The Biltmore Bar & Grill - Truly awesome steak: the petit chateau with Guinness and soy reduction

I imagine it's even better at night. The cocktails were very pricey but absolutely perfect in every way. I didn't enjoy the food I ordered , the beef tartare, but that was purely because I didn't realise that it was going to be raw meat and it disturbed me somewhat! I would highly recommend this place but make sure you've got plenty of money to spare.

Take their Freaky Music Friday's for example which is a total must if, like me, you love a really good dance off. I stumbled in here with two work colleagues on a bitterly cold sleepy Wednesday night. I confess mostly I was happy to get out of the cold but I was ultimately lured in by the Wednesday's Half Price Steak night. We were not disappointed. I'm not so bothered by décor as I'll take good food over posh wallpaper any day, but if it's your thang then this place is very nicely styled. We quickly skimmed over the excessively priced wine list, selected a discounted Happy Hour bottle of Malbec and headed straight to the decent choice of cut price steak list. Overall I can't begin to recommend highly enough: 1. The steak - probably one of the best I have ever had, so tender, melt in the mouth tasty and a total bargain £17.00 for their 300g petit chateau (that's the best cut from the middle of a fillet btw) 2. The amazing Guinness and Soya reduction. It was a tough call to divert my attention away from the amazingly sublime smokey peppercorn I'd chosen but I couldn't resist dipping into my colleagues more than a few times after the first taste! 3. The service. Superbly attentive, perhaps a little too keen but it was a quiet night 4, The Happy Hour half priced bottle of Malbec and bargain steaks. We were unanimous in our 'too stuffed for desert or coffee' verdict so I can't comment on anything else on the menu on this occasion but I am persuaded enough to come back here again and not just to swing my booty about on a Freaky Friday Dance night. 10/10 Biltmore Bar & Grill.

Came to this restaurant with a vegetarian friend who doesn't usually get to eat at BBQ restaurants, but the menu had a wide selection of alternatives. Meals were impeccable, would 10/10 eat again. The flavor and smokiness of the meats was spot on, and passed the "no sauce" test easily. All meats had a good smoke rinThe ribs were my favorite, followed by the chicken. The breast was tender and juicy, no dry at all. The brisket was satisfactory, good flavor, but I like it a bit fattier than what was put out. That's a very tough cut to get perfect, but it was perfectly edible as is. The sauces were god; complimented the meats well. This misses one star for the slaw. It is a Carolina style sweet & sour, but it wasn't quite sweet & sour enough. I applied some NC vinegar based bbq sauce, which improved it a lot. The staff was efficient and very pleasant, and provided great information about the food and restaurant. I'd come back, and will state for the record that this is true American style Smoked BBQ.

So, after a…read morenightmare situation with taxis, I finally made it over for the second Yelp outing for drinks in H-town. It was absolutely packed out, full of merry drinkers, with a busy bistro. A good sign if you take popularity to mean a jolly spot. After hellos and apologies to the chaps, I trotted over to the bar with Claire R to see what treats were in store. It's a standard affair in terms of your lagers and such, with a few world lagers on, including Kozel. I initially went for the Leeds Brewery Lager, since it's a decent local brew, and crammed myself in to the table we'd acquired. It's also a dressy affair - seems to be the place to doll up, as there were a fair few glitzy outfits going on, and all the Christmas cheer on show in terms of décor. The staff were the stand out bit for me. Having gotten a few sips down on the Leeds lager, I realised it was totally flat so returned it to the bar in exchange for a Kozel. This was no problem at all, the chap explained he'd just changed it but it still seemed funky so we switched. The only downer was that the Kozel didn't fare to well either, as it was also flat. Boo indeed. Next up was the mission to get burgers. We'd assumed we needed to table it up in the bistro, so I asked about tables - without booking it'd be an hour wait, which was actually really decent considering how busy they were. I asked if we could order food in the bar, and huzzah! Yes indeed. So that's what we did. Even ordering separately they brought it all out at the same time, which was grand, and the girl at the bar needs special mention - she was extremely helpful and friendly. To the burgers. Brioche buns, coleslaw, a choice of chips, fries or salad, and a small side salad is what you get, for ten or twelve quid. (Can't quite recall the price.) The burgers are certainly of a good size, and the meat quality was evident, but there was just something missing from the flavour to fully capture my ravenous carnivore. Not juicy enough? Meat was too packed together for the full effect? It was seasoned nicely, but didn't have that beef to it, if you'll pardon the pun. Also, the cheese didn't seem fully apparent (couldn't taste it at all) - perhaps because the bacon took over. If I were to rate just the burger, it'd be 3/5. Fair. The fries, however, were heavenly. And by the look of the chips, I made the wrong choice - they stole the show. (Which was discussed as not being necessarily a good thing.) All in all, I liked the festive busy atmosphere, the front garden bit looks ace for summer, the staff were totally excellent, but the food and drinks let it down a little for me. In overall balance, it's a firm a-ok on the richter scale. Or, rather, the Yelp scale.

Retaining the same sort of relaxed vibes that it had when it was Stuart's all that time ago, this bar/restaurant is definitely somewhere to check out, whatever your needs. I've been both during the day and for an evening meal, and, on both occasions, Bar 166 impressed me greatly. During the day, it is usually quite quiet, enabling you to enjoy a coffee and a conversation in the effortlessly cool interior. If you fancy lunch, they offer an extensive day-time menu which ranges from small snacks to 'Fillers' - if you're there during the day, I'd recommend the duck salad - it's glorious. I've never eaten here on an evening, but I have stopped for a drink, and got quite a surprise at how busy the bar section was. Given the chilled out atmosphere and the well-priced booze, however, on second thoughts, I shouldn't have been surprised at all.

Any establishment in which the staff sport t-shirts with the phrase 'If there are no hot dogs in…read moreheaven, I'm not going' emblazoned across their backs, is bound to catch my attention. A new addition to the ever growing Corn Exchange, I knew when their official opening day was and decided to sample a Primo's gourmet hot dog for myself. The location of the cafe complements the magnitude and architectural beauty of the Corn Exchange. Situated on the middle floor at ground level, seating spills out onto the balcony area, creating a feel of being openly invited to visit. After experiencing so many poor quality and insipid versions of the hot dog, I was curious to discover what precisely gave their offerings that gourmet status. A friend and I ordered the Classic Chicago (all beef frankfurter with chopped white onions, pickles, tomato wedges, celery salt, ball park mustard and a dill pickle spear) and the Dodge City (bockwurst sausage topped with Primo's chilli, West Virginia coleslaw and Monterey Jack cheese.) What a hot dog-based revelation! The bread was delicious, unrecognisable from the soggy, doughy monstrosities that inferior outlets serve. As the sandwiches were made to order, tailoring the contents to your own individual preference was possible. The ingredients were extremely fresh, full of flavour and contributed to making the best hot dog creation I have ever tasted. The staff were charming and friendly, clearly a little apprehensive with regards to their opening, but I had arrived after giving them only 10 minutes to settle in. The constant flow of customers was proof of how the residents of Leeds have been awaiting their city centre presence. Primo's offers a full menu of substantial salads, sumptuous smoothies and delicious cakes. I can attest to the Pecan Pie being devilishly fantastic. I really enjoyed my first experience of this local business, and am looking forward to devouring my way through the entire menu. The perfect hot dog? You'd be barking if you missed out.

You should all know by now that this is the place in Leeds to grab a gourmet hotdog. My personal favourite is the Classic Chicago, only with cheese instead of the hot pickle, since I'm a spice wuss. It's just meltingly delicious and so affordable for a quick lunch. Get some extras and you'll be sorted well into tea time. The temptation of 241 on a Thursday is also an added bonus; those of us more inclined to be piggy can simply gorge two of these delicious meat lengths for the price of one, or those of us more romantic can take a date for a special treat. (Just an idea.) However, I have new information. Not only can you partake of their main fare, and the many quirky oddities on display (such as Fluff and Peanut M&Ms) but you can now also get beer. Winner! Millers, amongst other decent bottles, now stand proud in the fridge of drinkable delights and they're even starting a regular live music evening. Sound awesome? Yes it does. This, though, is not my biggest news. Banana. Latte. It's changed my life. Who knew a wee shot of that magic nectar could make what was once a tasty caffeine fuelled necessity into an elongated pleasurable moment in time? Not me, but I do now. Essentially, I don't even know how it works. Should those two combinations of taste even work? I daren't question it lest it disappear in a puff of wonder. But banana in latte is flippin' awesome. All round winzies for you all.
