Authentic Dim Sum in the Heart of Amsterdam If you are looking for authentic Chinese flavors near…read morethe Red Light District/Chinatown, Oriental City is the place to go. It's a multi-level restaurant that stays packed during prime hours, which is always a good sign for the food quality. They serve Dim Sum all day, which is a huge plus. The flavors are very traditional. While the Dim Sum was solid across the board, the Beef Chow Fun was the absolute standout--perfectly prepared with that signature "wok hei" (breath of the wok). The staff isn't necessarily warm and fuzzy, but they are efficient. Don't expect a long chat, but you'll get your food quickly. Be prepared for a bit of a climb; the restaurant spans several floors and it appears to be stairs-only. It gets very crowded, so timing your visit is key. A must-visit for Chinese food fans in Amsterdam. Just be ready for a lively, busy environment!

This particular restaurant satisfied my craving for Asian food, located next to the Red Light District. Service was very helpful and friendly, food was just as good! Was also interesting to see the Asian staff speak Norwegian also to other customers. Great place to get your Asian food fix when traveling here.

We had the pin pie duck for starters, which was just plain good, and after that some very tasteful vegetarian dishes. I wanted to have something Asian for the evening, and so I look for Yelp, and find this place nearby. I go in, and there's only one other person - from Japan - eating. To be fair, there were few to-go orders in the meanwhile. First, I made it clear that I do not eat chicken and pork. I ask for soup that does NOT have chicken or pork, and for a dish that does not have chicken or pork. I order shrimp soup based on the recommendation, and assurance that this soup does not contain chicken or pork. When the soup comes out, it is clear that this is pork broth, as I can smell the pork. The dumplings, thankfully, were made with shrimp. The soup was so-so at best, as I do not like pork, and had that pork flavor to it. But, given that I've craved some soup for a while, I made efforts to finish. The main - Singapore mifan noodle, or rice noodle - I asked what roast meat (in the menu) was in, and she assured that there is NO meat, and definitely no pork and no chicken. Well, when the food comes out, sure enough, there are pork everywhere. I carefully separated the pork, and ate the noodles. In the meanwhile, I asked for a glass of tap water. After the meal - eaten rather laboriously, since they all contained pork - I get the bill. The soup was 6.50, the noodle was 10, but the mysteriously, the bill was for 19.50. I paid, and as I left, I asked how much was the noodle. She says 10, and soup was 6.50, and the tap water was 2.00. Still, the 1.00 is not accounted for, but what's the point - I wasn't returning to this place again, not after this experience with mediocre food, and worst of all, feeling taken advantage of - I just left. And, made sure to write about the experience in Yelp, lest anyone else, especially if you don't speak Dutch or Chinese, fall into their trap.

I ordered delivery from here on a Friday night through the thuisbezorgd app, and I got a…read moreconfirmation message that they got my order, a message with an ETA for food arrival (30 minutes) which was pretty accurate, and another message when the food was ready and on its way. I was pleased with all the communication I received, since I was never left guessing where my food was or when we could eat. As for the food, it was pretty good too. My husband ordered the fried rice (nasi) with chicken satay covered in peanut sauce, and I liked his dish better than my own, since the fried rice was spot on and tasted just like the fried rice I used to order in Chicago. I have been searching for that exact kind of fried rice here for over 3 years, and I finally found it! The chicken pieces on the satay were kind of dry, but I didn't mind that so much. I was totally in love with the fried rice, with my addition of spicy mustard. Nom nom nom. I ordered a chicken roti speciaal with extra sauce, and they were serious about the 'extra sauce' part, as my chicken and green beans and potatoes were swimming in a watery gravy in the takeout tub. The roti kind of fell apart and had some corn meal leaking out of it, so I don't know if it's supposed to do that or not, but it seemed a little weird. But it was all good. I would have liked the normal amount of sauce in hindsight, since I think the flavors would have been stronger. As it was I employed the little bags of spicy sauce they provided to boost the flavors. We also ordered a half roast chicken, and that was moist and warm but it felt like it was pumped full of salt or preservatives or something so that it seemed a little processed. But it came pre-sliced which was convenient, and it was a great source of protein. We were both well impressed and were eating until we were past full, it was all so good. We tried to eat it all but couldn't. It made great leftovers for the rest of the weekend, though. I will definitely be ordering from this place again in the future.
