This is a great forum to express the legal extortion that occurs within this county. Here's my story and how it all starts with the Mr. Trexler, who does not belief in transparency. My nightmare started on 8/1/2023 with my wife and I returning from our vacation in Florida. I was traveling NB on 95, in the middle lane when I seen Mr. Parker standing on the side of the road with something in his hands. As I get closer, I look at my speed 81, 82. I look back and Parker is running to his car! Parker jumps in his car, lights blaring closes the gap between me and himself extremely quickly. Parker proceeds to tailgate me, until I pull over to the shoulder. Very, very, very unsafe by the unprofessional person. Parker approaches my driver side window. Parker informs me that he pulled me over for "driving at an excessive speed". Never in my 60 years have I NOT been told how fast I was traveling to be pulled over. No transparency. Identifies himself, and ask for my drivers license. He sprints away, with my license returning quickly and hands me a citation for 87 MPH in a 70 MPH zone. I ask, how did you clock me? Parker, immediately points to my cruise control to verify this legal extortion. When I was in Florida I had my cruise set to 85, not in Georgia, and definitely not in the middle lane. That was his justification on the stop. I point out that if I indeed had my cruise set to 85, then why write the ticket for 87? Parker's response was he used laser as his clocking device and it was just calibration 2.5 days ago. LOL I FOIA Parkers P.O.S.T records (Ga. Training Records), his salary, the calibration certificates for the tuning forks used during my traffic stop. There was more things I requested, but I won't list them all. The leader of this pack is Trexler, he is an elected official who denied my FOIA request, based on the case is still open. I need to file a discovery to obtain this information. Holy balls batman! I was looking up how to leave reviews for these folks and man everyone is saying the same thing as me! I was going with the flow of traffic and the officer said I was doing 83... I said sorry sir I don't know how I was going faster than the guy in front of me when we're in traffic and I can't go anywhere. He said don't worry, didn't ask for my registration or insurance just for my driver's license, about 3 minutes pasted, he came back said thank you for your service, handed me a ticket and let me on my way... It wasn't until we stopped to gas up that I looked at the ticket and he wrote me up for 87! That's reckless driving and now I'm out $400 when I was with the flow of traffic!! Hands down the most corrupt department I've ever had the unfortunate pleasure to deal with... The Sheriff, Stephen Jessup, needs to either evaluate his staff unless he's in on it as well... read more

On the morning of December 30th, 2017, my family and I were traveling 95 south in McIntosh County. We were on our way to my hometown of Brunswick, Georgia. I noticed that a police officer had pulled a vehicle over in the emergency lane. Per the Move Over Law: Georgia Code, Title 40-6-16, I slowed down and proceeded to the middle lane. The law states the following: "Motorists travelling in the lane adjacent to the shoulder must move-over one lane when emergency and utility vehicles are stopped on the side of the highway and operating in an official capacity. Vehicles included in the law include all first responders (law enforcement, fire, EMS), utility vehicles, DOT vehicles, HERO Units and wreckers tending to an accident. The law is meant to keep officers AND traffic violators safe from crashes with passing cars. Thus, I eventually moved back from the middle lane to the far right lane. However, soon afterwards, the same sheriff's deputy got behind me and pulled me over. Once the deputy approached my vehicle, I questioned if I had been speeding. She affirmed, "No!" I further inquired if I had a broken taillight, and again, she divulged, "No!" She then admitted that she had stopped me to find out "why" I was traveling so slowly and that I failed to maintain my lane. She further stated that she had clocked me at 61 MPH and that it was too slow for conditions. I was flummoxed as to why I had been stopped because the minimum speed posted was 40 MPH and the speed limit posted was 70 MPH. At any rate, the officer, who I now identify as B. Hogan requested my license to conduct a background check. She proceeded to her patrol car and returned to my vehicle shortly afterwards after finding nothing amiss. Officer Hogan aggressively stated the following things in a bullying, abusive, threatening, unprofessional, and condescending manner: "You need take Highway 17. You're traveling too slowly and these other vehicles are going to run you over. (Please note that we were in a Toyota Sequoia, which is a very large SUV). I should impound your vehicle and you would have to get a rental car. I should issue you a citation for traveling too slowly, but instead I'm going to ticket you for failure to maintain your lane. Your court date is February 14th. If you do not pay the fine, you're going to be arrested and your license will be suspended". Officer B. Hogan's behavior was unprofessional, unmerited, downright despicable, and I believe, racially driven. I was very intimidated by the officer's aggressive behavior which ultimately has caused me to have panic attacks and lose sleep. In addition to that, my husband and children were frightened by the officer's demeanor and aggressiveness. I felt that she was prepared to arrest me if I responded with the same level of condescension and aggression that she had provided me. The officer then proceeded down the highway to the medium where at least three other sheriff's vehicles were located. In fact, we noticed that there were at least 6 McIntosh County Police vehicles aggressively policing the area on this day. Although I disagreed with the officer, I refused openly to verbalize it. I feared becoming another victim such as, George Alston, who filed a lawsuit against the Darien Police Department due to constitutional violations of the First Amendment and Fourth Amendment. I actually imagined myself becoming the next Sandra Bland. So, I immediately contacted the sheriff's office to issue a verbal complaint. I was told to report the complaint in person. However, I've decided to issue my grievance by paper due to learning that those who file complaints are often retaliated against, arrested, and charged with making false statements. As a result, we're requesting a full investigation of this matter. Move Over or Pay in McIntosh County, Georgia The following is a summary of my account what happened as I was travelling southbound on I95 on December 20th, 2017 when I was ticketed for improper passing of an emergency vehicle, a violation of Georgia Statute 40-6-16, also known as the Spencer Pass Law or more commonly called the Move Over Law. I was exiting I95 at exit 57 for my wife to use the restroom and purchase some sundry items there. There was a police officer on the shoulder of the road who was engaged with another vehicle that he had pulled over. He was a good 10 yards off the side of the road and right before exit 57. Not having seen any signs in Georgia stating the existence of any move over law, I was unaware if there was one. Being a citizen of Florida and being aware of our move over law which says to move over for emergency vehicles and if not possible to slow down to 20 miles below the speed limit. Since the officer was right in front of the exit and there was not enough time to move over to the other lane and then back again without missing the exit, I slowed my speed to 50 miles an hour which is 20 below the posted speed limit which is what Florida state law would require. While waiting for my wife to come out of the Shell gas station, Officer R Perry badge #1253 approached my vehicle and claimed that I had almost hit him. I assured him that I had the utmost concern and regard for his safety and had slowed my speed accordingly when approaching his vehicle as I thought that this was the proper driving etiquette. He said that he approximated my speed to be about 60 mph and his citation seems to indicate his use of radar however I am not familiar with radar providing approximations of speed. I also thought that it was odd that he was using a tobacco product in his mouth while speaking to me which I found both rude and unhygienic as most first responders in the area where I live are prohibited from the use of tobacco products even while off duty. He assured me that he was permitted to use tobacco products while on duty. I asked him what would have been the proper speed to reduce to since I was not able to move over to the vacant lane or I would have missed the exit. He did not know the answer which I thought was rather odd. I then called the Sheriff's office for McIntosh County and the lady who answered the phone who never did identify herself confirmed that yes, Deputies were permitted the use of tobacco products while on duty and added that, "this is McIntosh County and the Sheriff makes up his own rules." I then asked her about the move over law and if I was not able to move over then what would be the proper speed to reduce my speed to. She also did not have a definite answer and then after further questioning said "well, maybe 40 mph would be good." Then she said, "Well the Sheriff is standing right here, would you like to talk to him." So I said yes and she put me on hold only to come back on the phone and say "The sheriff says that if you got a ticket then you need to take it up with the judge!" and then she hung up on me. I called back and said, "Excuse me but I think that we were disconnected somehow." And she said, "No, I hung up on you," and she sounded amused. I explained that that was not very professional only to have her hang up on me again. After finding the move over law in Georgia on Google I now see why the deputies did not have an answer for the proper speed to reduce to as the Georgia law leaves it open to interpretation and reads "If a lane change under paragraph (1) of this subsection would be impossible, prohibited by law, or unsafe, reduce the speed of the motor vehicle to a reasonable and proper speed for the existing road and traffic conditions, which speed shall be less than the posted speed limit, and be prepared to stop." With my 35 years of driving history and the recent motorcycle safety rider course that I just completed this past June, I believe that rapid lane changes are an unsafe practice which is why I did not move to the center lane and then attempt to change lanes again rapidly in order to make the exit that I was intending to use. Plus I likely would have missed my exit. This is why I slowed my speed to below the posted speed limit which Officer Perry's radar report will verify. Please rest assured that I have the utmost respect and concern for the safety of the officers on the street that uphold our laws today. I highly value and appreciate the time, effort, and risk that these people sacrifice for the greater good of our society. So after a phone call to the McIntosh County clerk's office, I come to find out that the fine for this violation is $705 which is $205 more than the Georgia Statute permits. On Dec 31, 2018 I was traveling I95S bound and a man in a black truck hit me. I pulled over and called 911. The dispatcher was very rude and impatient because I didn't know exactly where I was. I was shaking and trying to figure out where I was while she's screaming over and over: I can't help you if I don't know where you're at! I say hold on for a second please I just had an accident let me figure this out. I just need some patience! She then says: You don't have to get an attitude! She sounds like she put the phone down and I have to yell into the phone to get her to come back to tell her where I am. A while later a rude female sherrif shows up and says : You know we could've been here sooner. She began to ask questions and cuts me off mid sentence. I was so relieved when Sergeant Major Beckham showed up and took over. He seemed like he was just trying to find out the truth. He was the only light in this otherwise dark situation. I am a disabled veteran with PTSD. Being treated so disrespectfully has made my PTSD worse. read more
