Talk endlessly about foods that we miss in Australia. Ah, isn't this a beautiful tree? I miss breakfast burritos. Look at this view! Where can I get a good pizza? Do you think there are poisonous snakes here? Ah, I would kill for a decent burger! The standard for a good burger is quality meat, with a decent amount of fat, crisped up on a griddle, but not over-cooked to a hockey puck. There must be American cheese, melty, smooth, without much taste. Toppings must be complimentary to the meat - not a distraction. After our hike in the hinterlands, we were hungry from all this talk of food, but resigned to eat something half-way decent just to refuel after our not-so-gruelling walk. I did a quick search on Yelp and found a burger place in nearby Ferngully. There were no reviews, but there were pictures that had me exclaiming "Legit". The Man said, "no one says legit anymore." We drove as fast as we could to On It. After some explanations about the menu from the waiter, and specifically the smashed steak burger, we all ordered and waited patiently. In the meantime, super crispy onion rings showed up at the table with some super spicy sauce. We loved them, even if our mouths were on fire. Then the burgers came.... and we were all 4 very happy ex-pats. The burgers were nigh perfect. Ratios were just right, if a little heavy on the mayo. We left On It, impressed. As a further testament, I would probably even drive way out there to the hinterlands to have that burger again. I should probably work up an appetite first with a hike, just to be on the safe side.

The Black Jack is a Hong Kong and Japanese fusion burger, a delicious and flavoursome burger which consisted of American cheese, bacon, grilled mushroom, spanish onion, lettuce, tomato, black pepper sauce and japanese mayo. What really stood out to me here was the black pepper sauce, the sauce was pungent and empowered the flavour of the burger as a whole. The Red Lantern is a Japanese and Thai fusion burger which consisted of american cheese, bacon, spanish onions, lettuce, tomato and wasabi mayo. Once again, the burger was tender and juicy and the ingredients worked well with each other. You can't really go wrong with fresh ingredients. I still remember when I was much younger we would always belt away at the pinball machines while waiting for our chips to be cooked. However, the offer more than just fish and chips (and I must say that their chips are really good - I simply couldn't stop eating them on the way home) as they also have chicken as well, and some other goodies that I can't quite remember. I am shocked that it took me so long to come here, especially since I would walk past it every day on my way to church. I guess it was the distance that was the problem, but it certainly is a great place for some good old fish and chips.

My friend and I were seated on a very wobbly table outside (which also sent a glass of water into my lap after the table tipped towards me) which was rectified by moving. Also a wobbly table, this was fixed by stacking a pile of napkins underneath. Coffee orders were taken promptly but food took ages. I ordered myself the Mediterranean eggs Benedict and my friend had the mushrooms on toast. It was about 45 minutes before the food came out and it was such a disappointment. My food was more tasteless than plain rice. It was supposed to be poached eggs, sitting atop shredded pork shoulder on Turkish bread, topped with jalapeños, coriander and hollondaise sauce. The whole thing was bland and soggy. Hollondaise was too runny and not well seasoned. Eggs overcooked. My pork shoulder was so watery it tasted like boiled pork and sitting atop the Turkish bread just meant the whole thing was soggy. The only flavour I could actually taste was the coriander. My friend who had the mushrooms was also quite unimpressed with her meal. The food is on the pricier side however is in line with other hip places. The chai latte is always well brewed with actual tea and served a brown platter. The coffee always looks pretty and friends say it is an average coffee. I come here as there is always parking, the food is the same price as Glen Waverley Cafes and on par for quality. The food ranges from muesli - bacon and eggs - smashed ago - burger - pasta which caters for a variety of people I enjoy catching up with. Will be back for the convenice however the most recent visit I was a bit disappointed with the floors and tables not being well kept and food order taking some time.

It was good though - juicy patty, proportionate bun-to-meat ratio and the chilli cheese fries were nice as well. It didn't have all the necessary qualities and the wow factor to becoming my new favourite burger but I'd highly recommend it if you are in the area.
