I don't generally give such a rating and though I am calm while writing this review I still couldn't think of any other rating. After calling to make an appointment she( receptionist) took my information so she would be able to retrieve my insurance info and then gave me a time to come. VISIT After arriving I was told that they couldn't retrieve it as they don't have any access a database( which is the unskilled part and misleading part, why would she ask my info in the first place). Anyway To get it I tried calling the insurance people but no luck. After 25 minutes when I told her to cancel my appointment as I didn't have insurance info she told me to pay upfront the entire consultation fees and get it reimbursed later. I agreed. CONSULTATION After the nurse did my routine checkup and left, there is this woman ( looked pretty experienced in her 50's ) came with a professional demeanor. Without wasting anytime I told her what my disease could be and she stepped back as if she could become a victim of my contagious state ( which I think was quite unprofessional and uninformed of her as the disease I had was contagious only in few cases). She just came near to check me and then kept her distance for the rest of 2 minutes of the consultation. During that time she made some assumptions which were false and Wrote a one day prescription( I didn't know that it was just for one day until I went to Walgreens to pick it up). She even gave me some partial accurate information about the disease keeping in mind that she seemed to have more that 25 years of experience under her belt. The whole thing went for 3 minutes while she gave me every "symptom" that she wanted to leave the room like step toward the door, body facing the door, eager to finish the conversation etc. I was skeptical about going to this place as there were no yelp reviews but since there are not many clinics available in Ames so it feels like that have some monopoly in the area. I want to add some info to this review. After two months of my appointment, I got a call from some lady in insurance department of the clinic saying that the amount they charged me was not $77 but $177 and they need my insurance information to get the money. She even told me that some adjustments have been made and they have given me a discount of 34 dollars. read more

My family and I have been going to McFarland Clinic for 48 years. In most cases, the doctors, physician assistants and nurses have been great. And, in that time, we have seen many, starting with pediatrics. As a patient you want to be prepared with all relevant sympstoms, medicines you take etc. They are a very busy clinic and unfortunately, in most cases don't have time to just visit which is the way it is in today's hectic schedule. All of us are human and sometimes we have to look for a primary care physician that fits our temperaments. read more

Although about 1/3 of the doctors are good the rest seem to not care about patients but about money. Several seem to have inadequate training. I have been literally hurt by the treatment of 3 of the doctors. Once when I was in intensive care following a botched surgery, a cardiologit had the nerve to tell me I needed open heart surgery. Drugged as i was i asked how soon. He said 6 months. Later I saw a doc in Des Moines who was disgusted by his nerve and told me I didnt need it. Mayo docs also had similar reaction to things Mc Farland doctors did. As a result I avoid this group like the plague. Ames is a one horse town. It's hard for doctors not associated with mc farland to practice here but I drive into Des Moines or to Mayo for medical care rather than put my life in the care of these bozos. read more

Worst clinic ever. Doctors seem interested in only money and prescribing medications that can hurt patient (I have been thus victimized), while the nurses find too little time to do more than lead a patient into a room while receptionists gossip after putting you on hold. I wish there was a half-star rating. read more

I was referred to McFarland Clinic by my Doctor....they refused to see me. Said I had already been looked at by one of their doctors in the arthritis department (whom I have since been told by another doctor in Ames, will not give you the time of day or help you.....which he didn't....said my arthritis won't get any worse from here on out........but it has taken a big turn for the worst) Another reason is because I had been seen by Mayo Clinic......this was a week long clinic for my fibromyalgia and also went to Mercy Clinic in Des Moines. he did nothing for me, except tell me that everything he suggested I do wouldn't help with my pain or the deterioration of my joints, then turned around and said I refused to do as he suggested....no I didn't, he said it wouldn't work...... I can't believe they can turn someone down for this. You can tell they have money and really don't care about people. read more
