The precision he used to make sure everything was even and lined up was unlike anything we've experienced before and my son has had a handful of barbers in the past. Our last barber in Snohomish is moving so we thought to try something closer to home. I'm so glad we found such a quality place. The shop is clean. Smells good. And the barbers are friendly. I would guess it's geared more toward adult men, however the barber had the booster seat for my son, and there was also another young boy getting his hair cut there as well. To all the moms, this is the spot for a good boy's and men's cute. Lastly, we were a walk in appointment and were helped right away. This was a Thursday afternoon. 3 other men were getting hair cuts while I was there and the other younger boy as I mentioned above. It seems like a busy place yet enough barbers available to meet demand. Highly impressed.

It was my first time going in there. Everyone was super nice and the place was super busy for a Wednesday afternoon. I came out with a great cut and beard trim. Don's barber is a walk-in only, no appointments, and the owner appears to be the only person working. Prices were some of the best in the industry at $14 (or $18). This location also does not accept credit or debit. So make sure to plan accordingly. I went on a Tuesday afternoon and the place was empty. Don was able to get me in and out of his shop in less than 20 mins. Although the cut could have used a little more detailing for a fade, I thought the price was fair. I've been to many places for haircuts, but I have never encountered a barber asking for a 75% tip on the bill--until now. After receiving a mediocre haircut, I was presented with the bill and was taken aback when the barber suggested 75% tip . This is not only excessive, but it also feels completely out of touch with standard tipping practices in the industry. Haircut for me was $ 36. So you want a $26 tip? $62 for 15 minute hack haircut? Tipping should be a reflection of great service quality, and frankly, I don't believe the haircut warranted such a high percentage. While the place I recently visited a barber shop called Mancave , expecting a classic man cave vibe, but I was sorely disappointed. Instead of the rugged, masculine atmosphere I anticipated, it felt more like a chick cat-owning club, the quality of service is inconsistent , relying heavily on the staff's mood and who happens to be working that day. I arrived to my scheduled appointment at 9:30 AM, but as I approached the front door at 9:22 AM, a blonde lady informed me that it would be "at least another 15 minutes" before she would even open the door . I found this puzzling, as I questioned how they could require an additional 15 minutes in an 8-minute window? To make matters worse, it was a chilly 39 degrees and raining outside. I felt unwelcome, almost rudely dismissed, being first customer . I stood outside until 9:32 AM while two staff members at the front desk seemed to ignore me, as if to send a message. Once inside, I was attended to by a stylist who had a Mike Tyson tattoo on her face. I was unsure of her qualifications for cutting hair, and frankly, I wouldn't trust her with clippers, but I needed to get hair cut. When she asked if I wanted my neck shaved, I couldn't help but wonder why she would even ask that--after all, I was at a barber! Than she said sorry we can't wash your hair we have no hot water . I said okeeeeey. The haircut itself was a disappointment; the back was choppy, and when I requested a touch up , she claimed it was the best she could do. With four decades of experience in getting haircuts, I know how a proper fade should look. Frustrated, she yelled across the room to blonde lady that told me it will be at least 15 minutes in the beginning exclaiming loudly, "Come on, man!" Overall, my experience was marked by unprofessionalism and a lack of basic customer service. I left feeling undervalued and dissatisfied. Background: A year ago I decided to start growing a beard. It finally grew to the point that I…read moreneeded to see a pro. Not knowing what to expect, it was an intimidating feeling. Joel @Jay's Barbershop was exactly what I was looking for. I've learned more about growth patterns, treatment and care than anywhere I've ever had my hair cut. Though it can feel overwhelming at first, you begin to catch on and start to appreciate Joel's passion for his business. I should also mention I feel strongly about small businesses in our community. Like many other small business owners, Joel has to put in a lot of hard work to compete with corporate hair salons. His hard work shows by the quality and time spent with each of his clients. To be frank, there's not even a comparison. Going into the barber shop feels nostalgic. Almost as if there's still a place that carries that 'old' feeling of where your dad would go to get his haircut and beard trimmed but with today's styles. No unrealistically happy people on posters, no super bright lights, just a place where no matter who you are and what your style is, you're a welcomed guest and will leave feeling brand new. I personally love how Joel has vintage magazine covers and old pictures on the wall. It displays a very genuine and unique personality which also transcends into his passion to cut hair. A couple tips I'd recommend if you want Joel to cut your hair (and I'd recommend him all the way): He's been cutting hair for more than 20 years. He's seen it all and has a deep understanding of the art. Have an open mind and listen to his advice. We may like a particular style and 'want' it to look good on us, but Joel will at least be there to give his professional input. He doesn't see people that he cuts hair for as 'customers' but rather clientele- a relationship where an exchange of ideas becomes your fresh haircut for the next few weeks. The other tip is for beards specifically. Sometimes your beard will look different the next day. If it's totally not what you're looking for he will definitely work with you. One final thing I'd like to mention. Joel also gives back to the community. He sells shirts and the proceeds go to an organization that helps people with cystic fibrosis. Joel is professional, highly skilled, creative and gives back to the community. What more can you ask for?
