The store is on a weird tiny side street at Parham and Broad, tucked into an overlooked shopping center... at first I thought it could be a hardware store... but then I saw it was all focused on painting. The layout of the store seems very much like it's focused on contractors, though I was helped by the manager Glen Balke and he said he has lots of retail customers too. The store itself has a small front area for shopping, and then the rest looks like its storage... As the name implies, the only paint they sell is Porter. So in terms of selection, it's not the same as going to Lowes and browsing a bunch of collections. Porter does have a nice display of color choices, and the manager proactively gave me a whole book of samples to take home- which is pretty much a guaranteed way to ensure I end up going back to buy, since I'll be using those paint samples to match up fabrics I'm buying etc. Aside from color choices, they also have tons of painting supplies like brushes and ladders, etc. so handymen and contractors do probably go here to stock up... While I didnt ask for too many details about the different paint types (seems premature since I am not even sure I want to redo the kitchen just yet, and I still have to paint my bedroom) it looked like you would need a sales associate to walk you through the store and explain everything to you- they have a lot of choices and sell a lot of different types of paint that I have no idea what the difference is to regular paint- it's not really that user friendly to shop on your own. But, a sign over the counter listed the promises the store makes to its customers and #1 was that you will be greeted promptly and have a great service experience, which I did. I usually don't like to have help when I shop, but I would definitely come back and let them guide me through buying paint and supplies...

So for 15 minutes ( no exaggeration ) he very slowly tried to find price!!! Finally after waiting 20 min it was my turn only to be told they were out of paint I wanted!!!! He said I could "try" other stores!!!!!! So I asked HIM to call other stores. Instead he took a phone call that lasted 10 min!!!! So I asked him AGAIN to call other stores. Instead, he chose to wait on next person after at this time I had been in store over 30 min!!!! I told him he had to finish waiting on me and he totally ignored me!!! I am a regular customer and this kind of treatment was unacceptable!!!! So off I went to Benjamin Moore where I was greeted with professionalism and my order completed in an extremely timely fashion!!!'

We usually go to Pleasants Hardware because, well, it's pleasant, but since this store just opened up in a strip mall near us, we decided to check it out. We were sent a mailer for a free key, so we thought we'd get a new key made. While 3 employees were trying to figure out the machine, we piddled around and got a few necessities, lightbulbs, batteries, bird food, etc. The guys working there didn't seem to know their stuff. They were pulling out manuals and we waited for what seemed like an eternity. My hubby was growing a beard waiting! Finally, we were told they didn't have our key, and it wouldn't have been free anyway because it was a car key. The flyer did not indicate any exclusions. Then they said "just house keys", but then they said our house key was different and they didn't do those either. What a joke. We left the items on the counter and left disappointed. Their flyer needs to specify which keys are included in the freebies! Or add the wordage "exclusions apply". Who's your marketing person? As my Yelp friend, John G. commented, they don't have the keys to success! Anyway a few days later, I told my sister that I still had they coupon for a free key, so we thought we'd give them another chance. I don't like to leave one star reviews unless my experience is truly awful, and I like to give businesses an opportunity to redeem themselves before I make a judgment. Sadly, more disappointment ensued. Again, it took 3 people to get the keys made and they cast us aside to assist other customers while we were next in line. We were appalled. It is a real shame that the local execution doesn't match the marketing hype. We needed a new clothes dryer and were prepared to buy one. We'd even done our homework and knew what we wanted. So all anyone needed to do is show up and take our money. With no one in the appliance area (or anywhere nearby) we pushed the button at the desk.... "special assistance is needed at the appliance desk." We waited. The announcement repeated three times as the lighted button blinked off and on. After the third repeat, the button went dark, apparently signalling it was time to give up. With no help in sight I pushed the button again. And we cycled through the announcements again. And then again. No one, not even a manager if there was no available staff, cared enough to come take hundreds of dollars from me in the space of maybe 20 minutes. We walked out and went to another business. Lowes lost a sizable easy sale. Another couple was there at Lowes at the same time, looking at refrigerators. They kept hovering near us as we all waited for anyone to make an appearance. I assume they left soon after we did. Lowes has a lot of products and I know they make a lot of money. The stores are huge. So they need to consider diverting a few of those marketing dollars and use them to hire more people.
