My wife and I were in the area and found ourselves starving around 1:30 pm on a Thursday and we happened to come across Mayas Grill in Palm City. It looked pretty promising from the outside. Upon walking in we noticed an extremely strong odor of bleach or perhaps some other type of cleaning substance. It was very off putting and we considered walking out. However, the place was only about half full and we were so hungry that we decided to stay. Other than the bleach odor, the atmosphere was in keeping with the Mexican motif. After waiting at the hostess station almost five minutes which is always a bad sign, a server eventually appeared and sat us in a booth. After perusing the menu for a couple of minutes we were ready to order but no server in sight. Finally, after about 10 minutes a server stopped by and asked us for our drink order. Of course there were no chips and salsa in her hands as there usually is in other Mexican restaurants we visit. We told her we were ready to order (I didn't want to let her get away). My wife ordered the luncheon chimichanga which, at $10.25 seemed a little pricey for a lunch order. I went with the chicken fajitas luncheon for $11.25 which also seemed a bit high for the lunch portion. A few minutes later our server (Danielle) appeared with some fresh chips and watery salsa. We live in the Orlando area and most of the nearby Mexican restaurants charge a couple of dollars less for the same lunch items. After about 15 minutes our food arrived and I must say that the portions were quite generous so I do believe we received good value for what was paid. We didn't order any alcoholic drinks but just stuck with Diet Coke and water. The food was okay but nothing special. Both of our orders were a bit on the bland side but being so hungry we really didn't care. All in all, everything was acceptable but based on the very slow service I don't think we'll be returning the next time we're in the area. read more

The service was incredibly slow even though there weren't many people in the place. We actually had to flag someone down every time we wanted something. Our waitress was sweet, but totally aloof. The place was pretty clean, but when someone came to wipe down the table, she wiped it towards me. LOL. I don't think it was intentional, just a lack of experience. The food was good, but not especially memorable. I had the crab enchiladas. There wasn't much crab in them, so it was a lot of tortilla and sauce. Meh. Only have had 1 bad experience in almost 2 years of going here. The food is great, they are always busy, and the prices are good. If I could change anything is they need 1 extra person staffed on a normal day just to help the waiters/waitresses. My bad experience was when they only had 1 person working period!!! That was in the front/bar/and cooking. He didn't know what to do and couldn't handle it. We walked out after 40 minutes (and we didn't get any drinks or chips) and so did 2 other tables. It was so sad and disappointing. The waiter was seating everyone who came thru the door but he didn't go back again to speak with the table. Mayas' food is stellar and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. The staff and managers are friendly; overall noteworthy customer service. We had veggie fajitas which were loaded with 5 different kinds of veggies seasoned and grilled to perfection. Mixed with rice, 2 kinds of beans, guac, pico, and a little sour cream in a tortilla, the dish was exceptional. The serving size is heaping; hence we have lunch for tomorrow all set. We read the reviews before stopping in, so I brought a sweater and prepared to wait. At 7PM on a Friday (off-season), I didn't need to have done either. The service was fast and friendly, the margaritas were a good balance of alcohol and flavor, and the enchiladas lagunas were delicious (and HUGE). Excellent Mexican food! We were recommended this place by a family member so we decided to check it out. We were greeted and seated immediately which was awesome! The place is clean and decorated authentically. We ordered Long Island ice teas and water. And the Long Islands had to be sent back because they were undrinkable. The chips and salsa arrived and boy were they good. We ordered Queso and that was also very good! The chips seemed homemade and are not out of a bag! We got our new drinks (mojito & a Bahama mama) which weren't excellent but definitely better. I ordered the Tacos traditional 2 carnitas and 1 chicken and my boyfriend ordered the super burrito. We also ordered a to go order to take to a family member. My tacos were a bit soggy from the plate being so hot! The carnitas were delicious best pork I've had in a while. Chicken was a bit dry. The rice and beans were amazing! My boyfriend said the burrito was good but wouldn't make a special trip for it. So here's the kicker....they forgot our to go order!!! And since it was closing time they had already turned everything off. So we had to order Chinese food for him from across the street. Our waitress wasn't very compassionate or caring when she realized she had dropped the ball with putting in our to go order. That just totally ended the experience in a negative way. I read everyone's reviews upon going, and I must say they are pretty accurate. We went at 2pm on a Sunday and there were only two front house staff working. The food wad actually pretty great, had the chimichanga, definitely recommend! The extremely slow service, even with only 3 other tables was what made this experience not so great. It took me yelling to the waitress who wouldn't look our direction, to get drink refills. Even with 3 other tables she acted like she was put out that we could possibly want more to drink. It really bothers me when a server acts like that the entire meal, but when it comes to bringing the check out, all of a sudden she's friendly and attentive... ya know, hoping for a great tip. Flavor abounds and the menu is HUGE! This is a big restaurant with lots of space and a full bar. Vegetarians rejoice because we have our own section. Spinach enchiladas are scrumptious and the veg burrito is a fresh and flavorful option for those not looking to gorge themselves. There's also a vegetarian chimicanga, tostada salad, and chili rellenos. The margaritas are magnificent and the ambience is awesome. This is about as authentic as it gets for Mexican food. Great friendly staff inside a spotlessly clean restaurant. The menu is unbelievable and has a great selection of dishes. Mexican places are hit or miss...there rarely is one in between. This was a HIT for us. We had a group of 20 that they sat right away. They accommodated is without complaint. I read that the service was poor. I have to disagree. For such a large party they got all the food correct even with the little requests...the only miss was the refills. Food was delicious! We went on a Friday night around 7:30pm. When we walked in there was not a hostess where a hostess should be. We had to ask twice for the hostess. We were finally seated within 10 minutes and were immediately given chips and salsa. The salsa was good. It had a more tomato-ey base which I tend to enjoy. My mom also ordered the queso dip which was pretty good. All of us enjoyed margaritas but they were a little pricey at $6.25 a pop. I got the Temple Tacos which were also good. The tacos came with a slice of avocado on each taco. The onions and bell peppers could have used more cooking too. But overall it wasn't bad. My sister got chicken taquitos which she said were good too. Again, a little pricey at 2.50 per taquito. The service was sub-par. I know it was a busy night but it seemed like the waitress was running around like a chicken with her head cut off. This used to be my favorite Mexican restaurant until tonight's dinner July 28,2017 as their salsa was awful and had a tingling sharp flavor to it as I just read up on bad salsa taste that comes from it spoiling from a gas forming bacteria. They also skimped on the Sangria as there was no way it contained alcohol because not only was it weak,we used to get a buzz from the very first drink. This place is really a 2 1/2 star. The frozen margarita was great. With that said I'll be back for one or two of those! The food was average. My other half and I spilt the combo fajitas. The shrimp and chicken were good but lacked flavor and a little over cooked and the steak was just terrible. The chips and salsa were not good. The chips tasted like cardboard while the salsa tasted like spicy Old El Paso. The verde salsa was just disgusting! The rice was good and so was the guac. But since when does cheese not come with fajitas? Overall if your looking for Mexican food but not picky this is your place. Myself on the other hand is still longing for Pappasitos.
