The reason to stop at Mayberry Trading Post is to take in a little history and help this place survive. It has a lot going for it that it could really market (and turn itself into a tourist trap in the process) but it operates as a small community "old country store". According to the book "This Old Store" by Aaron McAlexander, there is some thought that the town of Mayberry (see Mount Airy, NC) on the Andy Griffith Show took its name from this community, where Griffith had relatives. The last time I was in, during the local Peach Festival in 2016, they had a couple long tables with t-shirts and sweatshirts sporting a drawing of the store but there were not a lot of souvenir type items like you would find in a store of this type that has been fully commercialized. Still, it is right on the Blue Ridge Parkway and is an easy stop.

Stopped here while driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The store has been completely renovated and it is beautiful. The story of the family that has owned this place since 1800s is very interesting. Well worth a visit. read more

We visited Floyd's Country store and the Mayberry Trading Post. If I had to pick one to do it would be the Mayberry Trading Post. It gives you more the feels of an old country store. Love that the sell items from local artists. Candy here is $5.99 a pound...Floyd chargers $8.99. read more

First a warning. Sadistic GPS mapping systems -- I'm talking to you, Google Maps -- will send you up Mayberry Creek Road (607) if you are coming from the Southeast. This is a BIG MISTAKE. The road is very narrow and if you meet a car coming the other direction you will have trouble finding a place to pull off. If you meet a 'honey wagon,' (big truck hauling manure) as we saw going downhill, there is no place to pass and one of you is going to have to back up a loooog way. Approach instead from the north using the Blue Ridge Parkway. The store is a snapshot in time. It's not WaWa. You can find locally made crafts - surprisingly expensive in some cases - and get a feeling for what a general store looked like at the turn of the 19th Century. Bathrooms are heated, which was nice since it was below freezing when we were there. The woman inside was very welcoming and didn't pester us while we wandered about. I don't know if I would recommend a special trip to see it, but if you're in the neighborhood it's worth a stop. Particularly if you like supporting local businesses with local charm. read more

This place is awesome! Yes it is a place that time forgot and that is the charm. It is just off the blue ridge parkway in the middle of know where. Ran by the sweetest elderly lady! Chat to her she is so cool. She was knitting amazing blankets as I walked in. A great selection of homemade honey, jams and preserves. Don't buy brand name snacks , the point of this place is the nick knacks and souvenirs. I bought the most beautiful handmade denim throw (see pic) only $55, I'm obsessed! I wish they had more, she said she was working on another :) Trading post... Never change.... You're amazing read more

Check the drinks and snacks dates. A good majority that I picked up were expired by more than a year. I actually found a bag of peanuts that expired in 2010. Not worth the stop from parkway. Just pass it by. Very dingy, dirty, poorly lit. Most of counter space is filled with tee shirts and sweatshirts promoting this run down business. Building needs to be condemned how far its leaning over. read more
