Get over the cost factor, the uncomfortable factor, the pain factor, and just do it! All those concerns will be put at ease if you book a visit with these guys - my personal experience is only with Dr Victor Young, so I can only vouch for his professionalism, honesty and attentive work. I went in a few weeks ago and had two fillings done then and there on my first visit; I had the option if I wanted to come back and just pay for the consult, which was just over $40 I think, but opted to have it all done at once, and it only set me back $480 total - that was very good price, and in this case 'cheap' DOES NOT equate with 'nasty'. This Doc has been a partner with Avondale Dental for over 13 years (found that out with print media, he was not the one that told me), and talked me through everything that he was doing, gave me options and in no way pushed all the 'extra's' on to me to earn extra cash. Really happy to have found such a great all round dentist - don't retire or go anywhere soon Dr Young!

I have no TMJ but I did have a chunk missing from a tooth that had come up against a beer bottle and lost, so I went along. The staff were all really friendly and the dentist himself was easy-going and put me at ease. We talked about the chip in my tooth and I also said I had wisdom teeth that I'd been told would have to come out at some point. He had a look at them and said that actually had come in straight and complication free, so unless I found them uncomfortable they could actually just stay there quite happily. Why is this significant? Because by saying this he lost himself hundreds - if not thousands - of dollars of work, but that wasn't his main concern. That's why I'll go back to them (although not to get my wisdom teeth out).

I had a bad wisdom tooth which had been painful on and off for a long time. I went to a Dentist in the UK, they took an X Ray of it and said there was no way they could take it out. So I was a little sceptical whether this chap could sort it but he looked at it, took an X Ray and said he could remove it. I was expecting to go through a bit of pain with this procedure but it turned out fine. He extracted it and I could feel it coming out - it was big and there was some blood. But his nurse cleaned it up and sent me on my way. Overall, I thought this a professional service and had complete trust in him. He and the nurse were very friendly to me too and put me at ease. Fortunately, I have had no trouble with my teeth since then but if I do, I'll be back to him.

We discovered Joe, the owner, gained his clinical dental technician degree from Otago and has worked out West for a while before opening his own practice. Joe was very friendly and definitely accommodating for the concerns my elder family friend raised. What she wants is the perfect fit and he argues they can provide. My friend is thinking about it but definitely they are high on the list of denture providers she is considering.

The fact that they usually charge a small fortune is yet another reason to avoid going to the dentist, however none of these issues are that relevant when considering Green Bay Dental. Green Bay Dental is dedicated to providing locals with all the dental services they require - with hygienists, orthodontists and dentists on hand - and are determined to do so for a reasonable price. These guys understand how difficult it can be to find both the time and the money one needs to properly take care of their teeth and gums, so try to make the entire process as easy, pain free and cost effective as possible. Not only is this mindset a huge bonus, but the staff at Green Bay Dental are also the nicest dentists and hygienists I've ever met. I recommend seeing Dr. Bruce Perrett, in particular. He is really friendly, pretty funny, works quickly and thoroughly and always has great artwork on the ceiling above his dentist chair. Next time you're due for a dental check up or need some serious dental work done make sure you give Bruce and his dental team at Green Bay a call - you won't regret signing up with these guys!

And even without a community service card, their services are pretty cheap. But on the other hand you do kind of get what you pay for in many ways. While I don't doubt the ability of the dentist I went to, you do really miss out on the service. The dentist had a pretty bad bedside manner and didn't properly explain what he was doing to me. This didn't give me a huge amount of confidence. In saying that though, I think for the price you pay you get a huge amount of value, you just have to put up with below-par customer service.

When your kid needs an orthodontist, the district Dental Nurse gives you a list from which to…read morechoose one. It's pretty much a random selection, although I did pull up the websites of a couple (which again, don't much help with differentiating one from another). I chose Janice in the end because her website was comprehensive but mainly because of her location which works for us. I'm glad I did because it turns out she's really good. When I had orthodontic treatment as a kid in the 80s it involved extractions (in my case 8, yes 8 permanent teeth!) followed by braces, followed by a retainer. Years passed and thousands of (my parents') dollars were spent. Our experience with Janice started with photographs and x-rays followed by a thorough consultation with all the corresponding paperwork explaining the treatment plan and costs. Fees paid upfront get a discount and there are absolutely no hidden costs. We are now unlucky enough to have all three of our children under Janice's care but due to the technical advances and undoubtedly Janice's superior skills, it is looking like only one of our three will actually need braces. That's not to say we haven't had to spend money on expanders and retainers but with these alternative interventions we've hopefully saved not only heaps of dosh, but also the dreaded metal-mouth for two thirds of the short people in the house. I really can't recommend Janice highly enough; she is surrounded by a fabulous friendly and efficient team, her offices are lovely and her whole business is very kid-friendly which is important. Nothing is ever too much trouble and all appointments, including unplanned ones for unforeseen hiccups (my daughter's appliance proved particularly challenging in the early days) are all covered up front. If you need an orthodontist, go here.
