7-31-24 10AM Came to this location for the removal of malignant melanoma I have on my back. They had plenty of parking out front and once inside they promptly take you at your scheduled time. The doctor explains what she will be doing and how large an area she will be covering. In two weeks I get the stitches removed at their Bluffton location and follow up every three months for the next year to do total body screening. They are very thorough in their approach and feel confident that I am in good hands at that they removed everything as it was caught early. read more

Dont go here Dr Traywick butcherd me and took out a cancer spot on my back and she didnt put enough stiches in and it opened after 2 weeks. I am now left with a huge open deep hole , next to my spine. She didnt want to help me or see me. She refused to close it back up and was so arrogant and rude to me. She literally said oh well . Every year for decades I have had a problem, I see a Dermotologist, they test to see If I have hepotitus and if I don't I get another years perscription. With May River, they want labs, and more labs and you give them the results, then they want them sent via internet, then they say they didn't get them, but, oh yeah eventually they admit they do, then the Dr you had an appt with is on vacation so you need to change you appointment and we need new labs and we need to see you ever few months...... They just want to keep billing your insurance and it's a real hassle to get anything done. The woke questions when you check in like "What sex were you ASSIGNED at birth? - Really? No time for the mental health idiocies of the gender identity politics. Just find a better provider. read more

Top quality Care! I have been going to this practice for 5 years. This is one of the finest, most well run practices on Hilton Head. The office has always run smoothly and professionally. Dr Hall is phenomenal! My wife sees another Dr in the office and is equally pleased. But here's a tip - this practice is very popular and has many patients to see. It can take some time for your first appointment. But once you're in, you're in! I keeping my 6 month appointments scheduled a year out. They allow that. But trust me, it's worth the wait. Side note* For me, someone that leaves a crappy 1 star review that has never been to the practice, has no credibility whatsoever. read more

After several visits to May River to include a MOS surgery that I am not fully satisfied with ,based on scarring that I did not expect, I will no longer go to May River for Skin care based on my last visit / non visit. I was late for my appointment by 15 minutes and the PA refused to see me. I have sat in the waiting room at all of my Dr's including May River more times than I can possibly count well over 15 minutes. In fact I have sat in the very waiting room were I was refused service for well over 15 minutes on my last check-up. But the one time I get turned around after missing the turn driving to the office in Bluffton from Hilton Head (where they never have availability) I am refused service. I happened to sit in my Heart Dr's waiting room the day before for over an hour after my scheduled appointment, they apologized I said it was Ok I understand things happen, and we proceeded to have a positive check up experience. Well for the May River Dermatologists I guess things can't happen and god forbid you miss a turn causing you to be a bit late in Bluffton traffic. More concerning my MOS surgery is the only time I saw an actual Doctor instead of a PA. I have a long history of fending off skin cancer including countless rounds of Efudix applications, prior MOS surgeries, including removal of Lymphoma related growths and May River despite having my history only believes a PA should be involved in my skincare unless aDoctor can make $ on a MOS surgery. I get it you should not be late and my being late would more than likely cause someone else to wait (by the way no one was in the waiting room waiting for an appointment) but just as we make accommodations when things happen and sit in a Dr's waiting room they should be doing the same. I questioned the level of care at May River prior to this incident this just solidified my impression that they are a money first care second practice and I will be seeking care else where and recommend you do the same! read more

Even though it took me nine months to get seen for my first appointment, I was very pleased with the PA that I saw and with the physician that ended up doing some surgery on a pre-cancerous spot on my hand. Very friendly front staff and nurse. I was seen on time. no complaints at all! read more

It is always a pleasant experience going to May River. The staff is very professional and caring. Today I saw Dr. Brant who is temporarily helping In the practice. He was terrific with great patient manner. He is retired and only with them a short time but I wish he would stay longer. Dr. Treywick is also so thorough but has such a busy schedule. Too bad they can't clone her . I feel in good hands with the PAs though. read more

Dr.Carrie Hall is the best. She is very thorough while keeping your visit lighthearted. She told me if my insurance tried to charge me more than $200 for her prescribed medication to call her & she would have the drug compounded. Sure enough insurance wanted $350. I called her, she had it compounded at Ulmer's for $35.00 I wouldn't see any other doctor at May River except Carrie Hall. read more

After waiting over a month and a half for an appointment, mine was cancelled and a date later offered. I asked to be put on a waiting list to be called when cancellations happen, even though I'd been told they don't do that for new patients. I asked again thinking they should since they canceled my appointment. That didn't happen. All of happened earlier this week. I just found out today that a friend who has never been there called yesterday and got an appointment tomorrow. I'm upset after waiting so long..I have an issue that their office had been made aware of. Shame on their lazy front desk...I plan on going to Urgent Care while I look for a professional office. read more

Recently I had to take my wife to the Port Royal office for a skin biopsy. Well, the receptionist was coughing like she had a real problem, in addition she was outwardly rude when I indicated I was with my wife. She ordered me out of the office and yelled "wait in the car". You would be wise to educate your staff members in social skills along with a bit more respect for paying customers, which I am one. read more

I was satisfied with visit until I went to collect drugs at pharmacy and found that Dr Bonaccorsi has prescribed drugs that are $1500 a month instead of my prior $60. Here is the whole story: Had to find a new dermatologist due to new insurance plan, needed refills on Rx for mild skin condition, and went to May River based upon internet ratings and credentials of doctors. All was pretty efficient: appointment for 10 days after calling, submitted medial history online, on day of visit waited perhaps 5 mins in waiting room, and Dr Bonaccorsi saw me within another 10 minutes. Dr was nice, examined me thoroughly, asked questions of Rx history, and discussed efficacy of options. Dr made a couple of recommendations, and nurse submitted Rx to my pharmacy electronically. Entire visit took 35 minutes. All I was given when I left was a receipt for $40 copay. I had no idea that these prescribed drugs were so expensive - and so much more than what I had been taking - because the new drugs are simply variants of my old ones. Certainly the doctor knows what these drugs cost but never mentioned anything. Why does a doctor prescribe such crazily expensive drugs for a common, mild condition when there are much cheaper alternatives? In reading up on the issue, it is clear that the dermatology world is extremely cognizant of drug prices, as price increases have hit dermatology possibly more than any other specialty. Many doctors go out of their way to provide coupons and samples, or they prescribe cheaper alternatives, but unfortunately this did not happen with May River and Dr Bonaccorsi. read more

When you get to a certain age it seems as though you spend most of your time in a doctor's office, having yet another test, or waiting at the local drugstore for your new prescription to be filled. I am not the most patient person in the world, so those occurrences tend to frustrate me. But there is one startling exception; May River Dermatology. Case in point. This morning, itching like mad, I realized I needed a refill for a medicated cream I take. I logged onto their outstanding website and placed my order. Within the next two hours, someone from the office called to say they had contacted the drugstore, and they in turn called to say my order was ready for pickup. Less than two hours! Disappointing experience. Prescheduled virtual appointment cancelled by May River staff; they rescheduled my son's appointment as a face to face appointment at a satellite office 1 hr 20 minutes from our home. I took 1/2 day off work and traveled to the dermatology office. Stood outside in the heat waiting for receptionist to let us in the building. Receptionist eventually made her way to the locked door, checked my son's temperature with a cheap, plastic thermal thermometer and stated it registered high and we would not be allowed to enter building and would need to reschedule appointment. I am a home health nurse who takes temperature readings all day and had superior thermometer in my vehicle. I initially asked her to recheck his temperature a second time or allow me to retrieve my (superior) thermometer from the car so she could obtain a second reading. She refused -stating the practice has a policy that "temperatures are only allowed to be checked once." As my son and I returned to the car and rechecked his temperature with the superior, more accurate thermometer we got readings 97.3, 97.6, 97.5. We traveled 1 1/2 hour back home after a wasted afternoon and are making a concerted effort to find a new practice that values its patients and their time. And has some ability to devise policies that are logical. read more

May River Dermatology is great. Dr. Carrie Hall is my dermatologist. She is extremely thorough, answers all questions, and is interested in the general well being of her patients. The staff is very competent and welcoming. Appointment schedule are very well maintained. Never more than a 15 minute wait, but when you are her patient she gives you all the time you need. read more

If you enjoy waiting 45 mins or more past your appointment time for every appoint and really love walk g into a room that hasn't been cleaned from the prior patient, then THIS is the place for you... We hate it but sadily we have no other options. Stay away if you can. read more

I was a brand new patient. I went in to have a spot on my chest looked at. I never saw a DR only a nurse practitioner. He spent literally 5 minutes w me. He never examined any part of my body but the spot I showed him. He froze the spot & left. No instructions, what to expect nothing. He said if it "comes back" call us. I was charged $236 for this "wonderful" service. $103 for the freeze & $133 for the "new patient visit" That would have been fine if they actually examined as a new patient. When I called billing to complain it was basically "sir thats what we do, if you wanted a full body examine you should have asked" I was also told by billing that the "doctor" was booked solid for 3 months I should not have expected to see her. Of course I was not told this when booking the appt. Would highly recommend seeing another practice. This one will make you feel like you are a number on a treadmill. read more
