downs. I love that. I always walk out of the class sweaty, out of breath, and feeling like a million bucks. The gym is well stocked with plenty of ellipticals and treadmills (I don't know much about the weight machines, since I never use them, but there seems to be a ton of those too). There are overhead fans to keep you from overheating and flat screen tvs to watch while you're toning those gams. This is a great no fuss gym. read more

I LOVE this gym. I was so sad to leave, but the commute was too much moving across town. The owner is so nice and friendly, and always greeted me by name. The majority of the staff did as well! I usually went early in the morning to avoid crowds, and the people there mostly keep to themselves, and focused on their workouts which I really appreciated. AMAZING equipment. Although the gym has a great feeling of "real lifters," the owner has signs that imply that girls are weaker and if they have to re rack your weights you are a weakling. For me that is just an immature mentality. My real concern is that the gym hasn't taken the precautions necessary to keep the members safe from Covid-19. Further, the recalcitrant attitude of ownership has infected the members. Not one person was wearing a mask or gloves. Sadly, conversations from the owner and other members are about how the virus is fake or a hoax. Proceed with caution. read more

Started working out herewith my group from ToBeRe. We have anywhere from 12 to 20 people and have plenty of room and equipment to use for the whole group. This place is huge and has just about anything weights or equipment wise you need. People who I see in the gym seem to be serious about training and you don't see a lot of socializing or a pick-up joint atmosphere. read more
