I worked with Mary Mayo on my aunt's estate. My aunt died without a will. Mary guided me through the many legal steps that arise from a complex estate, She has a background in finance and is very detail oriented. She handled the legal aspects and worked with a CPA for taxes and coming up with the best strategy overall to handle the closing of the estate. I was very impressed with her patience and setting up the required paperwork where I basically just needed to sign them. She kept me informed on what was needed to be done and talked with me on the different options that were available so that I was always involved with decisions. I just wanted to comment on another persons review that Yelp somehow decided that wasn't recommendable. This person is named Tony P. I used this law firm and had Terry work for me personally. Once I read the review, I realized its the same experience I had with Terry. This motivated me to write my own review. I want to say that his experience and mine were EXACTLY the same! Terry Mayo treats his clients like dirt. When I used Terry for a legal matter, he verbally abused me and insulted me. I took all this from him because he was willing to work on my case for cheap compared to his competitors. Had I known what I had to deal with, I would have passed on the savings and just went with another lawyer that would have treated me with the respect that I deserved during a troubling time. I was already stressed from this legal matter and Terry did nothing but add to it. Terry is known to provide free consultations and charge you a faction of the amount of legal fees his competitors would in order to to get your business. Once you are in, then Terry gets you. He will randomly jack up his legal billings to what ever he deems fit. Terry took advantage of me because he knows I had no choice but to go with it because he knew I was wasn't financially well off and couldn't find another lawyer and start over. That is Terrys MO. This law firm in my opinion is shady for this practice alone. Notice how all the reviews are "5 stars". You think a two person husband and wife team is really a 5 star firm that only you know about? That there is no bias? Nothing in life is 100%. I am sure they are paying or providing some kind of discounts to these reviewers. I was duped into using this law firm because of its Yelp reviews. I regretted it ever since. Terry was absolutely the most rudest individual I have ever met. He cut me off, he pretended he was god or something or if he was a judge and interrogated me. I have never felt so humiliated in my life to the point of crying. I also paid all my legal bills on time and early. I just don't know what I did to make this guy angry. Terry was also very ill prepared for legal matters. Terry is the kind of lawyer where I wish I had the other sides lawyer instead. THANK YOU so much Mary Mayo. The 4 months of working with you has been a pleasure. You promptly returned my calls and emails, and guided me to get the answers I needed to any questions. You are a true professional, and give lawyers a good name. I will most definitely recommend you to my family and friends, should the need ever arise. ***detailed experience below*** My PREVIOUS probate lawyer held my case for nearly 2 years. The probate process should have taken roughly 6 TO 9 months had she only listened to our wishes, which was to work on having the title assigned to me and my siblings. Instead, she kept insisting to sell the property through probate which was not what we wanted. This probate was just one property which my parents did not have a will or living trust, and there were no debts against the property. It has been nearly 2 years and the property is still in probate. This is when I began to contact other probate lawyers, none of which wanted to take over the case since they will most likely only be entitled to 10% of the fees assigned by the court. I was losing hope until I got into contact with Mary Mayo. She took the time to listen to my case, while the other lawyers quickly declined, because it's been almost 2 years, and they will barely receive any compensation. I began to share with her my stressful experience with my current lawyer, and all I want is to close probate and have the title transferred back under my name and my siblings. Mary Mayo was surprised that the probate has taken this long. She was extremely compassionate. She understood that I was stuck in an awful situation, so much so that she would take the case for free if she had to. After a few days, my current lawyer turned the case over to Mary Mayo, and the previous lawyer will claim 90%, which leaves Mary Mayo only 10% of the probate fees. I felt this was completely unfair. I told Mary Mayo that I wanted to be present at the probate hearing when they determine how the fees are distributed. I wanted to explain to the court that 18 months of the 2 years, my lawyer stalled and tried to manipulate me into selling the home through probate, rather than just working on getting the home back to us, the children. I believe that if the court hears what I had to say, that they would give Mary Mayo her fair share of the probate fees. Mary Mayo told me that her goal was to get the title back to the children sooner than later. That if we tried to dispute the 90% my previous lawyer is claiming, that can potentially further delay the process of closing the probate. She then reminded me of our first conversation "that she will take over the case even if it's free, and the goal is the get my parents home back". 4 months after Mary Mayo took over, the probate was complete, and the property title was assigned to me and my siblings. My previous lawyer was paid approximately $13500 by the court for wasting 18months of my time and Mary Mayo only received approximately $1500 by the court, while if not for her efforts, my parents' home would probably still be in probate. Having worked with Mary Mayo, I've had a change of heart in how I perceive lawyers in general. Some lawyers do have their client's best interest in mind, and genuinely care for them. read more

Five stars is not enough to rate Mayo & Mayo. My dad and I were having a lot of trouble finding accurate answers to legal questions after the sudden and tragic death of my sister, who had no will. Based on the reviews on Yelp, I thought I would see if Mayo & Mayo could provide any direction. Terry answered the phone and was extremely compassionate and generous with his time. He answered all of my questions over the phone and did not want any compensation for his time. He is exceptionally knowledgeable and experienced with these matters and provided me with additional tips for dealing with everything, and additional info that I did not even ask about. I feel very fortunate to have found Mary Mayo when I needed a lawyer to take care of probate on my father's estate last fall. Needless to say, nobody wants to go through probate, and I was completely confused when I realized I needed to go through legal channels to finalize what I thought was a very simple will. Mary was completely professional yet human from the get-go, qualities that really helped considering I was grieving over my dad and unsure what to do. With the probate process, you are in touch with your lawyer on a regular basis, and it helps when you actually like them (and trust them). She was empathetic and explained everything in very simple terms, and after just one face-to-face meeting, she handled everything and took a huge stress off of me. The Mayo and Mayo website is also helpful in explaining the probate process and her fees are completely reasonable. I really liked working with a woman, and she was always easy to talk to and patient when I missed some paperwork and had to resend documents. She also found wonderful tax preparers and financial advisors for me through her extensive network and that made very complicated transactions go very smoothly. She knows the legal system like the back of her hand, but she can also chat about stuff like acupuncture, and travel.
