My husband and I went to see First Date in February when it was playing. Show was decent but not what I would say memorable. It is one of those cute Valentine's type of shows that they play that time of year. Fairly predictable but enjoyable. The service we recieved was excellent considering that it was a buffet but the servers were attentive and our water and wine glasses were always topped up. Buffet is large and extensive. I normally dislike buffets but here they are well executed. Salad bar, a small seafood session (didn't enjoy the sushi rolls), cheese section. What has changed is instead of the prime rib station was replaced with a striploin and beef brisket station. I tried a piece of each. They were certainly not stingly. I am surprised on how much I enjoyed the striploin. But for a girl that doesn't like sweets, I love the Mayfield dessert choices. They are bite size so you can try a selection. I always get the rice pudding. So for a fairly predictable night out for both food and entertainment, which you won't be blown away but you won't be disappointed, try here. read more

We have been going annually to the Mayfield for our wedding anniversary for over 10 years now. Until now, we have been very happy with our choice, except perhaps for the time they did improv. This year, we happened to go the first week of the new season, Simon and Garfunkle. The show was excellent, the two singers channelling Paul Simon and Art Garfunkle perfectly. The only fault I could find with the show was that the drums were inappropriately loud. I have S&G vinyl that I just played to prove that my memories of the 60's are quite correct: The drums on the original are very subdued. The likely cause is that the program had a long resume for the drummer. Likely his ego was as puffed up as his resume. Where we were disappointed was with the dinner. It's always a buffet and excellent if you arrive as soon as the doors open. This time, we chose the brisket from the carvery and found it quite dry. The baked desserts were stale, as if they had been saved for the month the MDT was closed. Everything elsa was freshly made, salads and the items on the steam tables. Another problem was with the air conditioning. My wife complained that it was too cold in the theatre and was told that nothing could be done about it. Thankfully, the staff brought her a fuzzy warm blanket that she was able to wrap around herself. Before the show started, I looked around and another man in short sleeves was wrapped up as well. There had been a late summer heat wave which would have required cooling one or two nights before. The MDT should have been able to adapt more quickly. Hopefully when our anniversary rolls around next year, the MDT will be back on its game. read more

Been here a few times to see various shows,, the buffet is excellent!! Everything is so well prepared and presented. A very organized buffet with a good variety of to choose from at every station.. I have never been disappointed!! The shows are great , bring a small plate of fruit and desserts when the show starts!! Service is great!! Had the opportunity to catch the last day of Rock of Ages 2023 for the brunch show with my mama. I love the Mayfield Theater in general, but this performance was absolutely exceptional. This is actually my third time seeing this musical, and once was in New York.... This third time was absolutely incredible. I was blown away by the talent in this show. It was a high quality ensemble of incredibly gifted performers. The brunch buffet had a lot of variety. There was lots to choose from, and everything seemed fresh. My only complaint was the coffee was pretty terrible. Our server was attentive and ensured we had everything we needed. Mayfield Theater will always be a top notch Edmonton experience for me. read more

Went here for the first time for my mother's birthday. You can email then an announcement to put up on the TVs for "silent announcements" that are done via slide show format during dinner. We did "Happy Birthday name", others were "Welcome Northern Lights Walking Group", "Happy Anniversary name", etc. Website is easy to use and purchase tickets. There is a ~$15 processing fee that is charged whether you buy online OR via phone. Tickets were ~$125 per person so quite pricey compared to St albert Dinner Theatre and Jubilations in West Ed Mall. We were at table 104 which turned out to be a booth. 1 of us had to sit awkwardly due to the booths angle but 3/4 seats were very comfortable. Easy to find via Google Maps. Lots of parking on the south side of the building. No big sign at the entrance/from the road saying you are at the right place but there is a big sign above the south-facing entrance door. Place was only 40%full this night. Doors really do not open until 5:30PM so do not bother coming too early. And with so much parking I did not have to worry about finding a stall. And FREE parking too! Buffet is open right at 5:30PM as well and open until exactly 7:30PM so we ate for 2 hours! Buffet was awesome. So much variety no matter your food preferences. Loved that there were gloves for use as well as sanitizer as there were a Ton of hands touching everything. We went up ~4 times each. Great dessert selection. BEST was pork shoulder, ravioli, poached shrimp, bean dip and chips, rice pudding, apple crips - in my opinion. Drink menu and dinner menu are posted online so you can browse before and see what you want. My pregnant sister had no trouble finding enough safe foods but did have to have salad without dressing as it all contained raw eggs. Show was 1 Pianos 4 Hands. 12/10 absolutely best show I could have imagined. So funny, witty, and relatable as I used to play piano. 100% will recommend to anyone with musical background or just looking for a fun time. Things of note: Show starts at 7:30PM exactly. The ticket price includes the buffet, coffee, tea and the Dinner Theatre Production. Does not include gratuity of liquor or service. You can pay your bill at intermission during the show so you can actually leave when the show ends! The recommended dress code is business casual: no jeans, t-shirts, or runners. But I feel you probably could get away with black jeans and a nice Tshirt (Don't Quote me!). Photos/videos can only be taken at intermission and during the meal. Overall, quite pricey but definitely the best dinner theatre experience I have had in Edmonton so far. read more

The Mayfield Dinner Theatre has undergone a few renovations over the summer, the room looks great with new tables and chairs . The show we saw was Simon and Garfunkel. It is a great show, one of the best I have seen at the Mayfield. The theatre has a house band that never lets you down, they are super talented and versatile. The two that play Simon and Garfunkel, I understand, have taken this show all over the world. They do a bang up job of portraying the legendary duo. The set design and lighting is very well done. The buffet was excellent, with lots to choose from and something for everyone. Lots of variety, from brisket to akai tuna. Lots of salad fixings too. It is difficult not to over indulge. The service is very good. Friendly and accommodating. So much work the servers do in a short period of time, always pleasant. I highly recommend this show. It is a great night out, worth every penny. read more

I had switched seats with one of my friend, when this rude employee came up to me and said "I saw that your ticket was for another table! leave this one immediately!!" I tearfully tried to explain that I had switched seats with my friend and that I wasn't doing anything illlegal. She would not listen to me. Dinner and a show. *applause please* This is a fantastic local night out. The buffet style food is a full variety from salad bar, several in theme mains, and a smorgasbord of desserts. Who says you can't start with dessert first? I am a sucker for classic rice pudding and those cute little containers they put it in always tempt me right out of the gates - I'll take about 4 to satisfy my rice pudding crave. But they usually serve fresh cut fruit, cookies, squares and cake. In addition to the classic salad bar there is also a sushi bar! Ah yes hello that's where I'll be! Unlimited sushi that is quite good. And I love the themed but very tasty main course foods. I've seen 12 hour brisket, chicken, and fish all served at the same mains station so plenty of meat! Plus there is always the Yorkshire pudding and gravy you gotta hit. Service was decent, I felt like the staff was in a bit of a rushed mood the last couple times I've been (both post Covid). But my empty plates are always picked up fast so I can go get more food. I've ordered a bottle of peach wine a couple times now as it's decently priced and very tasty. And if you don't finish the bottle they have stoppers they can send you home with the rest of the bottle....our servers let us struggle trying to think of a way to jam the cork back in our bottle before finally coming over and saying something. And the theatre shows are very well done! Most recently I went to the History of Country music and it was so entertaining and knowledge filled. And I hit the Piano one as well- it wasn't duelling pianos exactly but a history of two pianists (lots of piano musician jokes and memories) and very entertaining. *Encore* The parking is spacious as it's part of the Double Tree Hotel and easy access to the main road. I find leaving isn't a super bad gong show so once the show is over you don't have a crazy long wait to get out! read more

"Las Vegas Live" Mayfield Dinner Theatre, Edmonton, Alberta Having been to Las Vegas numerous times, I was excited to have "Las Vegas Live" come to the Mayfield Dinner Theatre. Memories of sparkling dance revues, celebrities, and bright lights came to mind. As part of a captive audience, I was surprised that the spotlight was continually pushing the LBGTQ+ agenda. The jokes were foul and the gestures suggestive. This dark theme overshadowed an otherwise talented musical performance. I have always been a fan of the Mayfield Dinner Theatre, bringing my entire family to fabulous performances and delicious buffets. I would not recommend this show to families, but would consider it to be bordering on "Adult" entertainment. In future, I will carefully screen any shows at the Mayfield, and opt for "family friendly" venues instead. read more

Nashville Outlaws was tons of fun. The cast and crew put on a marvellous show. The buffet was Ok. Hubby says the Yorkshire puddings are the best he's had. I lean towards vegetarian ( no red meat and low fat diet, ugh!) and there were plenty of options. No one should go hungry! The oatmeal cookies are a great way to round out the meal. I find there is a lack of spice / seasoning in the food, but that's what keeps most of the people happy. It's a buffet, so there are always those who value quantity over all else. I still give it 5 stars for the selection of salads and fresh fruit. The deconstructed Crab Louie was a nice treat. We always enjoy the service. The servers are incredibly friendly and helpful. The bus staff keeps the tables clean. Top marks in this department. read more

We come for the shows but stay for the well-appointed buffet. The first thing one sees upon entering are the publicity head-shots from all the years gone by. There are a lot of familiar faces, so please take the time to find your favorites. The table seating is pretty good; it's hard to have a bad view of the stage. The buffet is laid out with two mirrored offerings with a carvery in the center. There's something for everyone, from keto to sweet tooth, fish, meat, vegetables, pasta, desserts. I've had several chats with the chef de cuisine and have walked away each time pleased with his competence and enthusiasm. The shows are very off-Broadway, but that lends a homey touch to the goings-on. I'm looking forward to our next visit to the Mayfield Dinner Theatre. read more

It is a decent dinner theatre. First off the food selection is amazing. However none of it was "hot" I admit I tried a bit of everything and at best I would say it was luke warm. Had it been hot it would have been excellent. The service was good not great. The drink selection was good as well and the prices are decent. Now the play was really good! I do prefer the play being broken up by the meal like they do at jubilations rather than 2 hours of eating then 2 hours of play. Thats just a preference though. Came out to the Mayfield Dinner Theatre last night for the opener of #HAIR - and WOW! From start to finish, it was my FAVOURITE night at the Mayfield Yet! From Chef Willie White & Sous Chef Andre's amazing spread and hospitality to the show itself, I could t have asked for a better date night! Where in town can you experience a 5 star buffet with prime rib, a massive variety of seafood, and a dessert bar to die for coupled with Canada's best dinner theatre? The Mayfield Dinner Theatre of course! The set, the music, the cast of Hair was phenomenal! The Broadway musical came alive last night and I am sooooo glad to have had the pleasure to see it! The cast interacted with the audience throughout the show in are ally unique way. And let's not forget the fabulous waitstaff who are there before you even know you need them! I attended the show on Sunday February 18th and had a gentleman with us in a wheelchair. When it was time for him to use the washroom, there was a problem. His wheelchair did not fit through the door of the designated handicap washroom. My friend and I had to get him out of his wheelchair and shuffle him in and then out, very difficult. read more

Would give Mayfield 4.5 stars if I could! I saw 2 musicals at the Mayfield this year; Folkswaggin' and Top of the Pops and both were awesome! The last show I saw before these was also about musicl; 70s music and I remember it being just as great. My mother in law got us tickets for Christmas but had an issue buying them over the phone. She called the toll free number and was to receive a call back but never did. Disappointing as this was the first time the service hasn't been great with the Mayfield. When I called and booked the tickets the person was helpful and friendly. We picked up our tickets the night of the show and there wasn't a line up at the table in the lobby of the dinner theatre. I provided my name and got the tickets to join my husband in the line to go inside. We picked a booth at the back as the seating is more comfortable. The tables and chairs don't face the stage so you move the chair around or view sideways. The table for 2 at the end is better if you move the chair into the aisle. It gets a little cramped in the table area. The booth seating offers a great view even though it's at the back. The buffet set up is great with stations throughout and not just one line. The desserts are at both ends, salads, and hot entrees towards the middle. The outer edges are the carving station, breads and cheese, shrimp cocktail, sushi, and smoked salmon. For both shows, the food was fabulous but I preferred the fare for Folkswaggin'. For the hot entrees, there was chicken and the roasted vegetables were better than for Top of the Pops. Top had turkey and stuffing, and sushi which they didn't have for Folkswaggin'. My favourites were the Yorkshire pudding, sushi, and shrimp cocktail. Everything was clearly labelled and the names of the desserts and the country of origin were included. The staff are efficient to replace empty trays as this isn't easy when you have 450 people going through the buffet. It can get busy but never so crowded that you can't get food. The servers were efficient to get our drink orders, clear our plates, and refill our water, coffee, and tea. We were never left with dirty plates and empty glasses. They are very friendly! The cast and band had many of the same members for both of the shows. Folkswaggin' was set in a pub where Top had the band in the middle and a rotating stage around if for the cast to come and go and sing. I also liked the big screen above the stage area that showed video clips of the bands they were singing. There were side screens with the names of the band/artist and song title. This was used more for the first half of the show. The first half of the show focused on the 60s and 70s music where the second half was newer music but they did jump around a little playing a song or two from the previous decades. The quality of the band is excellent. There were probably 60 songs played in Top and they were able to move fluidly from music of the 60s to present day. Although the cast has their instruments, it's the band behind that is making the music. The cast is fabulous and most of the songs they played the part well but a few were a slight exaggeration. John Bannister was great in both shows and he had fun playing the Queen in Top and made the audience laugh. For me, Kevin Dabbs really stood out in Top with his singing, playing, and behaviours of the artists. He was also great in Folkswaggin'. The show is fun with lots of songs and music and also some comedy and British characters mixed in. I felt they missed one or two prominent British artists though. With 2 hours to enjoy the buffet, and 2 parts for the show with an intermission, it makes for a fun and full 4.5 hours. The washrooms can get busy before show time and during the break but they open the doors and the washrooms in the hotel are available to use too. Would definitely return to see another musical here! read more

Awesome experience overall and highly recommended. You get 2 hours to dine prior to the show. This gives you enough time to settle in and enjoy your meal. 15 mins before they announce that the kitchen will close so you have fair warning. You can also stalk up and eat while the show is on. The food was simply marvellous! There is a large selection to choose from. You can also request a custom meal a few days prior if you have special dietary needs. Most basic drinks are included but alcohol is extra. They have a custom made drink menu for the show with 4 different kinds. They are $12 ea. We were very lucky to snag a private booth that was not shared. This was nice as the booths are a little snug. We had plenty of space for the two of us and it was lovely. It was great to have all that space to stretch out after being SO full from dinner. The service was incredible. Our server was very attentive and rarely needed to be told to fill up on drinks or asked to bring anything. She was very intuitive and always in the area. There is no bad seat in the house. Prior to purchasing my ticket, I went in and was given a quick tour to pick my seat. I thought this was awesome as I don't think many places would do that. I chose the booths in the back and it was perfect. Even though it was listed as the cheaper section, we had an excellent view. I'd gladly book the same spot in the future. The show we saw Back to the 80's was a fun one. They covered a lot of hits from that decade. The actors did a wonderful job and the props were great. If you haven't been to a dinner theatre then you should definitely check it out! read more

The most fun you can have in Edmonton for $100 without getting Herpes. Look. I have a HUGE review below this of a previous show. NOTHING has changed. Service: 5 stars. Food 5 stars. Price 5 stars. This is a review of their most recent production : The 80's Show. How was it? In the words of Bill and Ted "Most Excellent!" A show for all ages, I wouldn't hesitate to put this into any Edmonton tourism guide. They do a Jive Bunny style medley of songs, over 200 songs in 2 hrs! Choruses, hooks and all the melodies.... but they also make sure you "don't stop believing". I was 18 in the 80s and this show definitely brought me right back! To call it a show is tough, because it is LITERALLY song after song after song. (Think Drag show vs Play) There isn't a narrative tale as much as much as an homage to the songs of the 80's. I heaaard, literrallllllly heard so many people say "I LOOOOOOVE THIS sooong!" while singing along. I'd say the only improvement I could add to this amazing venue is to change their audience. Or to break it into a "participation appreciated night" vs "cruise liner " night. It's hard to have an 80's show without singing, dancing or clapping along, yet 80% of their audience was very quiet.(you see what I did their? 80%!) Most of the audience is more into golf clapping then slapping their hands together for "walk this way" . This is sad, when the show tries to get you to "sing along you know the words" .... Still you can't blame the act..., a great experience and a continual favorite in Edmonton.... P.S: Quick Quiz..... Love a good buffet? Love a night out a the theatre? Well now, have I got a place for you! The Mayfield Dinner Theatre is always changing with a rotation of new and classic shows, 2 hours before curtain's up the buffet opens with a plethora of options from roast beef carving stations, to salad bars, sushi, pastas, cheese and meat selections and so much more! And it really is very good. The waitstaff may be the real stars of the show. Over the decades they have cultivated a legion of (mostly women) that are at your table to take drink orders, clean off the plates when you inevitably go in for seconds (or thirds) and keep checking on you and your drink levels with grace and fortitude. I have been in to see a show 3 times now in the last year and every time I am impressed with the level of service. Now for the shows. The actors are good, this isn't Broadway, but they can carry a show and really belt out a tune. Some of the shows are better then others, or perhaps suit certain demographics better then others. I absolutely loved the Beatles, I though 9-5 was ok... though I never saw the Dolly Movie so I kind of didn't know what was going on for the first while. If you have a date night that needs something new and fun, or a group of friends or family, that's even better. It is fun with a group! Definitely give the Mayfield a go. For those who enjoy the music of Simon and Garfunkel, I SINCERELY recommend you going to this production at the Mayfield. I went today and it was excellent. The music was exceptional and the singers portraying them made you forget it wasn't Simon and Garfunkel :-) I don't make this kind of comment often and didn't know where to post it so you all could read it. However, if you can go to see it at the Mayfield, it is WELL worth it. It is like having Simon and Garfunkel holding a concert all these years later for us :-) read more

We were "...blown away..." with the recent Buddy Holly tribute show! Having been regular attendees of the Mayfield Dinner Theatre for more than 40 years, the Buddy Holly show finally motivated us to take the plunge and buy season tickets. Oh, and the food is not only delicious, the variety will not leave anyone hungry - in particular, the very best roast beef (and Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, perfect vegetables, etc.) that only my mother could could do better, but she is happily ensconced in Heaven. So, if you want to be utterly pampered with service and quality food, you could dine at our place (assuming my wife will go along with that), or, you can hop in your car and be completely spoiled with the food and entertainment at the Mayfield Dinner Theatre. I had never been to Mayfield Dinner Theater but I had once been to the dinner theater in WEM. Based on that experience I didn't think dinner theater was my thing. I was lucky enough to get tickets to the latest and greatest shows opening night performance of Hair. As it turns out I was wrong. I love dinner theater. Mayfield dinner theater definately offers a great night on the town. Their tables are set just far enough apart. And the chairs are phenomenal. We got there right at 6 and didn't leave till after 10. Not once did I become uncomfortable in my chair. Enough about that the chairs. The food is were Mayfield really shines. It's buffet style eating but I love buffet. Getting to choose exactly what you want and how much you want. The prime rib was impeccable and the desserts. Oh the desserts. It's unfortunate my stomach isn't as big as my eyes. As for the show well let me tell you it was Broadway worthy. Although probably on a bit of a smaller scale. The actors and actresses really poured their hearts and souls in their amazing performance. The band was spot on with great sound quality throughout the venue. The set was simple but eye catching. Truly I can not wait to find another opportunity to go back and catch another show because believe it or not my friend told me that their other shows are usually even better then Hair! read more

Remember when dinner theatre was considered a kitschy form of entertainment delivered in a gaudy, over-the-top fashion by has-beens, never-were's, and up-and-comers? Well it still is. But kitschy, gaudy, and over-the-top can be fun and the Mayfield Dinner Theatre is fun. VP and I attended the Yelp event here in September 2014 when the Folkswaggin' show was being staged. We had a good enough time that we decided to come back for another show. I also thought it would be interesting to compare the experiences of being here for a Yelp event as opposed to just being a regular customer. I don't review businesses based on their performance at Yelp events. If I enjoy myself at the event, I'll return and write about my second experience there. So this is my second experience there: The show: We came to see Top of the Pops, a show that pays tribute to (or makes fun of, I can't decide which) the British contribution to popular music over the past fifty years. If you're a big music fan you probably won't like anything about the musicals that the Mayfield put on. The performers act more like they're doing Saturday Night Live-style impersonations of the original singers to get a cheap laugh as opposed to emulating their presence and talent. Case-in-point was the part of the show where the Rolling Stones are introduced. It was supposedly still the mid-1960s but the actor was doing 1980s Jagger with the rooster strut and the puffy lips. Jagger was actually more subdued and kind of stone-faced in the '60s. But that's nitpicking, I know. The musicians backing them up are great though. Professional and versatile - able to play all the different styles thrown at them with authenticity. The wait staff were friendly and cheerful as were the staff in the buffet area. There was a diverse selection of food and a wide variety of desserts to choose from. Chef Willy didn't visit out table this time as he did at the Yelp event but that's cool. I came out to the Mayfield Dinner Theatre with some friends for the opening night of HAIR. This was my first time at the Mayfield Dinner Theatre, and it did not disappoint!! The buffet was delicious and some of my friends had wonderful tips (ie treat plate for the show). I can't remember the last time I ate that much food, but it was soooooo worth it! The prime rib, yorkshire pudding and entire dessert table were easily my favorites. I really enjoyed the show. I've only ever been to Jubilations before, so this was a different experience for me. I loved how there was a band on stage so everything was live instead of singing to music playing in the background. They also had a great stage set up and lots of room to walk around between the tables, it didn't feel too cramped at all. I can not wait for my next visit!! read more

Wow! Great times were had with my friends at the Mayfield Dinner Theatre. I haven't been here in over 10 years and I am glad I came back to enjoy an evening of musical theater. I am not a big buffet lover because the quality of food often lacks but this buffet was most delicious! There was so much variety to choose from. You had your salad bar with your greens and noodle based salads, your cold cuts of meats and cheeses, bread, a mix of meat and seafood to choose from such as pork tenderloin, chicken, prime rib, basa, and a shrimp szechuan dish, and your carbs such as Mediterranean Pasta, potatoes and such. Oh! and the Yorkshire Pudding! Can't forget that one since it is probably the best I have had! And when you were finished sampling all of that, you have this amazing spread of desserts such as panna cotta, rice pudding, cheesecake, cookies, torte, raspberry mouse cake and the most delicious mouth watering apple crumble with strawberries. I had a food baby to say the least once I was all done. The service was excellent. The staff were very attentive and I felt that we were well taken care of. Hair is the show that is playing until the middle of June that is set in the late 60's during the Vietnam war. We were there for opening night. Although I really wasn't a fan of the play, the production of it was great. The actors are very talented, the choreography was awesome and the singing was wonderful. I guess I was expecting to hear more of those classic tunes from that era that we all know so well that speak to love, peace, drugs and rockin roll. But we still had fun groving in our seats. For a night out, this is the place to go! You can get a buffet dinner and show tickets for under $100 a person on a weeknight and just over $100 on a weekend. The Mayfield Dinner Theatre buffets opens at 6:00 to 7:30. There are dishes made with locally purchased ingredients, ranging from different salads, smoked salmon, shrimp, pork, chicken, prime rib and of course dessert. The selection is amazing, even the sous chef was out greeting the guests and asking if you have any questions about the food. They also feature special drinks based on the show playing. The seating is a bit tight between the tables but the chairs are comfortable. The theatre layout is good for going to the buffet and there are washrooms inside so you don't need to leave the theatre. Every few months, the shows change. You can buy tickets for one show, 3-show tickets or season tickets. Right now Folkswaggin' is playing, old songs are performed and if you love music, it brings back memories no matter how old you are. There is not one thing I would change about tonight! It was the definition of perfection! I was here for my first time, watching Roy Orbison production. The food was amazing, and a lot of it was gluten free which I appreciate, coming from a family where 3 people are celiac. They had a wide variety of buffet items, from sushi, chicken and prime rib; tons of dessert and sides and salads! Prices of alcohol was cheap, great selection, and signature drinks in theme of show playing. The wait staff were very professional, attentive and went out of their way to treat us like VIP! After the performance even the musical actors posed for pictures. This was the icing on the cake. They didn't have to and to be honest I didn't expect then to, but never hurts to ask. After singing for 2+ hours the last thing I would want to do is still be 'on' definetly a class act! The performance was enlightening and taught a lot of little known facts. I didn't know he had that much influence on the music today. What really blew me away, was the quality of the singing, the vocal variation and pitch (3 octaves!) unheard of especially in males! This was not my first or second time at this Dinner Theatre. I have come here a bunch over the years and I can safely say it is getting better and better. That says alot because it was a class act to begin with. I have the other dinner theatres in the city to compare it to and this one definitely is a step above the rest. The food is excellent and I always eat too much. They don't cut corners here and the chefs definitely take pride in their work. I will admit this time the Gravlox was too salty and coming from a salt fanatic that is pretty bad. But other than that the dessert section was the only thing that could use some love. I found them to be a little boring. The theatre aspect was incredible. I had seen 80's number 1 and this was the continuation....it FAR exceeded my expectations. I found myself singing to most of the songs, and I don't sing. I was just so excited I couldn't help myself. Sorry to my neighbors. Went to Media Night for "The Last Resort" here a couple weeks back. The show wasn't something I was a fan of, which is saying a lot since I love almost ALL theatre productions that I see. The reason I'm giving it 4 stars? Because this buffet was probably the best buffet I have been to in Edmonton! There was such an awesome selection of dishes, and everything was cooked and presented to the nines. I even got a chance to chat with one the main chef's here, and he proudly told me what was new, what was delicious, and even gave me paring options! The prime rib was succulent, the veggies were cooked and seasoned to perfection, and the mashed potatoes practically melted in my mouth. There is no way I could complain about anything I tried that night! The service was incredible - the waitress made sure we have everything we needed and that our wine glasses were never empty! She was friendly and pleasant, and knew the other ladies I was attending with well. The staff here definitely go above and beyond to make you feel like family from beginning to end. Edmonton, you sure are the home of many amazing attractions and the Mayfield is one of them! The Mayfield is nestled in Edmonton's West side and treats its guests to an all you can eat buffet followed by live theatre. I was lucky to get to check out the show Hair and it was quite the production! Live vocals and a entire band on stage completed the retro vibe of Hair. The lighting and costumes transported you right back to a time where peace and love ran free. I could not believe the talent of each of the cast members. They all really brought it on opening night and brought the house down. It was a world class production and I was so happy to get to see it! Now if your tummy is rumbling you may be wondering about the food. The all you can eat buffet is in a huge room at the back of the theatre. Your first stop is going to be at this delicious buffet after you have been seated and met one of the great wait staff. You eat all of your meal before your show in about a 2 hour time frame, so make sure to pace yourself! There is something for everyone and the menu changes with the production but they always have a cut of beef, chicken, fish and their amazing desserts. I definitely did not leave that establishment hungry. I had a bruschetta chicken, prime rib, Yorkshire pudding along with salads and desserts. I probably make it to a show here once or twice a season. The highlight for me is likely always going to be their production of Wizard of Oz, partially as I really adored the song that was cut from the film version, the Jitterbug! But I've also enjoyed other shows here such as Folkswaggin' and 9-to-5. The buffet offers different food for every show that they have. And the buffet is pretty amazingly diverse. I particularly love the yorkshire puddings but there's always a number of options from salads to dessert and everything in between. The hard part is pacing yourself and not overeating too badly! I do recommend getting some dessert (cookies perhaps?) and tea/coffee right before showtime to enjoy while watching the show because the buffet is only served before the show actually starts. The seating arrangements vary: you could have a booth or a table, and these are configured differently depending on the size of your party and the location in the room. The wait staff are really quite on top of things and remove used plates promptly. The chef is really nice if you ever get a chance to talk to him -- he really prides himself on the success of the establishment. read more

Review of the show "Folkswaggin': Music of the People" Tuesday, September 16, 2014 I was invited to this show and attend with a group of about 20+ people. I have been to the Mayfield Dinner Theatre before but this was probably 15+ years ago with my parents to a show or shows that I don't really recall. Dinner Theatre is usually fun but not always memorable. This show is another story though. I think this will be a hard show to forget and has to be one of my most favourite dinner theatre shows I have every been to. First off, the buffet. I wad direct to take the door behind the stage to go into the buffet area. When I walked through that door I entered a huge room filled with several buffet stations and a meat carving station for the prime rib. The food was excellent quality and food allergies were well listed on each item. I had a good conversation with one of the Chef's (Andre I believe) and he told me that they are very careful about gluten cross-contamination (as I was asking specifically about this) in their cooking and prep areas. I enjoyed everything I had one my plate. I tried to take small samples of as many items as possible but it was hard because there was so much to choose from! I went into the show not knowing much about it. I knew it would be a fun night out with friends and that dinner and a show couldn't be too bad right? Well this show was fantastic! It's all about the history of Folk Music, from its roots to modern day. The musicians were top notch and I bet they had a blast performing in this show. If you love the Edmonton Folk Fest you will probably love this show as well. I really liked their premise of having the show set in a fictional pub just down the hill from a Folk Fest where all of the musicians would hang out after the show. You know here in Edmonton the Cloverdale community has a little strip mall down the hill and they would actually love a venue like this. I bet it would be a hit with Folk Festers and musicians alike. (Someone get on this!) Some of the music you will experience: Jodi Mitchel, Gordon Lightfoot, Neil Young, Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Joan Baez to name a few. There is even some contemporary music thrown in (Dixie Chicks, Lumineers, etc) as well as Native American, Japanese and African traditional music. I don't think there is a bad seat in the house either. We sat near the back left side and I had no issues seeing or hearing the show. All of the staff from the front desk to ushers to servers were all excellent! This show in particular is fantastic and if you are a folk music fan you really need to go see it!
