I may not be Mexican but when I feel like pretending my meals are made with la Mexicana ingredients. Stay thirsty my friends. Somewhat narrow isles and very busy on the weekends. They have a pretty well organized store for such a small footprint the selections are good for most of your deli/ bakery and kitchen necessities and spices/seasonings for Latino style cooking. The fajitas steaks are around 5.00 a lb great for grilling. And freshly made tortillas made in house hot and ready. For 2 dollars! Checkout a few times was in the past were friendly, quick and painless. I like quick in and outs. Although weekends can be brutal anywhere. I always come here for my meats and imported goods from Mexico that I need that I can never find at a local grocery store. The prices are fair and the products are authentic. And authenticity is a huuuuuuge thing for me. This place never fails me. But I do hate the long waits that's for sure. read more

Look behind the gas station down the tiny street (23rd ave sw) off Collier Blvd. Thats where you'll find La Mexicana. Need to pay your electric bill AND your Metro pcs bill all at once, plus get some tasty food and a drink?? Then come here. Very nice service, fruits and meat. Prices are up to par with the larger grocery chains. They have a small eating area where you can purchase Mexican tasties by the pound. read more

This place is pretty cool...they have a nice selection of Mexican sodas and snacks you can't find elsewhere. They also have a nice hot food section that always looks and smells really good, but I like to stick to the huge donuts and cake slices that are hella cheap. They even offer bil paying services and a Metro PCS right inside. Pretty convenient if you're in the area and in a hurry. read more

AUTHENTIC Latin fare. The restaurant inside this Grocery Store is excellent. I love their authentic, well-priced food. The Al Pastor tacos, Bistek and Milanesa Platters, and ALL of their tortas are to die for. Also, if you like Micheladas, theirs is the best I have found in town. read more

Thanks to another poster (George T) I ventured into La Mexicana and I'm glad I did. The CORN tortillas are above par, made fresh daily by a machine and packaged immediately and kept warm. At $1.25 for a small package, the drive is worth it for me. Please note CORN tortillas do not freeze well, you can keep them refrigerated for a couple of days at most and reheated in the microwave, so plan ahead and preferably buy them the same day you plan to eat them. They also sell flour tortillas and have a wide range of chiles and specialty cheeses (e.g. cotija). The place is very clean and very, very busy since most people stop to buy tortillas for dinner. The store is at the back of the street, tucked away to the right. This is also a great place to buy cheap Florida coconuts and specialty fruits like sapote at 1/2 the price of Whole Foods. Disclaimer: I didn't buy any meats since I prefer organic grass-fed beef from WholeFoods, but the meat section looked comparable to Publix. read more

Wow I came to this store for the first time to buy Mexican sweet bread, and surprise they're 10 for $7.99. By accident I put in a different kind of bread in the bag that wasn't on special. My mom went to grab a bag so we could separate the breads and the bakery lady snatched the bag from my mom and said she'd sort them herself, after lecturing us and reading the sign to us as if we couldn't read it ourselves. She then put the bread that wasn't on special back. My mom told her we still wanted to purchase the bread and she proceeded to scream at us saying why didn't we tell her then. I asked her if there was an issue, or a reason why she was treating us so rudely. She then yelled at me that it's our fault because we always go into the store screaming, I told her I'd never been there before and she argued that I was just there screaming at someone. My mom told her it was my first time here and she told my mom to shut up because she had no business speaking! Needless to say we ended up leaving the bread behind, and this store lost 2 customers. If I could give this place 0 stars I would, Ive never been treated so poorly for absolutely no reason. Wow por primera ves fui a esta tienda a comprar un pan dulce y sorpresa, eran 10 por $7.99. Por equivocación metí un pan relleno de dulce en la misma bolsa y mi mama agarro otra bolsa para apartarlo. Antes que pudimos separar los panes la señora en la panadería de la tienda le rebato la bolsa a mi mama y dijo que ella lo iba hacer ella misma, después de que nos leío el rótulo en forma despectiva, como que si no sabíamos leer. Nos empezó a gritar que la próxima ves leieramos el rótulo y puso el pan de regreso. Mi mami le dijo que todavía queríamos los panes y nos grito que porque no le dijimos entonces. Le pregunté cuál era el problema, ósea porque nos trató de manera tan despectiva y comenzó a gritar que siempre llegábamos a gritar ahí pero la verdad es que nunca ni había ido a esta tienda.
