This Mcdonalds is unique because there are no chairs and tables anywhere near the stand-alone mall restaurant. There are also no self-serve computer order kiosks. Eating in is not an option. Note that I came around 9pm on a Monday so maybe they took all the tables away earlier. Years ago when I visited this location, they had many chairs and tables just outside and inside the restaurant. Due to the awful area, a lot of homeless people were hanging around just sitting. Not necessarily eating. Now with the chairs and tables gone, there are barely any of them hanging around so I guess it's for the better. It didn't eliminate the problem entirely because as soon as I stepped out of the restaurant area I was asked a couple times by several people for a "rolling paper", extra change, or a lighter. Also, I noticed some of the windows of the restaurant were broken and boarded up with plywood. Yikes. It was VERY hot out (30 degrees!) So I decided to visit this McDonalds for a cheap but delicious frozen treat. I wanted to try their new peach smoothie but they ran out of it. I came later at 9pm so it's not surprising but it's still disappointing because I love peach smoothies. I settled for their strawberry banana smoothie. The smoothie I bought was delicious so I think it is very much worth it. It was refreshing and I could actually taste the strawberries and Banana flavors in it. In my opinion, a medium size is just enough to cool you down on an extremely hot day. Overall, their fruit smoothies are good! Good price too as it was "summer drinks day" time so it was only $2 for a medium one ($2.38 after tax and cup fee). Service could be better. There was a group of homeless looking people in front of me counting every dime, nickel and quarter to pay for their food so it took a really long time to wait to get my order in. There were 4 cash registers. Usually, another staff member would jump in and take another order using the other register but none came. Only one register was available and there were no self-serve kiosks. I had to wait 5-6 minutes to wait and get my order in even though there was only one order in front of me. Once I got my order in, it took a little longer than expected to get my smoothie, maybe 3-4 minutes. Usually it would take 1-2 minutes if it was not busy like this visit. I have a feeling that this Mcdonalds is either understaffed or just slow. Overall, I'd avoid this location if possible. Slower than expected service, and the type of people that are walking around in the area are not very, say, totally normal. Also there's nowhere to eat your food at the restaurant or near it. Kinda inconvenient. It's a decent grab and go place for the kind of stuff where you can walk and enjoy your food such as smoothies. Only giving 2 stars for the reasons stated above. I recommend you go to the slightly better Mcdonald's nearby instead. It's by Main Street - Science World skytrain station but only one short subway stop away from the Chinatown - Stadium Skytrain Station by the mall. read more

I walked into the restaurant around 6pm this evening and was told that if I wanted to order anything from the menu, it had to be either a filet o fish or a chicken burger. Otherwise I would have to wait anywhere from a 1/2 hour to 45 minutes because nobody (and I quote) nobody wanted to go into the back freezer for any of the beef patties and all that they had ready were the fish or chicken patties that had been sitting out under the warmer for a few hours! read more

Yet another McDonald's. The location is quite cramped, there are barely enough seats. In fact, there is only 1 4-person table here. Everything else is either 2 seats, or bar seating. There were some weirdos in line. As in people who would come up to you and touch you. My food came out okay though. But yeah, you definitely don't want to eat in here. As the 2 stars say, meh, I've experienced better....but then I thought to myself...it's no fault of the staff that they are stuck in this neighborhood. So I'm changing this to a 3. Because, I'm glad this McD's is here. After a late night of drinking cheap booze at the local dive bars, guess who's open at 2-3 am? This place. And it's McD's so the food quality is consistent and cheap. Sure it's a small location with two tables, but this just means that you find less hobo's sleeping in the restaurant late at night. Sure it might smell of hobo's late at night but if this was a full size McD's, it would stink even more with more of them sleeping in the restaurant if this restaurant is bigger. So really, I'm glad that it's a small quick serve McD's. The staff are managing the best they can and they really do try and serve you with a smile. I feel like a workinG girl coming in from a long night of work, tired, disheveled, worn out and just need a coffee. That's just what I needed to hit the spot . Lots of character here, you have the DT east side, students and Chinatown. Expect long lineups when hockey is in town or a concert. I personally don't mind dropping for takeout only but not to dine in haha. Noisy and panhandlers and all, just want to enjoy my meal. But action for sure. Open 24 hours, 2 counters and slow service. I come here every morning as it is close to work, and they do acceptable cheap coffee. Gastown has a wealth of great coffee shops, but when the day is beginning, I just need some cheap, strong coffee in me, and this does the job. BUT I would never dream of sitting down in here. There is without fail a number of strange people in here every time I go. The type that will sometimes push past, be weird, sometimes a little aggressive. I in general hold my breath in here, grab my coffee, and get out of there as fast as possible ;) read more

I don't like giving low reviews but this place wasn't great. The staff were very unenthusiastic and moody, and there were shouting customers. It just felt like a very uncomfortable place to be. Have grabbed a burger here a few times. Full McDonalds menu with limited seating, although I'm not sure you would really want to dine in even if there was. Certainly not in a nice part of town. Normally fairly quick service, even when busy. The staff are sometimes quite short and grumpy, though I can't blame them -- I would be too with the clientele this McD's serves, who are often rude, belligerent junkies. If you're just looking for a quick bite for lunch, this McDonalds is alright. Wouldn't recommend it for families, though. read more

If any of your bad reviews are due to employees, you're awful. This is an bad McDonald's location due to the staff having to deal with everything the downtown east side dishes at them. I've witnessed everything from people.stealing others orders to releasing bodily fluids on the floor. These workers deserve medals. The food is acceptable and as quick as they can make it and I have never encountered a mean employee although I would not blame them if they were bitter. Definitely would avoid bringing my kids here as well as avoid in the nighttime unless you're inebriated enough to handle it. Good if you need a quick snack, as McDonald's always is, but make sure you have patience for the endeavour you're about to take on. The clientele is not the fault of the restaurant: they literally can't do anything about the homeless people begging you to buy them a burger as you wait in line. And yes, it's super busy here and sometimes you have to wait a while. But the food that comes out is probably the freshest I've had in any McD's location in Vancouver. Everything is always piping hot, including the coffee, and the staff just do their very best. read more

Wow - too much alcohol lately... McDonalds you are getting lots of business because of people like me who need something greasy to soak up all the alcohol from the night before. Being so close by, we walked in around 10:30. The gate to the tinseltown mall was still down (probably becuase Tinseltown was not officially opened yet)... leaving the space to be super small and everyone had to jam into this corner. It was raining so we had to walk around the outside, while the sidewalk cleaner had no respect and continued to splash his hard hose less than a metre from the door. As I walked in, the place smelled like wet clothes, and everyone seemed impatient and just wanted his food. There was only one person on the til, with a lineup of around 5 people and service was S-L-O-W. I shouldn't have convinced my bf to get the big breakfast... poor guy, it was the longest thing to make. Two people ordered after us and they got their food even while we were still waiting. Good thing he didn't order a coffee - the drink (OJ) was just sitting there as we probably waited for almost 10 minutes. I must have bad timing. it was packed when we walked in and empty when we walked out. The reason the second star is given is because at least I know the eggs were made to order... at least I think I know. read more

Lousy service, and did I mention, slow? I stopped in, ordered two orders of pancakes and two apple pies. As an afterthought, between customers I stepped in and paid for extra syrup. The woman at the till approached the ditz getting the order together and notified her of the change. A short time later the meal was brought to me and asked for two extra margarine. That was all I got. That and the 2 original syrup I was supposed to get. Upon arrival home I found only two butter and two syrup in the bag. This is where I have experienced some of the nicest mannerisms from mankind--ever--anywhere in my life. It was actually me budged in line to get my fountain drink, and me who was being kind of irritable (was having a bad day, yes, not a reason to complain but I was). But the people here were so kind to me. This is McDonalds in Chinatown. Chinatown being a neighbourhood in the DTES--the poorest postal code in Canada. If you come here, know that you will be in the vicinity of drug addicts, people will mental illness, and people with disease. But will they hurt you? No. Seriously people need to stop judging and open up their minds. I have never been harassed. Yes, I generally feel uneasy with the amount of mental illness and drug use but the people only accost you if you give them a reason to. Don't look at them like they are second class citizens because they're not. They're just like you and me, but we have had a few luckier breaks in life. The last time I was here, when I wanted a fountain drink, I bought a homeless man with schizophrenia some food, even though he didn't harass me to do though. I'd rather give a homeless person food, instead money because you don't know what they will use it on. Okay rant over. :) read more

This McDonalds is ok. The staff is pretty good and very good at dealing with their usual clientele. The usual clientele are the problem. If you don't mind yelling, line-cutting, and smelly individuals taking up seats and blocking your way, come here all the time. If you're scared of homeless people, stay away. read more
