Their char grilled chicken burgers and special Dougie's sauce has everyone coming back for more, so it's easy to say while we might not be able to miss the fire-engine walls, we sure do miss those burgers every time we part a bittersweet farewell from the shop. Prices are relatively cheap ( it's no Macca's or Hungry Jacks, it's fellow competitors around Hurstville) but you can snag a decent meal for under $10 including a burger, chips and drink. But what makes Dougie's so special is its special Dougie's sauce that we just can't get enough of. On your chips, with your chicken or in your burger, it is crucial that you order that sauce with your meal next time you stop by and I'm saying 'next' because I'm certain that once you've been there, you'll be running back for more.

Sign says "voted in the top 10 burgers" by the Daily telegraph…read more My flavour of the month is burgers. Im on a burger mission around town. Lard help my waistline, and forgive me for I have sinned in gluttony. Dougies grill looks pretty unassuming from the outside, all bar the afore mentioned signage. It never looks very busy. I've been here once before and thought it was O.K. That was before my crusade for the holy burger grail. The staff there were, although attentive immediately, rather non-plussed by their job. I asked if the chilli she offered was hot or not, and she just shrugged. I opted for a little bit, and Im glad I did... i assume this is Dougie's sauce which is mentioned on the menu. I got the Aussie burger which costs $7.95. Seems steep, but when we compare to most gourmet burger prices, which I shall mention in other reviews, this is but a fraction of the cost for a burger, that to my mind was excellent. I admit I added more mayo when I got back to the lunch room, but that's just a personal preference and I didnt ask for extra. Burger tasted chargrilled but with the right amount of seasoning. It doesnt look at all like a fancy burger, but trust me, it tasted awesome. it contained all the things youd expect from an aussie burger aka beetroot and BBQ sauce. Conveniently near the train station. Stop in next time youre in Kogtown . you wont regret it.

Actually the parking in this area here is still a bit of a mission but who cares because once you're inside and that first sip of sweet sweet Aperol Spritz hits your lips you'll forget all about the roving bands of rabid North Sydney Council Rangers and sink into sunshine, views, and a big, airy, Hampton-esque fitout that'll have you sitting up to beg for buttermilk, if that's a beverage you're partial to and don't mind grovelling for, because it's not on this menu, or any menu that I'm aware of outside of, I don't know, Iowa cow country. The premises are still owned by North Sydney Leagues Club, so if you're inside the 5km radius you'll need to become a member ($10 for 3 years + they send you drink vouchers = deal of the century), but it's worth it for long lunches, rustic drinks, a petting zoo on Sundays, and my new favourite co-working spot: the outside tables with a long black and a fresh breeze tickling my chin whiskers. Completely irrelevant fact: I had my 21st birthday here back when it was a bowlo.

The ingredients at Lashings always taste fresh, and burgers are made-to-order. A burger will cost you anywhere from $7.40 (for a classic Harvey burger) to $9.90 (for the Double Decker). Add $3.80 onto the price and you've got yourself a meal. Sure, it's a little more expensive than McDonalds, but the quality and serving sizes are far superior to that of any fast-food joint. Service at Lashings is always prompt, but frantic. By Saturday afternoon, the place is packed with dozens of sore heads trying to recover from the night before. Despite this, service is still pretty fast. Not McDonald's fast, but made-to-order fast. Took a few minutes to figure out how it works - you order at the counter, he gives you a bucket with a number, cutlery and sauces, then you can take a seat - which by the way the night we were there were at a premium. Beer and wine available - take a tip, have a beer, the wine is served in a tumbler and a bit ordinary. The menu is as the name suggests - ribs and burgers. Lip-smackingly-good sounding ribs and burgers. We were both on a ribs mission, so although the burgers looked and smelt fantastic, pork ribs it was. These babies are the premium price, with beef and lamb also on offer and sides of fries, salads and wings all available. The ribs came pretty quick and they tasted wonderful. Like all ribs, they looked big on the plate, but I have to say I could have had two. The serving size is about half of Hurricanes, but in reality it is adequate. The fries are unreal - buy a plate, you won't regret it. All the food is served on enamel tin plates, also pretty funky and of course pretty much bullet proof. I would have to say next time I will be sure to order some wings to start, cos they look great and I could use the extra. Watching the folks around devor their burgers they also look pretty schmick - a few to choose from so it might take a few visits to get the range! And the good news is, I will definitely be back.
