Recently, we found Luke's Repairs and Remodeling to address the following issues: all interior and exterior doors were replaced and reframed, all pocket doors were replaced with new hardware which required removing and replacing the drywall. We also needed the entire house painted, a closest built around our mechanicals and additional shelving erected in the laundry area, as well as some electrical work. Luke came out, listened to everything we had to say and gave excellent input for the project. He gave us an estimate and stayed within the estimate for the entire job. Luke started on time, communicated throughout the entire timeline and ended on time. Luke, as well as his skilled carpenters, never minded being interrupted with questions and always took the time to communicate clearly. The project took approximately two weeks to complete. We thoroughly enjoyed visiting Luke's warehouse to choose the items we needed for the repair and remodeling. Luke also did all the ordering, pick up and checked the materials that were delivered. We never had to bother with any items that were needed for our home. When I asked for his credentials, Luke did not hesitate to provide me a copy of his Kentucky contractor's license and his insurance. We noticed the way Luke was with the men he worked with. I would not recommend using Cox Interiors. We had them make custom doors for the front of our…read morehouse. The doors were beautiful. The doors came with a one-year warranty. Within a few months, the wood panels on both doors started warping. It took Cox a couple of months before they came out to look at the doors. Several months later they determined that the doors are defective, and they decided that the doors needed to be re-made. It's now been eight months, and I have still not received new doors. Now, one of the glass panels has moisture inside a panel. My salesperson has now stop accepting or returning my calls. Unfortunately, it looks like I will have to sue the company and seek a refund. The quality of the doors is not good, and the service from the company is horrible.

i'm a 61+ yr. old disabled recently widowed (3+ years ago)…read more i'm on social security disability. i moved here 2+ years ago. don carpenter was referred to me to do some work in my home. a fireplace, flooring, to rebuild my stairs because they're way to steep for me to climb because i'm disabled, to put in a propane gas line in for a washer/dryer, bathroom upstairs, siding on my home, stairs to the loft in my barn, electricity in my garage, build a roof over my back porch, some other things too. i asked him for a contract several times and he always told me, don't worry about it, we're friends. i continued asking for a contract but never got one. he told me that he had a couple of jobss he was finishing up and he'd start work on my job as soon as he finished with those. i wait waited waited and waited. he kept telling me he was almost finished with those jobs. he came over and we talked about his labor cost and money for the materials. by this time my money that my husband's life insurance was just about gone. it had been about a year that i had been waiting for him to work on my property. he talked me into getting a equity loan against my home $77,000 i owed absolutely nothing for my property! he asked me if he could take a small job while i was waiting for the money to be deposited in my bank. my bank said 2 weeks he. said that the. job would take a week at the most. the money was deposited to my account in less thann a week. i caled don and told him. he did not hesitate coming over ffor 1/2 of the labor cost $13,750. then he started telling me that the siding was gonna cost this much and the flooring is gonna cost that much. i gave him a check for half of his labor cost. he said that he needed so much money to start buying materials for my job and that if i wrote a check for a large amount that it would take several weeks for him to be able to use the money for for the materials, that i should buy the materials with cash because he would just go buy and get the materials and bring them back to my garage. but in the meantime he would send over a person to put in the electricity in my garage. (that actually got done!) he kept coming back and asking for some of the money of the last part of the labor money. he actually borrowed $700 to take his wife out for datte night on tuesdays, then he borrowed $1200 for something else, then he said he needed $2000 because their washer and dryer broke down, then he finally sent his son cody and his helper paul here to actually start on the fireplace, he asked for another $2000 so that he could pay his guys wages! i asked don do you expect me to give you money so that you can pay your guys for working on someone else's property? bbut nothing on mine? he got angry and told the. 2 guys to gather their tools that they were leaving. he said that i told him that i said that i would do it. i told him that i would ssee iif i could, then he said that his wife paula even heard me say it. so i handed him $2000 and told him tthat he's not getting any more money out of me until the work was finished, every single thing! he would yell at me, he'd tell me that he would start work on my home the next monday but he wanted to finish the other guys job first first. it had already been almost 3 weeks on the job that was supposed to be less than a week. i traded some of my husbands tools for his labor to put the siding on, washer and dryer hooked up, the stairs to the loft in my barn. i gave gave hhim $800 for a front door with double glass in it, i gave him $1200 for stone veneer for the fireplace, i had to pay off the money that he owed at the lumber yard because they wouldn't let him get anymore number and tthat was $1800.. he kept telling me that he would take the money that i loaned him off of the final labor cost. while he was taking me for everything that i had i ended up having a stroke and stayed at a hospital for 5 days, then i had a nervous breakdown, and my doctor said that i also had a a mini stroke. i never, ever, ever, had any problems with my heart. i even had a cardiologist tell me that i have a heart of a teenager! by this time i knew that he wasn't gonna do anything that we agreed on. while i was having my breakdown, i noticed that my husbands ashes weren't where they usually were. so i called don asked him if he took them when what i meant to say was if he moved them. the next day i called my doctor and told them about how was feeling and they told me to come right in. my doctor knew what was going on because i told her everything that was happening with don. anyways, i started telling don that i waas broke, that i had his money but other than that i was broke! i had $5000 for my deductible for my eyelids to be lifted because they sag and has been causing eye infections. don carpenter stole from me! lied about everything! took me for everything that i had! i'm paying an equity loan that i can't afford! don's a liar, scammer! and a thief!​​

Consumers beware!…read more He had done a few smaller projects for us before we gave him a larger deck project. We gave him $6k, 50% down and he was supposed to start and be complete within 3 weeks. That was in May, he was supposed to be finished before July 4th. We paid him another $1,300 to get room in the handrail shop too. Although he spent that money elsewhere. Six months later we have a deck that cost more than double what he quoted. He used substandard B deck boards initially, which looked awful considering this is a $12k deck! So, we decided to go with composite, which he quoted to add $3,200 less an $800 credit for the deck boards. It ended up costing more than $7k for the composite. He just doesn't know how to do a material take off. We had to reorder material four times!!! Plus he ran out of money causing us to purchase the remainder of the framing material to finish the job. We also still do not have handrails because he said he could get them done for $1,400, and all quotes are coming in at $6k-$12k. And since he didn't extend the framing for the original cable railing he quoted, we are stuck using surface mounted railing. He also walked off the job when it was about 50% complete because we wouldn't give him anymore $ until he was finished, per his contract! He extorted money from us to come back. But we were so far behind on $ at that point we didn't have an option. Plus nobody wants to finish up someone else's work. In the end, the deck is very nice. His workmanship is good, which is why he gets two stars instead of one. After he finished with the deck, he wanted an additional $1,500. He did some small changes we asked for. But from my calculations he owed us money. Not wanting the hassle we settled on $500. Plus he got a rebate on the composite material that we paid for!! Which he neglected to tell us until we offered it to him as payment. Not very honest indeed! Then I asked him to build a platform for our fire pit, which was included in his original quote, and he wanted another $350 for labor. We have the material left over from the fourth composite order!! For some reason he thinks that his labor is worth much more than it is. No thank you Mr Carpenter. I'll spend my money elsewhere. We also found out that the smaller projects he did for us before the deck were also substandard. He didn't replace insulation in our crawlspace as he said nor did he use insulation behind the switch plates he changed out for us. Also he was supposed to insulate upstairs behind knee wall and ceilings, but didn't. Lessons learned!! Never give $ up front unless you have several positive references. It's best to buy the material yourself when working with these smaller companies.
