We've been to many McAllister's Deli locations and we patronize this one with regularity. Going to McAllisters has always been a reliable and pleasant experience. Sadly, today was not that and actually pretty disappointing. So, we will start with the good as that's much easier. The pictured Lemonade w/black cherry was REALLY tasty - and actually the star of the show. The staff was REALLY FRIENDLY and nice. The restaurant was mostly clean... On to the food, which sadly, is the not good part: I ordered the above pictured lemonade and the pick 2. The two were Horseradish roast beef sandwich and a potato soup. The soup looked great! The potato chucks were nicely sized, the cream base of the soup was the right consistency. The bacon was cut the right size... The sandwich had the right ingredients. Roast beef, horseradish, cheddar and bread were all present. The soup was quite dull. Flavorless. It appears that great effort was put into appearance. I feel that more effort on flavor would have helped remarkably. The sandwich had almost no taste also. Horseradish was involved, but in such a small quantity that it didn't change the fact that my tastebuds were still napping. Anyway, I'm just saying, the employees were great, and usually we love the place. Not today. read more

The kindest staff, I'm not sure his name but older gentleman with tattoos, just the KINDEST soul. Checked up on me and made sure everything was good with my order. The food was delicious- definitely beats stopping at a random sub or sandwhich place and better than the other main more popular chains. What is a word for "when an establishment accept someones funds for goods/services but doesn't follow through???" If you have something worthwhile to say to me leave your contact info via the message chump. I call things as they are. Don't hide behind the keyboard!! Passing through the area & decided to opt for something on the healthy side vs typical fast food. Placed an online order & walk up order and neither were made. The online order was accepted; however, I did not receive anything. After observing the family in front & behind us receive their food we inquired of the issue. The guy behind the counter said "he didn't see the order" How in carnation do you miss and order that was made between two orders?? Did you intentionally omit our food per physical appearance? Like, we are sitting in your face and you comfortably extend a fib for us to accept? After requesting a refund vs exhausting more time for food we are now skeptical of eating we are incurring another wait for your manager to return to the store and process the return. Why leave your employees in a position of being short staffed & incapable of giving a refund??? After approx 10 min, Mgr finally arrives & returns the money for wak in order & nothing per online order. I'd like my money back, pls. To McAlister's croporate office, this is blunt discrimination. The host that took my order was great. the other co workers just sat in a booth being extremely load and obnoxious. one of the co workers who is a little person was very rude to her. Making rude comments to her when she asked a simple question. the look on this poor girls face I felt so bad. the way he talked to her in front of a customer I can only imagine how he treats her when a customer isn't there. whoever this manager is should be let go. read more

The food was good. Where it was terrible was the service. Sam was doing great job at the register but it failed on him three times with 6 customers. Also, when an issue came up . We have eaten at several McAlister's in the past so we had certain expectations. I ordered a sandwich and they asked "what side do you want with that?" I asked if a side was included and was told " yes". When I looked at the receipt it was obvious sides are not part of the meal. I was charged $3.29 each for the sides. She lied to me. My family had a roast beef sandwich, and I had a French dip. The roast beef was decent, but my French Dip was terrible. I was expecting my meat to be like Roast beef. The Roast beef was nice and pink, the way it was supposed to be. But my French dip had brown-colored meat, which means someone cooked it before putting it in the sandwich. I received a big cup of Au jus, which wasn't necessary to have that much. No horse radish. I had to ask for it. I was so grossed out that I took 2 bites and left. read more

Stopped here for late lunch/early dinner a couple of weeks ago on our road trip but nobody could bother to serve us. We were the only ones inside and there were only a couple of cars in the drive-thru. After a 5 minute wait at the counter we were told they would be right with us. After an additional 10 minutes (I was craving a baked potato) we decided to go elsewhere. There are much better options to pick from if they don't want our business. Worst McAlister's at which I've ever eaten. It took 45 minutes to get my order (I checked what time my card was charged and what time they actually gave me my food.) I had to go stand in line to ask for my food. There was an entire queue of orders to be brought to tables... and not one person to bring them. Management needs to do a better job with staffing and ensuring that things are running smoothly. I wish there was a way for me to give a lower rating than one star; the service was just that bad. read more

We have to go from Sullivan, Il to Effingham, Il.once a month for eye treatment. We have ate at most places around the interstate but had overlooked McAlester's since it is off the road a ways. The prices seem to be competitive or a little more than normal. Everything was tasty. My wife ordered a cup of chili. She couldn't eat it due to the consistency and taste. Honestly it was the worst chili I have tried to eat. When the waitress asked how our meal was,I replied all the food was good except the chili. She said what was wrong with it, I said it taste like crap. It tasted like hot dog chili out of a can. I am giving them 3 stars only because of the chili, otherwise I would have given them 4 stars. read more

Ordered a spud Max and received an over cooked or old potato that barely contained any of the ingredients. Due to the potato being old and hard it was inedible . Luckily this is not a location that I frequent but rather a quick stop on a road trip. Non the less I would. Great food, but the service is so slow. Would not advise going here if you're in a hurry. But if you aren't the food is amazing.

We stopped here on our road trip from Dallas to Chicago and I'm so glad we did! They have a convenient drive through option however we opted to get out of the car to dine in and stretch our legs a bit. As soon as we walked in we were greeted and welcomed in by a super nice employee that gave us a couple of minutes to decide before ordering. I ordered the choose 2 spicy southwest chicken sandwich accompanied with a cup of chicken tortilla soup that was to die for! I loved the melted cheese over the warm chicken breast, and the spice level was just right for me. My husband ordered the club sandwich and a side of potato salad. For drinks we had the peach tea and we were very surprised to see an employee gladly come by to ask if we needed anything else. It gave us the experience of a sit down restaurant and we were not expecting that! Awesome customer service, the restrooms were super clean and the entire dine in area was spotless. I recommend people to stop by to take a break if you're on a road trip like us but I would also come back to this location if I was a local. Kudos to this team and manager for giving us an above and beyond visit. read more

We came through the drive thru. Our sandwiches barely had anything on them. They didn't even fill up each half, there was so much space of just bread. The salad had huge wedges of lettuce that weren't even broken apart. Plus the person who brought our order out had no clue what he was giving us. read more

Delicious food! One of my favorite places in town! Don't let some of the reviews stop you from going here. Within the last several months the service here has dramatically improved. When they were still fairly new almost every time I went my order was messed up. I'm not sure if they got new management or what but every time I go here the people are friendly, food and service is great, and most importantly my orders were correct! Whatever they're doing, they finally got it right! Very happy I gave them a second chance! read more

Love eating at McAlister's but out of the 10+ times we've eaten there, they've got our order right one time. Disappointing

There food was great, but the cheese slice on my sandwich was not taken out of the plastic wrapper.

We ate at the new location of McAllister's in Effingham, Illinois this evening for our first time. We were so impressed. The food was excellent and the service was a step above. They bring the food to you, come back repetitively to fill up our drinks, and bused the table when we were finished. The manager stopped and asked how everything was and we had nothing but positive things to say to him. We could tell by our conversation that he takes great pride in providing the customers top notch service. We have eaten at other soup/sandwich places, but McAllister's is definitely first class. We will be eating there often. read more
