I worked with McCarthy Tax preparation for 3 consecutive years. 2021, 2022 & 2023. CPA Kimberly was originally assigned to me for the first 2 years. She was good and there were no issues. However, when planning started in the end of 2023, my final year with them, I was assigned a new CPA, Jessica, without any notice. They're digital phone connection for our first designated planning session together was very poor and we could barely hear each other. This led to careless mistakes and confusion that I was forced to correct through the Liscio messenger in the days following. During that meeting, I had to initiate the introduction myself which was really strange and even bring up the topic myself of why the CPA assigned to me for the last 2 years was switched. I understand that the CPAs work as a "team" like many firms but professional etiquette in the instance was clearly missing. Jessica, the newly assigned CPA is a designated a senior advisor and seemed to be knowledgeable but multiple issues arose and compounded because of her extremely poor communication style in the Liscio messenger. She would repeatedly answer my questions through the Liscio messenger with excessive detail but her answers were rarely personally tailored to my family. My wife and I both felt she responded like an AI program at turbotax. On multiple occasions I would allow obscure conversations to go on for days in the Liscio messenger in hopes that she would listen to my direct requests to craft her answers more clearer and better directed at my family's personal situation. I was rarely, if ever, successful. Only two times I scheduled a phone call in order to clarify critical things that were clearly getting lost in translation through the Liscio messenger. I was shocked when Jessica each time responded by (1) cancelling the scheduled phone call, (2) telling me that she already coherently explained the topic in the Liscio messenger chat and (3) finally quoted the contract and said she won't take phone calls for questions because I'm only entitled to one phone consultation a year. My jaw dropped. All I wanted was a clarification because she was failing at her role to explain things correctly through the Liscio messenger. When I reached out to Mr. Mcarthy about this new strange relationship with Jessica his response was that he's not taking phone calls because it was too close to filing season. I basically gave this firm $2800 just to file my 2023 taxes because the quality of their consulting services as decreased significantly since 2021. I'm not sure if it's growing pains or if they're just trying to improve their bottom line with increased "efficiency" but I would avoid until they figure what sort of firm they want to me. UPDATE following owner's response: Interesting response from the owner of the firm. Now I see where the malignant behavior stems from. I'm a physician. Imagine me telling a patient that I'm not taking their "ad hoc" phone call clarifying my professional recommendations because I feel that I already adequately explained them in the office. How silly.
