As I sit down to share my experience with this Law Firm, I reflect how pleasant and smooth it was. It is true that people only go to a law firm, most of the time- like when they go to a medical facility- when they are going through some kind of challenge. What. matters most here is how well they were treated, how well their expectations were met, and how successful and painless the outcome was. I'm happy to say that McCoy Fatula checks all the above boxes, and some. At the outset, I'd like to mention that my experience was, by and large, limited to Ms. Lorie Wood of this law firm. I may sound hyperbolic here, but from the depths of my heart, I felt overwhelmed by the courtesy, kindness, empathy and understanding that Ms. Woods exhibited. I switched and was apprehensive at first about any lawyer after the situation with the other lawyer, but he made me feel secure and fought for everything I asked for. The attorney assigned to my case did not pay attention to the facts, despite being given everything, tabulated and indexed. I was continually asked the same questions over and over again, and had to advocate for myself constantly. Having to Google case law and provide it to my attorney whether claims should be scoffed at and shut down. I would expect emails and calls to say "opposing counsel tried to do this, but we did this..." Not telling me what they were trying to do and me researching and telling them what to do. All the while I was getting charged. If they breathe or think your name, its going on the bill. I was also denied copies of emails that I was being billed for, both to and from opposing counsel - but was sure billed for these supposed emails. Watch your bills closely. When you see "weekly court check" keep in mind that when they appear as attorney of record with the court, they are automatically notified of any filings. No human is going onto the court website and checking your stagnant case every week. I dont know why I would want to pay my attorney to learn the law from me. Or spend money for them to learn the law from their managing attorneys. Thats their job, not ours, and you certainly should not pay them to do it. I would expect that when hiring an attorney in family law, they would have a solid knowledge of family law. read more

I came to the office of Mr Fatula desperate for help. It all started with a very very nice Marcia (receptionist). She calmed me down and scheduled me for the very next day. I consulted with Mr Fatula and later he assigned to my case Mila Kalilets. I will be forever thankful far all that Mila have done for me and my daughter. Mila is a very dedicated and passionate professional. Not only she is an amazing person but she is also a very knowledgeable lawer. Long story short, unnecessary papers and motions were filed. The results I got in court were from my own doing. I got quoted a certain amount and ended up paying more than double. They even asked for more money. Once they realized I wasn't going to pay it, the "niceness" went away. They didn't care about helping a single mom, they saw my bank account and wanted to drain it. By the way, I wasn't filing for child support but my attorney did anyway...I guess it was his way of finding out how much money I had. Any person that is ok taking money that's meant to care and provide for a child, is not a decent human. I was seriously disappointed in the whole staff. read more

I wasted so much money just to end up firing them and having to do things myself, even though the courts told me my pending documents were documents I had done WITH the McCoy Fatula team. With all the money I spent, you'd think the documents would have been submitted. My case was black and white - my ex and I agreed to everything, even custody. I was even told by the lawyer it should be easy and I shouldn't need more money than the retainer I paid. Months after going back and forth, the same forms needing to be filled out again and again, more money being paid to them, I was told my ex and I could both come in and be done quickly. Trying to find a date where myself, my ex, and the lawyer were available was such a mess - if I ask to get a list of dates that the lawyer would be available, you'd think the list would be more than one date . I should have just done it myself and saved my money from the beginning. read more

Mr. Fatula took my case and after 5 months of doing nothing, I had my first meeting with the associate counsel and it became apparent that she had no strategy and did not see spousal support as critical. They were fired that day. They kept the $5k retainer without ever filing a motion. Note that in addition to the excessive fees I lost months of temporary spousal support. Temporary support can be filed based on the schedule C. Nothing but a waste of time and money. read more

Mr. Fatula represented me in a family law matter in 2013. That ended successfully and I felt confident enough in Mr. Fatula's work to begin referring friends and family members to him for their family law needs. People began coming back to me saying they were surprised by the cost or they had lost their case for reasons they didn't understand. I hadn't experienced that with this office, despite seeing the other reviews listed here. In 2017, I had to retain Mr. Fatula for another family law matter. This time, it was impossible for me to communicate with Mr. Fatula directly. I tried to be understanding of the fact that his practice had grown, but his lack of availability was frustrating. My matter was set for trial last fall. Everything went as planned, but when it was time to get the final order... nothing. Radio silence. Dead air. When I attempted to call the office to find out where my final order was and why it was delayed, I was charged every single time, which is ordinarily acceptable, however, I felt given the circumstances that I was being taken advantage of. I wasn't allowed to speak to either Mr. Fatula or the senior paralegal, both of whom were the only ones I trusted in the office to have accurate information and give me straight answers. This only made things As the months ticked by, I grew more and more frustrated. Finally, much to my dismay and disappointment and after being snapped at by the legal secretary, Imanee, for asking questions about my situation, I asked for a third time to sub Mr. Fatula out my case. At this point, my final order had been missing for 3 months. Once I subbed Mr. Fatula out, I began calling the court in Sacramento CA. Within a week, my order was found and a few days later, in my hand. Where was it, you ask? According to the courthouse, it was put in Mr. Fatula's attorneys box at the courthouse in November. He claims he never received it. To be fair, the attorneys box is in a public area in the court house and can be accessed by anybody walking by. It is possible that somebody else grabbed it by accident, but another attorney would have returned it. I believe it was stolen in an attempt to delay settlement in the case, but I'll never know for sure. What I do know, is that I WAS loyal to McCoy Fatula. Mr. Fatula literally saved my life helping me get away from CA, and I will always be eternally grateful for that. But when push came to shove, I trusted Mr. Fatula and his staff and they let me down in a big way. I went back and forth about writing this review, but yesterday, after receiving an email where I was essentially spoken to like I was stupid, (Rachel received the same email and simply did what I asked!) I made the decision to review McCoy Fatula, quite honestly, in various platforms. In the future, I will take my business elsewhere. I suggest you do the same. If you do move forward with this firm, make sure Rachel (senior paralegal) is in the office while your case is being handled. I feel if she hadn't been on leave when my trial happened, none of this would have occurred. read more

Demeanor changed from capable to incompetent once they had my deposit. Incompetence leads to many expensive communications going back and forth and regularly and expensive breakdowns between opposing counsel. These breakdowns usually occurred 1 day before final filing dates of course. Instead of filing papers, the frivolous hearings require attorneys attend which is VERY expensive sitting around. The attorneys would communicate breakdowns with opposing counsel through e-mail and letter with 5 minutes left in the business day so they could rack up After 5: PM premium expenses. The attorney won't know the details that lead to the breakdown, but they will charge you for the a letter, e-mail and call. Calls to assigned Jr. underling attorney are dodged and result in being connected to Fatula or McCoy where they have no direct understanding of your case. It's expensive and quickly burns away at trust money, so expect no straight answers regarding your case. Oh,, you'll get a straight answer that your working trust fund is out of money and needs more money for them to continue your case the day before a hearing. They couldn't keep track of case details and parties assets, residence, place of employment etc... Filings that needed signatures were repeatedly wrong needing correction. They will gladly eat away at your money to "try again". Documents and copies of documents were repeatedly lost. They request documents they don't need and share documents with opposing counsel they have no privilege to. They do not act as "Legal Counsel" because though they bill for "legal research" will never provide you a legal answer. The actual work is left to paralegal staff and attorneys do not review documents for accuracy to detriment of you the client. As your case comes to an end and has $1000's left in trust. You will not be sent the remaining funds in your trust, instead you will have to go to their office with a copy of the last bill they sent you. There they hide in their offices while the clerk retrieves an updated bill. This bill will have many in house meetings with one another and fluff billings burning up 95% of your trust. Expect them to try and convince you that the previous bill regarding amount left in trust is actually how much you still owe them. read more

We were very disappointed with this firm. I recommend using anybody else. We had a divorce in the family. We were told it would cost 10-12 thousand dollars. It cost us about $30,000. Every little bit of communication coming or going was charged at an unreasonable rate. emails, phone calls, no matter how insignificant, all got charged regardless of who we talked to in the office. We were treated like people that don't pay their bills with the office demanding payment the next day. We always had a positive balance and were treated rudely. The lines of communication were minimal. We were told the process would take about six months. It lasted about thirteen months. Responses to questions were very slow in coming and confusing. The opposing council seemed to win most of the time. Do yourself a favor and seek representation elsewhere. read more

I don't recommend this firm to anyone going through a family law case. I was represented poorly, billed dishonestly, come on, one quick response to say "YES" in an email will cost you $75. The guy even called me on Xmas eve to tell me I had a balance due!! Who does that? If divorce isn't stressful enough these guys will take your money and bill you dishonestly. Staff sucks because I got personal filings of one of their clients mailed to my house. Talk about unprofessional and breach of confidentiality. Don't waste your money with them. Very poor staff, the Attorneys that work here treated me very dishonestly. I cant say how bad they truly are or use names as McCoy fatula threatened to sue me. I paid them the retainer fee they requested, after two months, no facts or any progress in my divorce. I then found that this law firm had not filed any case or even prepared a single document. I fired the law firm and requested my retainer back, I was told at that time i actually owed money to the law firm????? Yes they told me i had no retainer, I produced a receipt the law firm them told me to waiit and I would get a check for the retainer. What I recieved was less than one third of my retainer and a file with a prepered three sentence case. I was furious with them and I left to avoid problems. I had to file a complaint with the attorney generals office as well as the state bar association. do not trust this law firm to be honest with you read more

I'd never needed an attorney before and was recommended to McCoy by a friend. I was nervous and honestly didn't know what to expect. From day one they were extremely patient and informative, helping me along through the entire process. If I could rate less I would. My ex and I not only had personal assets but a business. My previous attorney was not familiar with the business side so I sought an attorney who "claimed" to know that side as well. The partner who provided me a free consultation talked a good talk. He seemed young, knowledgeable, professional, and a go getter. Well young yes, and go getter for your money. 1st of all, he hires attorneys with 0-5 years experience. I didn't realize that until my attorney ditched that firm. She didn't get guidance and was left floundering. I felt she needed help and assumed she was getting it. The new guy looked like he didn't even shave yet. I asked about his experience and he said he had his own firm and was "in business" for 1 whole year!! It just didn't feel good and my ex was using a former judge, Cecil something or another in Roseville. So I told the young green attorney I would consider using him but wanted to think about it. The next week they called me in and he said he couldn't take my case because it was too confusing and too much paperwork to read before my next hearing in 2 weeks. Well.... I represented myself at the mediation before a trial was actually set. It was scary as hell but I saved money and realized how worthless my attorney was. I negotiated my own deal and feel it was fair and what I wanted. Do not use this Firm. It's a very emotional time but get a friend who isn't emotional to help you. I was referred by an investment firm that stated they had good rates on a Will and Trust for me in my situation. Waiting room had strange vibe with trinkets with firm name in them for sale. Like, who says " oh! I really need that cheap water bottle with my attorney name in it" Ok, so over-looked that. Meet with main guy. We spoke in general terms about the Trust (sales pitch) and it was $500 more than any quote I received. I also has some financial issues regarding past marriage that needed to be resolved. Thought it made sense to do both at same firm. Then a young fella came in in re divorce. He lacked general knowledge had an aggressive take. Fell for that to. That was months ago. Only communication after that was billing notifications that they were taking money out of my retainer. Also some requests for additional paperwork. (I was admittedly slow filling out as I was already frustrated. After a few months of nothing, I got an email that junior was no longer handling my divorce and that Fatula would be handling in personally. Awesome I thought. Again, nothing. Finally I sent an email. Fatula called my quickly, stating nothing has happened with either. He was honest and credited some money back to my retainer. I give him credit here but but sure a star should be rewarded for not reaching the lowest bar. They spend a lot of money in advertisement... Including Yelp and ESPN. You can make up you own opinions there. I have a meeting set up this week. Sadly, I am still open minded. Worst money I have ever spend at this point.
