This cemetery within a cemetery contains the remains of soldiers who died at nearby Fort Gratiot from a cholera epidemic in the early 1800s. Soldier's Lot is unusual in that it's a national cemetery contained within a larger public cemetery. It's less than an acre, but still has the same white markers found in all national military cemeteries. Because it's surrounded on at least two sides by more modern markers, it doesn't quite have the same visual impact. It's easily overlooked and because of its age, there are no flowers or plants left by relatives. Still, it's worth a visit for the historical reminder and to honor members of the military no matter when or how they died. It's a respect thing.
