This was a visit borne of desperation and ordinarily I wouldn't think of this place…read more We were fed up with Christmas turkey, ham, roast beef, pork & chestnut stuffing and salmon. We couldn't face another mince pie or slice of pudding either. Talk about first world problems. It was a cold New Year's Day and I wasn't even sure I'd find a place that was open. The two places I wanted to be open weren't - Soi 9 Thai & Dragon Express - so I ended up here as it was one of two Chinese take outs with lights on. Spice of India on the same almost empty street was open but if you read my review on it you'll see why I opted for Chinese. I didn't know what I wanted to eat but my wife had decided on salted chilli chicken, so when I looked at the menu it had a meal for two deal at £13.80 that included salted chilli chicken so I ordered it. The deal was this chicken meal, chicken fried rice, chicken curry, a tub of curry sauce, cheap and unpleasant, pre prepared prawn crackers and a small portion of chips. The food was a bit better than ok but I couldn't say it was really good so a border line three stars. And while it was ok it's certainly not on my return visit list.

It was ok. I won't go back again. I disliked my meal at the start as it wasn't what I had ordered…read more I was the only customer in a faded, tired place with two tired faded staff sitting idle until I went in. I asked for king prawn salt & chilli with noodles and a salt & chilli chicken with fried rice. Both meals cost £14.30. As it was my first visit I emphasised that the meals must be dry. He confirmed yes. I insisted the prawns had only a light batter, a small amount of chilli and he said that the batter is light. On reaching home neither dish was dry rather they were an oily, sugar/water solution. I guess each meal had at least a half dozen spoons of white sugar - this is poor, cheap rubbish stuff. The meals also came with copious amounts of scarce cooked onions. Neither chilli dish contained a scintilla of fresh red chilli. Again this is food where no expense is spent - the idea is to make the cheapest rubbish possible to maximise all important profits and to heck with the customer or their health. Being sugary wet the king prawn batter which was a heavy batter (not light) became wet and soggy very fast. As was the case here. The prawns were also well over cooked. The fried rice was very good though and I didn't open the noodles. Living in a city where we have only crap rip off Chinese places has become tedious.

I really don't know what the fuss is about this place. It serves overpriced, industrially produced,…read morerubbish food. I know people who have moved away to work and live and when they return home for visits a stop here is a must for them. I find that sad. I was with a group who decided to go here for their chicken burger and chips. It would never be my choice but I was well outnumbered. It was takeaway given the Wu flu and while I had this rubbish bought for me but I think it was around £7.5 for chicken breast burger & chips with a Diet Coke. The burger included a white bread roll and coleslaw. The chicken had a coating that was barely ok. The coleslaw was predominantly thin sliced white cabbage with a very well thinned down factory made mayonnaise. Euch. The Diet Coke was flat and had an unpleasant chemical note to its smell/taste. The factory made chips were a good size, cooked in a factory refined veg oil rather than animal fat but they were poorly cooked so they were limp and lukewarm and a deeply unpleasant eat after only a few minutes. The bread roll had all the texture of how I imagine damp cardboard - in short poor. Hunger made me eat the industrial chicken, I had some of the top part of the factory made bread roll and two chips. This is nasty food - it has the edge on Mc D's - but at the price it's sheer rip off. Hopefully I won't re experience this place. If you want this type of food try making your own as the quality and taste difference will be huge and your tummy and intestines will thank you.
