First time visiting this salon. I called on a Sunday to inquire about an appointment time and they accommodated me that same day. The salon had a good amount of customers in there so make sure you set aside a few extra hours. I do not remember the names of the 2 assistants ( I really wish I wrote it down). The older lady who had the stew peas soup with rice did a PHENOMENAL job washing and even massaging my scalp. WOW. Looking forward to seeing her again. Whatever she used to wash my hair left my scalp feeling cool and refreshed. Ms. Marcia styled my natural hair ( no perm) into coils. Today is Friday and my coils still look fresh and I've been getting none stop compliments. This shop is conveniently located right by the Cross island highway- 10 minutes from sunrise highway and it is not overpriced. I have to say that I am super satisfied with my experience at the salon and the results of my hair. As a life long natural girl that has experienced a tragic heat damage episode in the past, I thought it was important to go to salon that focuses on treating and maintaining healthy hair. This is it! I am an extremely "tender-headed" individual but as an adult I've learned to check myself and keep the sounds of my whimpers to myself. Came here sort of last minute to get a silk press ($65)for my birthday, and they were so kind and squeezed me in on a Sunday. The salon is clean an brightly lit, and they have a closet for customers. I think they used 2 different kinds of shampoo oh peppermint oil on my hair and they smelled AMAZING, my hair felt extra clean. You know how they say if a stylist's hair looks good you're in good hands? Well Marcia's Afro looked amazing and she did not disappoint! This review was the most difficult review I ever had to write, but I look to Yelp for trustworthy reviews, so I hope this will help someone. Prior to me coming to this salon I had back length (when silk pressed) natural hair. I was tired of commuting to get my hair done and I saw this salon and it's marvelous reviews. The first time I went, I got crochet braids. I was impressed by the fact that the owner jumped in my car and went with me to purchase the correct hair. I decided to relax my hair, the service went downhill, after the relaxer my back length hair went to shoulder length. Up until today I have no idea how. I went to get another relaxer and my shoulder length hair went to neck length with one side longer than the other!!! I was so dismayed, I texted the owner right away and via text she replied sorry. I still returned to the salon after that; but the last straw was I made a comment about not liking my hair, while I was still in her chair and she waited until I was about to exit the salon to tell her next client in "Oh she don't like her hair, because she accustomed to it being on her back"! I went there yesterday for a wash, condition, trim, and silk press. My hair is natural and I'm very Leary of going to salons because I don't have time to spend all day in the salon. I arrived a little early for my appointment but I was seen right away. The salon is a warm and welcoming environment. The woman who washed and conditioned my hair was thorough and gentle . She did an excellent job and was very attentive. The owner pressed, trimmed and styled my hair.. she knows her stuff!! She Asked for my input before she started cutting ( I loved that). I was able to get a quick appointment for a silk press , permanent color and trim. I was surprised by the $105 charge I received. I was given a quote by Jasmine of $70 the Day before. When I questioned her she said yesterday was a bad day . I requested a natural black color and received a light brown. Found this place on a whim. Needed a good wash and set and wanted to go someplace where they knew my type of hair. I called and they were able to fit me in same day in about an hr and a half. I made my way to the salon and within the first few minutes I was seen, seated at a sink and had my hair washed. I don't know what kind of shampoo the young lady used but it gave my scalp a tingling sensation and smelled very minty and I will have to admit I throughly enjoyed it. Being the fact that my hair is considered natural I couldn't get my hair rolled set it had to be blow dried then flat ironed. I was placed under a dryer (after my hair was parted and combed out into sections) for about 2 hrs or so ( I have very thick and long hair). After the dryer they same young lady that washed me hair blew it dry. After a while when she was finished with one of her clients the owner then flat ironed my hair and it was soo straight. She even curled it to give it some bounce and volume. My only issue is that they don't oil your hair before they flat ironed it or blow dry it, and I don't remember them putting any heat protectant in my hair. They service was great and attentive s little bit my pricey then I'm used to but you pay for quality not by price and the quality was definitely outstanding. I've been meaning to write this review for a while, but I never got around to it. I was a regular client of Marcia for about six years, first at Beauty Empire and then at MBY. After I graduated from high school, I went away for college and I currently wear natural hairstyles, BUT you rarely find a hairstylist like Marcia. For reference, I have 3b/3c hair and my hair has never been permed. Marcia has styled my hair through all of its phases: curls, straight, short, long, side bangs, tapered bangs, highlights, layers, single process color, etc. When I had highlights, she made sure to give me regular deep conditioning treatments. My hair retained its health during this period of time, no excessive damage or crazy breakage. This salon is great because they are accommodating. No appointment? It'll be a wait, but you'll be taken care of. For my 16th birthday, I got highlights and bangs. Marcia stayed after store hours to finish up my hair and make sure it was done properly. I went to this Salon with my 9 year old on a Sunday to get her natural hair washed and trimmed and treated. The wait was long but we didn't have an appointment so I understood. I made a mistake of not asking how much the service would cost and assumed it was nothing but a trim and treatment, ( no styling, just blow out and ponytail) well $70 dollars later I was not happy, but like I said it was my mistake. Surprisingly though I must say my daughter's hair was very healthy and strong. A few week later her hair was still beautiful and strong. I actually was very pleased with my daughter's hair. First off don't be deceived my natural sisters,this is not a natural hair salon. They claim that they can take care and style natural hair false!!! I went there thinking I can get a deep condition and flexi rod set, simple right? Well no...not for this hair dresser. So rough with washing my hair,didn't even trim and rushed to put in my flexirods,literally felt like she was riping my hair out!!! I even told her to be more delicate. She didn't care....and to make matters worse I barely was under the dryer for long I knew my hair was still wet...so how can the curls even come out? She could care less obviously because she was rushing to close the shop up! So when she started taking out the rods,I told her I don't like it and she was like oh that's the style I wanted....when I clearly showed her a picture of the same exact style I want. I live in the neighborhood and I've always passed this salon, one day I finally had the courage as of late to call the salon's owner, Marcia, to make an appointment to get my hair done.
