I've been here a couple of times before and the food was great. The service was never incredible, but it was sufficient enough. Today my wife and I went there, and were told to seat ourselves. So we did just that. As we were sitting down, my wife made eye contact with a server who was helping other customers. Then... nothing. We were completely ignored for 20 minutes, when we decided to leave and go eat somewhere that actually wanted our money. The 2 stars are for the food on previous visits. I wish I could give it a higher rating. But when no one ever even comes to give you a menu, you really can't justify one. read more

It was my third time here and have enjoyed each experience. Pros: Service is always professional, yet friendly and timely, especially with drink refills. I had a burger this last time and I practically inhaled it due to being so good. I have also enjoyed their fish special. Ambiance is chatty but not excessively loud in any way. Plenty of televisions for watching games. Large parking lot. Neutral: Mashed potatoes and gravy were good, but potatoes were very likely instant instead of homemade. Visited today for the first time. The waitress name was Megan and she was extremely friendly and knowledgeable with our order. My grandmother ordered the meat loaf with mashed potatoes while I had the Irish fish with fries and macaroni and cheese which was delicious. This was the absolute worst visit to a restaurant I have ever had! We had reservations and they were not ready when we got there they even asked other patrons to move to put tables together. It took 30 mins for the waitress to take our drink orders. Our food took longer than that we ordered the food at 6 and it took until 7:15 to get half of our meals and the rest of us took another 15 min The food we did get out was cold!! Not just warm but cold my baked potato wouldn't even melt the butter. We asked for the rest to be boxed as we were ready to go. Spoke with the manager she said the owner was aware of the problem. She told use we would get a discount but when all was said NO ONE got any discount. We were there from 5:30 to 7:30 TWO hours with cold food no drink refills, and no compensation! They did not provide my large water and there was a single layer of chili fries they forgot to put the cheese on it. They were supposed to be chili cheese fries. Tonight was St. Patrick's day and we decided to go out for Irish fare while visiting our son in Battle Creek. We arrived and we were seated right away. I ordered French onion soup and corned beef and cabbage dinner. The waitress came back to the table and told me the French onion soup was unavailable and she recommended the chili instead. When the chili arrived, the chili was cold. And the chili was the consistency of the chili you normally put on hot dogs, not for eating as a soup. I didn't eat it. My son did. The corned beef and cabbage dinner also arrived cold. The carrots were not cooked, they were hard and crunchy. I don't think the dinner was slow cooked all day as my corned beef was very dry. My husband ordered the Killarney chicken sandwich and the meat was tough. There are no dessert choices at this restaurant. I asked for the dessert menu and the waitress said there weren't any. The atmosphere was loud and boisterous. There are 2 large tv's on the wall that were playing sports games for everyone to watch. We probably won't return to this restaurant. This place is a gem. We are from chicago. We brought an entire youth baseball team in along with parents at the last minute. They got us seated. Took our order with individual bills pairing parent with jersey number of their kid. The food is excellent. Truly. Their kitchen doesn't play around. You can tell scratch made when you eat it. The Killians beer battered cod fish and chips are near the best I have ever had. This local joint deserves support. We were surprised with the prices (cheaper than most restaurants now) and quality of food and portions. Disappointing. I called ahead & ordered a pizza. Arrived to find a customer ahead of me for pickup. That customer was given the pizza I ordered. A couple minutes pass before the server asks my name & goes to fetch my order. It's then she realizes the other customer has my pizza. They look out the window to see if she's still in the lot, then discuss with the manager what to do, then they try to phone the customer, I guess to see if she'll come back & trade pizzas. Eventually they tell me they're going to remake my pizza. In exchange for the mix up I received an order of mushrooms at no charge. We have been to McGonigle's several times and we love it. But tonight we are so disappointed. We went in at 7:40pm and were told that food was taking a little longer tonight and it'd be 30-45 minutes. No problem. We sit down and order an appetizer. Comes out quickly. Yay! Then we order our food at about 7:50. We see people come in and sit down after us and also order. We sit there for 30 minutes and then begin to see that food is being brought to tables that sat and ordered after we did. We ask about our orders. Nope not done yet. Ok. Sit there another 20 minutes. Still nothing. Ask again "so sorry. It's still not ready". We ordered 2 chili dogs and a sandwich. We finally get up to leave and see them bringing two steaks out to people who came in 20 minutes after we did. Now, we're pretty patient people and understand being short staffed but this was beyond ridiculous. We sat there for over an hour while other people got their food and no one even came to our table to tell us what was going on. We love the food here but probably won't be going back, unfortunately. I'm not sure what the problem is with management or their serving staff but they really need to do something. Don't seat so many people if you can't handle the demand. read more

Came here for a New Year's dinner. A little disappointed in the 24 oz. Cowboy Ribeye for 24.99. As you can see 1/3 of it was fat. I asked the waitress and they said they cut it off from a large loin and that it had a large section of marbling. That was not marbling, that was fat that should never of made it to a plate. Regardless, the meat was tasty but a bit pricey since you actually only get a 16 ounce steak because the other 8 that is served to you is fat. This is one of my favorites in Battle Creek for lunch and an occasional dinner. This place is out of the way on the corner of Emmett St and N. Raymond RD in Emmett Township. When you pull in, don't let the "dive" Vibe bother you. This place will be worth stopping in. Bar style food, salads, sandwiches, steaks and burgers are the big themes here. I have tried most of them and can say I have not been disappointed yet. As a recommendation, If you like French onion soup, give theirs a try. It is one of my personal favorites. Don't get me wrong, this is not fine dining and while you can bring kids here, this would not be a place I would go for a family night out. While they have a food venue, this is still a bar. It is small, dark and there is not much in terms of choice for kids meals or kid friendly foods. So if you are looking for a great place to grab some lunch or a good dinner and a drink with friends or the better half. This would be a great place at an affordable price to visit. read more

Unfortunately we had terrible service and one person never did receive her food. We ask to speak with the manager and no one would come to speak to us. What's not to love about that combination? I was definitely happy with my order, and I'm curious to try some of the other options on the menu when life takes us back to BC and we need to dine out in the city. McGonigle's is definitely A-OK. I do not know why it took me so long to review this place. I have been going here for years and have never been disappointed in a meal here. I honestly do not know how they make money at this place. Portions are huge with take aways often, drinks are strong and pours are long, food is fresh and made in house. I usually get the Cobb Salad and the chicken is the BEST! Sometimes I even get a chicken breast to go because no one knows how to marinade and cook a chicken breast like this place. It is always cooked perfectly and is juicy! Burgers, sandwiches, salads, soups, specials, pizza...all are good. They are not only good, they are some of the best food in all of Battle Creek. The atmosphere of the place is nice, too. The crust while light has a great crunch and with the garlic butter makes it a coveted part of the pizza. Their pizza's are not for the lactose intolerant. What a hidden gem! Don't let the outside fool you. It looks like a typical greasy spoon bar from the outside, but based on Yelp reviews, we passed up the chain restaurant to give this place a try. Their pan fried walleye was very good. If they could put a pecan crust or something on it, that fish would be top-notch. You get a salad, garlic bread, and your choice of potato or vegetable. I have my leftovers for an extra meal. My husband ordered the chicken Parmesan, which gave you enough pasta for a week. I always enjoy new restaurants, especially local places.
