Hello, I have eaten at this restaurant several times over the years and the food has always been good. Today, Sunday March 1st was a special day for my wife and I, and since we haven't been to the restaurant in several months, we thought we'd stop by and get a delicious meal. My wife ordered the seafood dinner with all the various options, and I ordered the New York strip steak with a baked potato and broccoli. Well, I never complain about a meal. Most time if a meal isn't good, I just say thanks and pay my bill. However, I felt so disappointed after leaving here that I doubt we will ever go back. The young blonde girl on staff was not very friendly, but that's OK, because I know people have things going on. However, I said I wanted my steak well-done. As we waited for our meals we had a coffee and a soda. Coffee was very good. Then, the dinners were brought out in a very short time. I was happy about that because I was starving. Anyway, I take a bite of my steak and it's bloody. I was a little upset they didn't bring me what I wanted but I wasn't about to complain. Then, the steak tasted like it was rolled in a bucket of salt and served to me. I've had many steaks over the years, and I had the steak at your restaurant before, so I assumed it would be the same. I can honestly say that in my 46 years I never tasted such a salty piece of steak. I have high Cholesterol as it is, and I felt like I was going to take a stroke. My wife's fish and crab cakes were also loaded with salt. I still didn't say anything because I was trying to be a good guy. But then I tasted the baked potato and that was rolled in salt, too. I ate the skin and it was crunchy with loads of salt. Then, I went to try my broccoli and it was ice cold. At that point I was really thirsty and we both wanted refills on our drinks, but the little blonde girl never came over to ask how was everything or see if we needed refills. I had to ask one of the other young girls to get my check. When she gave me my check she threw it on the table and walked away. The bill came to 54 dollars and I even left her a five dollar tip because I was trying to be a good customer but she would have received a much bigger tip if her manners were better. This was supposed to be a special day for my wife and I, and we specifically chose your restaurant because we always had good food and service during our previous visits. I can honestly say that this was a terrible experience and it destroyed what started out as a good day. I will probably not be back, and that's sad, because at one time this restaurant was one of my favorites, but lately it has been suffering from bad staff and cooks. Not sure whats going on but service really stinks. Was there twice in past week and both times service was terrible. First time it was slowest service ever and only saw waitress three times. Second time was with my elderly mother and the waitress got nasty because we were waiting 15 minutes for a seat & my mom tried to sit at an empty table & was scolded. So there won't be a third time. We stopped at this restaurant today on our way back to NYC. The food, service, and everything else was amazing! Beth was our server and she was incredible. Such a fun lady! Took Mom and uncle to Bob McDonnell's restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner. It was exceptionally good. We were able to ask for white meat OR dark meat -- that seems hard to find. The entire meal was delicious. Top it off with homemade pies that were so yummy!! Service was courteous, friendly, prompt. We got 2 takeouts, and we were wishing we got even more. Bravo!! I have been a frequenter of McDonnell's ever since my father moved to the area. It is a true neighborhood gem complete with taxidermy animals mounted throughout the front dining space. The old world feel combined with the warm smiles of the servers and the good home-cooked food make this place worth stopping by. Most recently, I was here for a meal over the recent July 4th weekend. With few restaurants actually open on the holiday, I was surprised that such a family-style establishment was indeed open for business. My dining partner and I were both ravenous so we ended up ordering meals - his the chicken parmesan, mine the ham steak. We "upgraded" our meal to include a salad (or a soup if you prefer) and dessert for a mere $4. To say that you are served a side salad is an understatement. The salad is huge, and though its base is iceberg lettuce, they include cucumbers, onion, tomatoes, croutons and cheese. The salad alone should be over $4. My meal came and the ham had beautiful grill marks on it, and it was also gigantic (that isn't to say I didn't polish it off....but perhaps I shouldn't have in one sitting). Lightly glazed and served with a grilled slice of pineapple it was also accompanied by my choice of potato (mashed with gravy) and a side (Italian green beans). To top everything off, we also had our choice of homemade desserts. We opted to take ours to go since we were stuffed and I chose the blueberry pie while my friend had the lemon meringue. For a total of $16.95 I received ALL of that food. Personally I am not sure how they can charge such reasonable prices and still stay in business, but as long as they do, I will be a steady presence when I am in town visiting my family. read more

Our dinner was a decent value. The food was simple and a little plain but nicely presented. The house salad was as large as the waitress promised which was a great deal at $3.75. The fried zucchini was a good appetizer. The smoked ham was fine and the grilled cheese and french fries were good. The mashed potatoes were not good. The waitress was courteous and the owner stopped by a few times to say and a tell a joke. Nice guy. The place is very wooden, trying to reference the old days. Wagon wheels used in the railings. If you're looking for fancy, over the top, exquisite cuisine, this is not your restaurant. That being said, I love coming here. The atmosphere is friendly, and the wait staff is very nice and try to get to know you on a more personal level. Service is fast, but not pushy. And the food is made right. Not overly seasoned, yet not so bland as to be called "dull" or "boring." It's the perfect place for me to take my special someone for deep, philosophical conversations over coffee and a burger where even the wait staff occasionally chimes in with their opinions and it's great. For a small restaurant housed in a "quaint little town nestled deep in the heart of the Poconos," I'd say this one is among my favorites. read more

Nothing fancy here but good decent reliable food. I like their red cabbage side. Haven't had a meal I didn't like. Great for breakfast. The many animal heads mounted on the wall are a bit odd but whatever, good desserts, all homemade. read more

I can't remember when I have paid for a worse breakfast! Eggs over cooked and tepid home fries. Ordered my potatoes crispy , got mushy instead. Dry toast no butter on it or offered for it. Coffee only warm and got cooler while we waited for the waitress to bring cream for it. Not that I plan to be in the area again any time soon but won't be eating here again. read more
