Like most of the businesses in Gent, this McDonalds is housed in a beautiful historic building. The exterior is restored but the inside is all modern and redone. I like to go to McDo's in foreign countries to see what items they have that we can't get in the U.S. After eating dinner, I came here to get the McCafe macarons and the speculoos McFlurry! They have these giant self-service screens for you to order and pay, and then you just have to wait to pick up your order, but I've been having trouble using my credit card at self service kiosks in Europe, so I just went up to the cashier to place my order (my cc worked fine there). I had to wait a long time for my food - which is kind of weird because none of things I ordered required cooking or much preparation, other than sprinkling the speculoos crumble on the ice cream. But there were A LOT of people there waiting for food. They call out the order numbers in both Dutch and English. There's seating downstairs but upstairs is the way to go if you're going to eat there. Especially if you can get a table facing the churches and historic buildings of Korenmarkt. For the macarons (which you would think would be called McArons lol), I got one of each flavor: vanilla, choco, caramel, pistachio, raspberry, and speculoos! The macarons were all right - definitely not the fanciest quality, but it was fun to get and try them all. The speculoos was good! And the speculoos McFlurry was very good!!! If you look speculoos cookies, you'll definitely like it on top of soft serve ice cream! This location is convenient (was really close to my hostel and to Korenmarkt), takes credit card, and there's free wifi. read more
