I really hoped that the experience would better than the 2.5 stars. The positives first, the salad was fresh, crispy and the ranch was very tasty with great consistency. The salmon was very flavorful. Parking was plentiful. Now, the not so positive, ordering was a negotiation. The website doesn't reflect the current menu. My dinner partner ordered a beer which is no longer on the menu. I ordered the broiled tuna steak dinner which was clearly on the menu. The server returned after turning in the order to report "tuna is no longer on the menu" so I ask if they had broiled salmon and the server went to check. By the time the main course arrive I completely forgot pictures. I felt emphatic towards the server who appeared to be new and also frustrated to not be able to simply serve the customer what they chose from the menu. We had a party of 23; we made reservations in advance. We were seated promptly. The owner came out and thanked our host for booking at the restaurant. Our waitress was amazing. The issues: A seafood restaurant with no soup or crab cakes, that was a first. At the end of the service, we were informed that the bill could not be split. The cashier was adamant. We wanted to pay for what we ordered individually. After much conversation and a request to speak with the owner, we were informed she was no longer in the building, we paid and left the restaurant. Prior to leaving, I used the restroom, and it was filthy. When we arrived at our destination to review the bill, we noticed we had been overcharged. There were so many upcharges attached (four of the upcharges appeared at the bottom of the receipt, not attached to an individual order). We were charged for 24 drinks, mind you, when we had 23 in our party, and one of the 23 ordered water. The restaurant appears clean; however, I've always been told that if the bathroom is dirty, the kitchen is likely dirty as well. Mayflower Restaurant, this is the second time our group has visited your establishment and left unsatisfied. Needless to say, you lost 23 customers. read more

The food was pretty good. It's the reason we keep coming back, but probably the last time coming back to this location. The customer service was not that great getting us seated. No offense to our waitress, she was good but it took over 45 minutes to get our food. A few tables got their food and left before we even got ours. One member of our party got their food 20 minutes after everyone else did. There were also multiple tables that had dirty plates and cups from previous customers all around us. Whenever I come down with family we usually have one of our family meals at Mayflower in Rocky Mount. On our way out of town my father saw the Mayflower sign and had a full on tantrum so I stopped. FYI: Carry-out is on the side of the building. We drove around and my Dad placed his order. I am still confused as to the difference in quantity between a fish sandwich and fish dinner but he did not want me to ask. The food came out in about 20 minutes or so. We ordered the flounder dinner with fried okra and hush puppies. My Dad said it was delicious. In fact, I saw him stop eating, take a break and then go back to it. Seeing 2.5 stars... I was super worried to visit. I have a friend whose mom used to take him to Mayflower all the time. He said we should all good (it's about an hour drive). We joked with him the entire time that the food was going to be terrible because it was 2.5 stars on Yelp. Well, to my surprise... pretty much everything was good. Server was very attentive. We had the bloomin onion to start. Meal wise... I had the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and broccoli. Not amazing but average Alfredo. My boyfriend had the croaker which he said was on point. Had fried okras and hushpuppies and liked it all. The others with us had the flounder Sunday special. Portions were big. Overall, pretty solid place. Building is older so decor isn't up to par.. but not a big deal. Biggest issue I had (which is small) is that Pepsi tasted weird lol. read more

We came in pretty late, like an hour before closing. They accommodated us and weren't rude. I only ended up getting a loaded baked potato, and it was delish. I asked for my chives on the side, which they didn't do. I wasn't even mad about it!! It was perfectly proportioned. My friend got a salad, and scallops. (First ordered tuna, and they were out of it. ) she enjoyed her food but regretted getting the salad instead of a side, as it didn't have any toppings on it. My other friend got some fried fish, and popcorn shrimp platter with some onion rings. I thought the fish was very good, but she thought it was too much batter. I won't lie her popcorn shrimp reminded me of something from captain D's or a bag of microwaveable popcorn shrimp. Service was friendly, but for the price you pay, I would say you would think your getting something from a high end restaurant. I was traveling on Aug 3rd and wanted to pick up some fish to surprise my family. I stopped at the Mayflower as I have done so many times in the past and ordered three whiting fish dinners. I was on the way and it was about fifteen miles in my trip when I noticed a particular pungent odor in my car. It was a strong ammonia smell, the smell of rotten fish. I wanted to take the fish back but didn't want to lose the time on the trip by backtracking, so I continued on my way thinking this incident had to be intentional because any cook knows when fish is rotten. I threw away $40 worth of food because it smelled of death and decay. Needless to say, I will never stop there again. read more

Traveling from northern VA, my husband decided to stop at this place. Let me just say, if he ever bring me back here, I am filling for divorce. LoL. The fried shrimp was okay, however my fish ( was supposed to be whiting, however it did not taste like it) was flavorless and when I reached for the salt, it was particles in it. Then the steamed shrimp with the old bay on top of it didn't look right. I peeled and ate one, but while chewing, it was an unique smell, so rather get sick on the road while having to drive another 4 hrs, I only ate the fried shrimp and a few fries. When I come down to visit family, It's a must to eat at Mayflower, but the scallops were horrible it taste like rubber, and I couldn't eat them. They must have changed the brand to a cheap one. I did like the fried clams in the light batter that was, very good. Please change back the scallops to a more good quality brand. read more

Daily special flounder/shrimp special was excellent. As a customer over several years, this is a can't miss spot on I-95 to stop and eat. They spend their money on the seafood and skimp everywhere else. I'm glad they do as it's great quality for low price. And if you can put all of that food away, more power to you. As with other spots on I-95, go up a block or two and skip the chain restaurants for something local. It's much better! read more

Two thumbs up for the Mayflower in Roanoke Rapids, NC right off of I-95. This place is great!!!! They seat you quickly and the service is amazing. They have great quality sea food at a low price. We can't go home and not have dinner here. My normal dish is the flounder (nice size) with fries and a side order of veggies with a sweeten tea. There is a wait time of 15 minutes or less for your food when you are seated. I am happy to know this spot is still here because I cannot find a seafood spot like this at home. Can't wait to go back home to have dinner at the Mayflower. read more

We walked in a little before 7 pm and the floor was wet from mopping, the chairs were upside down on the tables (want to bet that they won't clean the table tops tomorrow?) and they said they were open. The waitress did not know the menu, 3 things we tried to order were "out" and when we did get something ordered the quality was very poor. Little pre-packaged Cole slaw! The stuffed deviled crab appeared to have no crab whatsoever, save the shell it was stuffed into. It was just really, really mediocre. The cucumbers in the salad were the highlight of the meal for me, very crisp and fresh. The sweet tea was also pretty good and obviously fresh. From the first time I visited Mayflower, I was in love and I cannot visit North Carolina without visiting this place! I usually have the Flounder and Shrimp platter (with fries or baked potato) which is served with delicious hush puppies and home-made Cole-slaw. It is oh so good! The portions are pretty big, so be prepared. I usually have a to-go bag because I can't seem to finish all that yummy goodness! Their menu is pretty extensive, and they offer various types of seafood. The staff is very attentive and you usually are seated quickly. It is a popular spot, so it gets filled pretty quickly. Visiting Mayflower has become our North Carolina tradition! read more

The seafood is fresh and served piled high on your platter, and the prices are very reasonable. We by chance found this place while visiting in town.. Ordering food (to go) as a walk up was a mistake. We waited almost 30 minutes for our food. Only one of my group of 3 had been here before, and she said the food was very good. I am going to challenge her taste buds and disagree. The food was average at best. Now, I did opt for the chicken strips instead of seafood, mainly because our order was to go, and I didnt want the fish funk to remain in my car for days. The chicken was tough and rubbery, I assume thats from over cooking. The others said their food was ok, not great, but ok. If this rating was only based on MY food, it would be a 1 star. Stopped on December 31, 2015 on the way to Raleigh-Durham Airport for a delicious lunch! Well, the anticipation ended when I received my meal: cold French fries and luke-warmed perch. The server did not check back on us after 25 minutes until I asked her to come to the table. After such a disappointing experience, I still left a generous tip! After leaving the restaurant, I realized I had left my prescription glasses. I know I had them while there, because I checked emails. I called back and of course no one has seem them! Just got the glasses two months ago! I hope whomever is using the frames -- employee or guest-- (since he or she probably can't use the prescription) enjoys them! They are pretty cool! While traveling from Chesapeake back to NC, I decided to stop at Mayflower Seafood off Exit 173 on I-95 for crab legs. I was told by the waitress that they have not had crab legs since June 2020 when they reopened, yet they are on the menu. She said the owner said they were only sending her small ones, so she didn't want to buy those. I order fried shrimp and oysters. Two of the oysters were perfect, yet four were overcooked (looked as though they had been refried). I mentioned that when my food was delivered that some of them looked overcooked. When the waitress came back to the table, she said she would be happy to have some fresh ones sent out, but she would be back to get the ones on the plate. No problem. The cocktail sauce was in a MUSTARD bottle. I did not get a refill of Pepsi. When the oysters were delivered the second time, they looked good until I bit one. They were undercooked!!!! It was the worse meal I had ever had at a Mayflower. The Mayflower in Raleigh has crab legs. It doesn't seem as if this owner is able to properly stock her restaurant. Never again! read more

You know, the choices for seafood in this part of I-95 North Carolina are limited. But I have to say, that they seated us quickly, the service was great, and the hushpuppies (in the shape of small donuts) were amazing. As for the sea faire, it's about what you would expect -- the influence is definitely calabash and the seafood is traditional for the eastern North Carolina table. Believe it or not, this place reminded me of the famous Sanitary Fish Market in Morehead City without the drive. Because of that, and the quality of the food, it's on the list. read more

I'm sitting here now and listening to one server talk about her interaction with the manager and how she told her manager she'd kick her a** if she ever put her finger in her face again. And then there's 4 other servers sitting and standing at a table as one eats and the other three pick at the food, even feeding one another with their fingers, and one girl licked my servers fingers. My server then went to the table behind them where he I guess boyfriend is sitting, and rubbed her hands all over his face. Now I don't know if she washed her hands or not, I'll assume she does. But just the fact that there are 5-6 employees being the loudest people in the restaurant and the one being loud and semi-vulgar, and I'm here with my kids.
