I've have been a patient of this office for a long time. It is hard to get into their office for an appointment. I've tried many times to get them to send the RIGHT paperwork for a preauth to my insurance but they never do, so I gave up even trying. All Dr. Thomas cares about telling patients what to eat and watch some documentary. She acts more like a nutritionist than an actual Neurologist. She NEVER listens to me when I talk about my concerns. It's not worth paying the insane about she charges just to be told what to eat. It's the biggest waste of time trying to get in and talk about actual neurological issues. PLEASE DON'T waste your time & money going to this clinic. My primary care doctor ordered a sleep study that I had in June 2021 that was overnight in a hospital. I saw Dr. Thomas in August 2021 to go over the sleep study results. Not only did her office never bother to retrieve the results prior to my appointment (which cost me over $800 after insurance), she then refused to attempt to get them and instead ordered a new at-home sleep study. I cooperated and received a home sleep test in September 2021. The results came back that my blood oxygen is "alarmingly" low at night and they submitted an order for a CPAP device. I was told the wait for the equipment would be long since there were some equipment recalls. Nearly two months passed. I called to check the status and discovered that they indeed had never submitted the referral or the fax never went through. They blamed Intermountain Home Healthcare & Hospice for the mixup saying that "they do this to us all the time." Yet if they know there is a problem, one would assume they'd follow up and make sure the provider actually received their fax. They do not. And yes, in 2022 their office still does everything by faxes. It took weeks of calling before Intermountain ever was able to receive the equipment followed by months of delays to get the CPAP device. With each successive appointment, Dr. Thomas recommends very expensive herbal supplements for which she receives commissions. Benesom, Adaptocrine, Gut-specific fish oil, megapre capsules, megaspor biotic capsules, magnesium glycinate, vitamin k2, plus some huge multivitamins that require that you take EIGHT pills per day. The photo of the pills attached is just the multivitamin. Altogether, I'm to take fistfulls of pills every day. All of these would cost over $300/month. And to make matters worse, she is at least 45 minutes to an hour late for every single appointment that I've had with her (and even has a sign on her front desk advertising this fact - attached). Fast forward to July 19, 2022. Despite being told that my blood oxygen was alarmingly low at night and that I may need supplemental oxygen (almost a full year ago!!!), I still have no treatment for sleep apnea other than an insane collection of vitamins and herbal supplements. It has been over a year since the initial sleep study, and I'm still left with no treatment. An alternate sleep machine was ordered months ago and, like before, their office failed to send a referral for the equipment for weeks after my appointment and I had to do the daily calls to nag to get my equipment. Supposedly I have been having major health problems for the last year and I'm left to wonder if any of it is from untreated sleep apnea. The thing that is prompting me to finally leave a negative review today is that I've always wondered what happened with the results from my initial sleep study. I was at an appointment with my cardiologist this week and she was following up with me on medical conditions and asked me what I was doing to treat my sleep apnea. I told her about the horrific runaround I've been getting with Dr. Thomas and how I still didn't have records from my first sleep study. Within 2 minutes, she read my results to me. Turns out my initial sleep study was before getting covid and I had no sleep apnea. Second study was post-covid within a couple of weeks of my infection and I had terrible sleep apnea reported in the sleep study. I may have been waiting over a year for treatment that I might no longer need as it is possible that the apnea was just related to stress on my lungs from covid. But if I keep going to Dr. Thomas, I'll never figure this out. I will only be a means for her to prescribe supplements, not treat me. Save yourself the time and trouble and see a provider that will do more than just prescribe supplements for extra commission. I've been seeing Maya Thomas since 2013, primarily because I keep forgetting to find a new neurologist around the time my Medical form for the DMV comes due. Maya Thomas' staff have to be some of the worst in the state. Just today, I was told by one of her staff that I was being discharged as a patient because I called in to chew them out for requesting labs for the wrong medication. I was also told I wouldn't be able to get my drivers form signed off and my appointment would have to be rescheduled for not getting my bloodwork done. This is the first time since seeing her in 2013 that they have pulled a stunt like this. On top of this, they can never seem to get their information straight. Outside of her staff, Maya Thomas tries to be a nutritionist and push CPAP machines while seeing people for Epilepsy. Each time I have gone in previously, I get a lecture on how I need to eat more naturally and was even recommended watching some fluff documentary about eating natural. Dr. Thomas was extremely judgmental and could care less about listening to her patients concerns. Horrible bedside manner and not personable at all. The most unprofessional doctor that I've ever been to. Dr. Thomas, including her staff, are impossible to get a hold of. Phone calls are never returned. Show-up for appointments and they do not care if they are behind, even over 45 minutes with no explanation. I am taking time out of MY busy schedule, yet this office could care less for convenience and being on-time. Dr. Thomas, and her support staff of nurses, never listen to a patient concerns. Dr. Thomas is an absolute crackpot of a doctor, I was referred to her for my sleep troubles. During my visit, she dismissed my concerns over my sleep troubles and insisted I try to conform to a sleep schedule that disrupts my natural pattern. I set up a sleep study with her anyways and did blood labs that pointed out my hormone-related medical issues, I explained I was being treated by my endocrinologist, and she continued to try to convince me to take a "naturopathic" approach, saying doctors these days over-rely on prescription medications and finally prescribe me a super shady book/lecture series and a "prescription" to a sketchy supplement website. My time with Dr. Thomas was very beneficial and my medical concern was addressed. With that being said, the staff in the office are probably some of the worst I've experienced going to several medical clinics. They always seem very disorganized and often times rude. What really is the most frustrating thing about this office is the lack of communication. They never seem to be able to pick up the phone. When you send emails through the online portal they never follow up. I understand it's healthcare but a simple response to an email would do wonders. I would personally recommend Dr. Thomas. But with how poor the communication and staff seem to be, I would STRONGLY encourage others to seek healthcare somewhere else. I don't often write reviews and almost never do negative ones, but I am so done with this clinic. It has been so incredibly frustrating, I really should have given up a long time ago, but I just didn't want to start over. My initial appt for a sleep study was actually scheduled fairly quickly and I got my results and set with a CPAP within about a month. Only here is the thing. I don't have sleep apnea. I went for exhaustion and to rule out sleep apnea. When I met with Dr Thomas, she was really sweet and seemed to know what she was talking about. My sleep study showed that I had almost no sleep disturbances (0.2 if any at all a night). There was a possibility that I had narcolepsy. Well, that struck me as being kind of a big deal. When I went back for my first follow up after using the CPAP for 30 days as requested, it again showed no signs of sleep apnea and the PA was very dismissive. She basically told me I had sleep apnea again, which I don't. I pushed back and finally got her to read over Dr Thomas' notes from our previous visit. I wanted to follow up with the possible narcolepsy. Dr Thomas finally came in and agreed that would be a good option. The follow up test is supposed to be an MSLT. Which again required me to wear the CPAP for another 30 days. Which I did. I scheduled my MSLT about 6 weeks out so I could get work off, arranged child care so I could be there all day, get the blood tests done (to prove I am not taking anything to make myself sleepy, WHY WOULD I DO THAT?!). I confirmed my portion of the cost once again with the girl in the office. Well the Friday before the test, TODAY, I get called and told it will be another $200 on top of the $630 I have to pay for the test. I don't have another $200 that I can find in the next 3 days, so I have to cancel. Keep in mind I've been paying for a CPAP machine I didn't need for sleep apnea that I don't have for the last 7 months. I would call the office and complain but if you've ever tried to them you'd know, it is almost impossible to talk to someone. You have to leave a message and maybe they'll call you back. Or I'd make an appointment but they are ALWAYS running behind and I've never waited less than 45 min AFTER my appt was supposed to have started, to be seen. Once I left before my visit was complete because I had been gone from work too long. I can't even put into words how exhausted and defeated I feel after jumping through so many hoops only to have the rug pulled out from under me time and time again. I would not recommend this office to anyone. And since I was referred by my physician, I will let him know as well that he may want to consider sending people elsewhere. read more

For a being a licensed Neurologist, Dr Thomas is only interested in selling CPAP machines. If she can't sell you a CPAP, she isn't interested in helping you. The sleep studies aren't scored by a human being, but rather a computer. Computers can't always interpret them accurately. Never mind the ethical dilemma; she informs you of high AHI numbers (on hand written forms) so she can then sell you CPAP machine and equipment. Definitely a conflict of interest! Decided to get a second opinion at the U of U sleep wake center and have real doctors giving me official reports and printouts, as well as medical referrals and other alternatives if I don't like wearing a mask.
