There were no marks, scuffs nor anything on the walls upon leaving. The normal "wear and tear" was part of living. Everything upon leaving was immaculate, yet the kept the total deposit, and the list they gave me upon leaving (within the state guidelines) was quite an overstep with reality and the true cost of maintenance. The one thing that was a problem is NO elevators and the toilet would not flush. If they were trying to save money on water, flushing 4 times was not a cost saver. The rent goes up EVERY year so be aware. It is close to the university which is nice, but just be aware of the "issues" we had.

They kept many of the elements of the old office space, so it is not just another apartment but has a fantastic historic vibe to it. The building is beautiful, clean, extremely quiet and seems primarily filled with grad students and more mature professionals. The building is within walking distance to just about everything, and the free CityBus to Purdue picks up and drops off within steps from our door. Guaranteed lot parking is available for an up-charge, or you can use free street parking just a few blocks over. I work and attend class at Purdue and just walk anytime I can; it is about 1.5 miles each way but is the perfect way to get a little 30 minutes of cardio to start your day. Highly recommended!

The coffee in the main area became cheap exotic Great Value brand flavors that no one would actually drink (sat for months). The trash compactor breaks...and stinks in summer. The parking lot and shared indoor areas are not kept clean. Poop once sat outside of the back entrance for weeks. They got caught charging tenants different rates for electricity (!). They left one of our neighbors' heat broken for months during winter. Left someone else's AC broken during hot months. They act like richards when you ask them to do their job and they do the bare minimum (i.e. least expensive thing) to temporarily fix issues knowing full well it will just break again. They do shady ish with leases too, so be careful. And they had the audacity to raise the rent despite all of the above. A horrible lazy, cheap group trying to maximize profits at their tenants' expense. Can't wait to hear about baby's first lawsuit. Would love that for them! P.s. Purdue used to go after landlord's on their student's behalf. I wonder if they still do... Just thought I'd mention that. Cheers!

Manager Karen has been quick to acknowledge and resolve the few issues we have needed her help with since we have been living here. Maintenance is handled by a very well educated and knowledgeable maintenance man named JR. My family and I have been living here going on three years, and we have truly enjoyed living here at Deerfield commons. And we all agree that this is the best place to live in Lafayette, Indiana. We enjoy Free Parking, Washer & Dryer Hookups, Outside Storage, a Balcony with a locking sliding glass doors & may I also mention that we have a great view of the well landscaped lawn just outside of our apartment. Thank you H.I. management and Property manager Miss Karen and JR Director of maintenance for making our experience so good. There are definitely pros and cons to keep in mind however. I will start with the pros: Location: It is a GREAT place if you are a student because it is a 7 min drive to campus and it is literally 2 mins away from downtown. It's also only 8 minutes away from the mall! So the location is absolutely perfect no matter where you want to go. Staff: Everyone is so friendly. Andrew is extremely reasonable and willing to work with you. Jasmine is new but super nice and helpful. Jacob and Wayne from maintenance are really nice and care about doing the job right. Everyone is great. Storage: The kitchen has SO MUCH ROOM to store stuff. Half of my cabinets are only half full because I can't possibly buy enough to keep them fully stocked. The closet in the hall is also humongous. Scenery: The walking trail might be my favorite part. There is a mini forest behind the apartments. If your lucky, you'll get a trail view window and get to see beautiful nature every time you look out. But even if you don't get the trail view, the trail is always there if you want to get in touch with your nature side. Windows: The windows are huge and let in a lot of natural light. Now for the cons: Size: It is a bit small. It's is definitely perfect for my first apartment by myself, but I think I have quickly outgrown it. The kitchen and bathroom are a nice size, but the bedroom is a bit cramped. My living room feels a bit small too, but it might be because it's also my art studio. Design: A lot is outdated. If you plan on moving in, my biggest tip to you is to plan on replacing lighting if you can. It makes a HELL of a difference. The light fixtures in the other apartments is outdated and makes the place seem dim and a bit dirty. New bright lights will seriously help. I cannot stress that enough. The cabinets and refrigerator are also out of date. The bathroom is just downright ugly. Especially the brown tub. AC Unit: Ok so this one is big. They are having an apartment wide issue with the AC units not regulating humidity right (i believe). There is a shelf built into the wall under the window and above the AC. In a lot of units (including mine), this led to a mold problem under that shelf since it was trapping all the moisture. They took out my shelf and replaced the drywall and are currently looking for a solution to keep that problem from happening again, but just know that might be something you want to investigate if you do decide to move in. I would bring a dehumidifier with you.

They never clean snow, they don't even care if you fall and break your bones. My shoes and amazon packages have been stolen from my door step. When I complained management they said they can't do anything. When we requested them to put secure locks or cameras they said it very costly and they can't do it. While I was talking to them another person came and complained about their shoes missing from their door step and they hardly bothered.
