Really good place to be at if you want a chill night. But all the posted pictures on yelp are... nothing like the actually place. Got the mint black tea, and it looked nothing like the picture; it came out on a paper cup with the tea bag in it... We ordered: tiramisu, hummus, Dr Pepper, some other cake on the menu... they were out. Maybe those items are only available on the weekend? But don't expect much on a Tuesday night. Our server was really nice and apologetic, still had a pretty good time. Was just a bit disappointing. They come around pretty often to check up on the coal. Which is nice. I don't believe all these 5 star reviews can be real. They must be friends of the owner because this was the most sleazy, money-grubbing experience I've ever had. They try to squeeze every penny out of you in such an uncomfortable way. Once I was seated I was asked what I would like to drink, I replied "nothing right now, thanks." The server then told me that I'm required to buy a drink. I felt bad for her, because it was such an awkward thing to have to tell someone. I wondered what would happen if I refused... would they kick me out? They lost any future business from me right there and then anyway. Its not like it was busy either, there was one other table occupied. Then I was told that me and my three friends couldn't share a hookah, we had to pay for two, even if sharing only one. "Oh but we don't have menus" so here have an awkward moment using my point of sale app on my iPad so you can decide a flavor, because we don't want to spend the money to print a list of flavors. The thing was, I wasn't looking for a bargain. I really wasn't concerned about the price. But by being forced to buy multiple hookahs and forced to buy a drink it made the experience very negative, despite the fact that I would have purchased those things anyway. Otherwise the service was good, but I mean there was no one else there so I can't give them too much credit. And the hookah was sub par. The vent on the hookah was clogged (this is something you would only notice if you have a lot of experience with hookahs) meaning you can't clear the jar of smoke and it doesn't hit efficiently. This is a sign that they don't maintain them very well. This was the case on both of the hookahs we ordered. I had to open the valves myself and clean out the bearings there so we could vent our hookahs properly. When I worked at a hookah lounge we would replace your hookah if the valve was not working properly. The server insisted I smoked from a piece of fruit instead of a ceramic head. After telling her "no" more than once I finally submitted, and as I expected the fruit provided less smoke than a ceramic head. I imagine they use some cheap tobacco that burns up really quick, so they push the fruit to make it last longer. It does last longer, but at the expense of good and heavy smoke. MY ADVICE TO THE MANAGEMENT: Instead of trying to squeeze every penny out of your customers in order to raise your average sale, try to provide great experiences. By the lack of customers on a Friday night, I'm guessing your current methods aren't working very well! read more

This is the best customer service I've ever had. Not just at a hookah bar but in general. So I'll start with that: Customer service 5/5: the manager greeted us with a smile as we walked in. We mentioned that we had never been to this hookah lounge and he directed us to the server, told her we were curious about the pricing and that it was our first time there so "treat them well" our server was kind and informative. She told us about the flavor pricing and when we say down showed us their flavors. She explained about mixing flavors and told us when things would cost more (mixing 4 flavors, etc). She also offered us ice tips to make our hookah more smooth and a fruit bowl so the shesha would last longer. Less than a minute after my friend and I mentioned being hungry, they brought us pretzels. I asked the manager if they sold food and he told us no. But then came back with free cheesecake because a friend of his brought the staff some earlier. They're checking on us consistently. Atmosphere: 5/5 They have a sports game playing on the tv and music playing but it's not too loud like most places. The seating is comfortable and well set up. There is a fountain in here which Just adds to the chill atmosphere Pricing: the pricing is great. Not too expensive. Probably around the same if not cheaper than most places. You can mix 3 flavors together before they charge extra and they add Ice tips to your hookah hose for 2.99 and replace the tip when it warms for free. The Turkish coffee is not only good, but also fairly priced. I will only come back to this hookah bar because the owner, you can really tell, cares about his business and his customers and his staff. I have been to hookah lounges in over ten different cities from LA to MIA to TDOT... But this was by far the best. I am not one to exaggerate, but as soon as we walked in we were greeted and seated. Nick helped us select the best flavor for what we wanted. Not to mention gave us a Yelp discount and anni house promotion. The flavor was awesome! I asked about an ice tip and boy was I in for a treat. It was a frozen Sub zero type chamber, way better than the plastic tube things. We were treated very well, nick hooked it up with a great flavor, and we had the coals attended too as needed. Overall I recommend this place and I will definitely be returning, and with my stamp card! They have a stamp card as well to work towards a discount. This is the go-to hookah lounge for me and my friends after King Tut closed. Whether it's right at open on a weekday or the peak of a busy Friday night, Mazaj has always been a great experience! I'm not a big smoker, so I'll partake in whatever my friends order. During our last visit, we got some sort of grape flavor in a grapefruit head. It reminded me of grape-flavored medicine I used to take as a kid--in a sweet, nostalgic way of course! I also always order green tea with mint. Super refreshing. First of all, this place is a nice and welcomed change from the traditional college scene hookah lounge. Sitting in large leather couches is a nice change. In terms of the quality of service, I would say it has been mostly good and I have been a few times. When I am there on a quiet night, they are all over it and constantly checking to be sure I am prepared. Last week it seemed unusually busy and the staff seemed overwhelmed. So much so that coals didn't come out regularly and after being up sold the ice tip, they never replaced the tip to keep it cold. There seemed to be a ton of small oversights that make the experience go from being fantastic to just above average. The other thing that I didn't like was that people were constantly being shifted, I understand that you want to maximize space but being asked to move more than once is a bit rude. The last concern I have is one that I share with someone else who has commented. You are being nickel and dimed the entire time. I went with three people and they charged an additional $8 for the third person. Had there been a two hose option we would have done that but not even the cheap college places charge $8 for an additional person. Of course you are required to get a drink. Also don't expect to split the check, if you go with multiple credit cards each one is charged an additional $1 "service fee." And after all the "hidden fees" they have the audacity to ask for a tip. I have been in the service industry and I leave very generous tips, but I can't find it in me to leave much of anything because this place literally sucks every penny they can get from you. So in general, this place is a very nice well kept lounge. Comfortable and relaxing, again a welcomed change from every other local hookah lounge. This place has the potential to be a 5-star lounge but given the many fees and up charges, it will only get 3. With that said, I will be back though it has to be less often since the prices are somewhat steep. read more

How could a business kick out ppl because of their reviews. I once went with my friends to this place to smoke hooka and chill and this place, I have already told a lot of people about this place and recommend them to go to till this bad experience happens.. I was with three of my friends trying to have a chill night and this place ruined that night by its policies.. So, what happens was, the server politely came by and check us in with our orders. 2 minutes later, he came again and told us that we HAVE to order a hooka for every 2 ppl and drinks while the other 2 ppl don't smoke at all..So, we explained that to the server but it seemed not helpful to make him understand.. back and forth with him till he made us buy two hooka + drinks.. we were positively trying to deal with situation instead instead of having a chill night.. after all that, one of my friend couldn't hold it anymore and went on Yelp's app and gave everything happened on the reviewes.. Suddenly, there is the owner with anger on his face coming to our table, and asked us who put that review. So, we understood that he wanted to remove that comment on his page because of their service and policies.. at the same time our drink were brought by the server.. so, the owner took the drinks away and kicked us out of the whole place and without a valid reason from him.. I regret that I recommended this place to many friends, and I will never do a business there anymore. I've never once had a bad experience here from the service to the actual hookah -yeah it's a little pricey but it's 100% worth the money. The flavors are the best out of all the hookah lounges I've been to. The owner and staff are always so wonderful and make sure you're comfortable and make it a very personal experience, make sure your coals are just right and you never have to ask for anything because there are usually routine table checks in five minutes or less. For them just getting started a good four months ago I'm highly impressed. Not to mention the ventilation in this place is wonderful, unlike most hookah lounges, you don't have to walk outside to get a breather here. I'm prone to headaches and getting sick in smoggy and loud places like most hookah lounges in tempe, but I've yet to experience that here which without a question has won me over. Only thing I'll say is yes, the price is a little pricey and yes they have little additions that do add up but you're never required to upgrade anything and they don't have an issue telling you the prices for anything you're curious about -either way you ARE getting what you pay for.
