The ice rink is by far the worst rink in the St. Louis area. It is poorly staffed and never cleaned properly. The walls are covered in mold/mildew and have been for years now. The bleachers have not been cleaned once in the 3 years I have been going. And it's easily proven by the multiple spills that are never cleaned. The concessions stand really only has drinks and candy. Any other hot food you should eat at your own risk. The bathrooms are always dirty and have had broken toilets, faucets, and towel dispensers for as long as I can remember. There really is no upkeep going on at all here. The automatic front door has been broken for years, also. This place is poorly managed, and I do not see it getting better any time soon. Some of the other rinks in the area are much older but are taken care of much better. I have not spent much time on the Pool/gym side, but I have heard from others that it isn't much better. read more

I was so excited when I found out they were building a new ice rink and when it first opened we had high hopes that it would be a great rink. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like it's being taken care of like it should be. The snack bar is just kind of sad. Yesterday we ordered a pretzel with cheese and some rice krispy treats and a hot chocolate. The pretzel was semi warm and the cheese was cold. The rice krispy treat were packaged in Valentine's Day packaging... it's October... they were really stale. The hot chocolate was hot at least but it's just the packets of hot chocolate added to hot water. There's also nowhere to go warm up. The lobby is S cold as the rink. There's no tables to eat at downstairs either. It's just starting to look run down and the bathrooms are always dirty. So much money was spent building a great facility. I really hope things turn around and they are able to turn it back into the ice rink it should be. read more

This is a very nice facility for hockey. One tip!!!!! Overdress and bring a blanket. This place is a meat locker. I get it, its a hockey rink its going to be cold. I have been to plenty of other rinks and they turn on the heat and you can be comfortable. As new and nice this place is there should be no problem keeping the fans comfortable. read more

The practice rink is not the best to view a game. Be prepared to not see the scoreboard because it's behind the seating area. That made sense! Be prepared to stand as there really isn't much seating. If you have a mite/8U game, you are definitely standing when your kid plays on the other end of the ice. They do have a perfectly good rink with great viewing, but your team won't play there because they use it for figure skating, practices, and other low attending functions. read more

On January 26, I called the Rec Plex asking about open skate for a group of students. The man who answered the phone told me no reservations were necessary and that the open skate was most Saturdays from 7-9pm. So I asked about my specific date and he said it was an open skate day. Again I asked if they needed to note that we were coming because we were a large group... he insisted we should just come on over. We loaded up the bus, drove over an hour, only to find out that there was a hockey tournament on both rinks... and we had a disappointed group of teens. Fortunately we found someplace to take them, but I am so upset that my concern about reservations was brushed off and turned out to be right. Boo Rec Plex staff. read more

Best lighting ive seen in a rink, really. Most ice rinks have dark patches on the ice between the lights, this was carefully planned. The glass is very much skid free And the larger rink is better climate controlled. Nice benches too and great sound. I did not see a pro shop but im sure they'll add one, my GPS didnt know about this rink yet. Pro scoreboard! Fast wifi +++ A build of this caliber would break the bank in California, well done. I am not the biggest fan of this gym. It has a pool and ice rink which is cool But unless you are planning to use those amenities frequently I would choose a different gym. It is set up oddly and it is just a dreary place. I know that may seem an odd thing to note about a gym but if I dont like the atmosphere I'm less likely to go...and well, thay defeats the purpose of a gym! read more

Trash pilled up along the building, grass that is left un mowed and knee high. Broken doors upon entry way. Room signs left half hanging along the hallway. Broken floor tile in the shower. Rusted shower curtain rod and shower hardware. Gum left on the wall in the stairwell. Broken seat on the chest press, broken chest pull machine, broken leg press machine in weight room. Broken and shattered floor tiles on the pool deck that cut you when you exit the pool. They can't regulate the temperature of the facility. Weight room- hot, track- hot, pool deck-hot. With the combined non functional air handlers hot air and hot pool water the chlorine gas is unbearable, causing swimmers to have to leave the facility due to becoming sick from the toxic gas build up. One evening they were using a gas water pump mere feet from the open door to empty the rec. pool causing exhaust to fill the pool room. read more

Nothing works the way it should from ice that's more like a pond to "coaches" who do not care about your child learning to skate or play hockey to "online register" that is done by hand. Run to new Fairview Heights facility or STL - don't walk! read more

This place is brand new but the layout is very strange. There is only one row of cardio equipment on the top level, many of them have a great view of the drywall. The functional fitness area is small and lacks a lot of the basic equipment one might find (like jump ropes!) What's with the tiny locker rooms? No sauna? Not to mention the locker rooms are adjacent to the pool so it's always hot and humid in there, even with the fan they stuck in there. I do like the weight room, and unfortunately that's about it. The gym was close to where I worked so I figured it would be an easy stop after work. Well then Covid hit and I worked from home which is over 40 minutes away. I tried calling them to cancel, they said I would have to do so in person. Or they could email me the form to send back. Have tried to do both emailing the form didn't work. I happened to finally be in the area and stopped in and filled the cancelation paperwork out and handed it to them. No one mentioned I would continue to be charged because of something in the contract saying there was a policy that allowed them to. I never heard this when I signed up so I was surprised to see this on my bank statement after I cancelled. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS!!! Does not matter if you haven't been to their gym in over a year or you don't even live in the area, they don't care. read more

This place and the staff are great!! Being military and TDY here to Scott AFB, this facility and staff are trying very hard to give us an alternative to just sitting at home. After a few months of cv lock down it was great to get back to the pool, hit the cardio and be treated very nice by the staff. Beware of signing up with this facility. They do not understand finacial hardships people are going through. They lied to me and told me I could cancel at any time with the higher paid no contract plan. They will not stop charging my account. I called the facility and told them I keep seeing charges on my card. They informed me they have to keep charging my account until February for the no contract contract (Makes 0 sense). When I came in to cancel because my work load dropped due to COVID the 2 people at the counter listened to my issue and told me I would be able to cancel and would NOT be charged another month after Decamber. I called today and a supervisor told me I will continue to have charges put on my card. I was infomed if I stop the charges through my account they will turn me into collections. This company is not understanding at all with the possibilities of finacial hardship people are facing with covid. Please do not go here. They used to be a wonderful understanding place, but now it is going away from member service. All they care aboit is money, no matter how they get it. Also I quit going here when I saw how dirty the pool is kept. Gum at the bottom and floating bandaids and hair ties in the water. Very gross with no efforts of anyome caring to clean or maintain. The sad thing about this: I wanted to go back when i could afford to. After what all I have been through with them I will never be back. Lived skating at the facility, but will go across the river elsewhere. Maybe have a meeting about member service. I allow my clients to break contracts if they come to me and tell me they have been affected by finacial hardships. Visited on 12/1/2019. Hockey locker rooms, showers, toilets look & smell like they have not been cleaned in months. Hand soap dispensers in bathrooms were empty, when we asked staff to fill them they said the whole building was out of soap. Hand towel dispensers broke & empty. read more

I wanted to join for the pool area itself due to bad knees and my doctor telling me that exercises in the water is what I needed. The YMCA was ridiculous with their joining fee and that is why I chose McKendree. The facility is poorly laid out and the locker room by the pool area is horribly laid out and dark and dismal. I do enjoy the pool area and I do get this is a recreational facility but when I'm trying to exercise in the smaller area it's hard if there are kids trying to play. That's on me though I guess. There is only 2 aqua classes at night during the week. I would like to see more. The employees are young kids and sometimes frankly rude in my opinion. They are just there for the money I get that but you are the face of the facility for goodness sake act like you care at least. Anyways I may see about finding something else but it's so convenient at this time as far as location. read more

Oh where to begin? I will start by saying that this is the one of the worst places you will ever come across in just about every category other than location. They even manage to blow patriotism by forcing out a hockey league that was created to support active duty military. Try to explore the building and you will quickly find out there is no interior signage of any kind. The first time I came to this building it took me 5 minutes to find the men's bathroom on the ice rink side (hint: its hidden behind the entry doors and will be the last place you look). Every couple of weeks they stick up some paper print outs on some of the rooms but they never last and often you will have no idea where you are going or what is in each room. This issue is compounded by the fact that none of the doors have windows either, so you may have to play a game of 'open every door you see' until you can find what you are looking for. The workout equipment is dated and worse than any gym in the area, including ones that are only $10 a month. Not only are there very few machines, but they also have no screens and are put right against the wall so you can not even watch one of the couple TVs they tried to stick on the wall to address this problem. it also just feels empty and deserted, because of the layout, lack of people, and lack of equipment. There is a half basketball court, but too bad they didn't make it big enough for basketball or volleyball games. Also the only thing separating the basketball court and the weight room is a wall that does not go to the ceiling. Yes basketballs have flown into the weight area, sounds super safe right? Moving on to the ice rinks, this is the area I have the most experience with, so it will be a little longer. They have two rinks: Rink A is alright and has a decent amount of seating that gives a great view of the ice, but as if they are playing a joke on everyone this is the one they melt down each year between April-October. This brings you then to Rink B, which actually is the main rink they use BY FAR if you base it on the amount of time they rent each sheet out in a year. I have gotten to skate on rink B hundreds of times, and rink A once. They also decided to buy a used compressor when they built the building, and it has been down at least 3 or 4 times in the first year and a half of operation. This is WAY more than any other rinks in the area, and the downtimes have been days or weeks. Rink B has no seating. They tried to fix this by putting some high-top bar stools on one end, so if you are one of the first 10-15 people there and don't mind a crappy view then its your lucky day! Lately, I have been noticing little metal nuts on the ice. The first time I saw this I though this must be from someone's equipment, but then I saw another the next day and after looking around I found these are coming from the pieces that hold the tops of the glass together. I guess there is nothing dangerous about skating full speed and stepping on one of these little guys because I haven't seen them do anything about it and it is still happening. The ice itself isn't the only problem with this part of the building. There is no concession stand. If you wanted a pretzel or some nachos while you watch your kids play then you are out of luck. If you are a coach or captain you will have to use the showers or the very slow water fountain to fill your bottles(rumor is the owner did this because he wanted people to buy the bottled water from the check-in area). DO NOT get your skates sharpened here. Not only do they do a horrible job, but they do not have all the cuts available. I have been to drop-ins that were double booked, sometimes multiple weeks in a row. I have shown up when the compressor was down with not even a note on the door. Just recently they decided to sell the 7pm and 8:15pm Wednesday ice slots, that has been bought by the Scott Hockey league since the first week the building opened, without any notice to another league from St Louis. The Scott Hockey league was created in part to support active duty military members by giving them an easy way to join a team and league without having to know anyone. The official rink hockey leagues are complete jokes. I played in the first session of the official rink adult league. It was one of the dirtiest leagues I have ever played in. They used employees for refs and because they currently play college hockey they did not enforce no-checking rules and would let their buddies get away with punching people in the face. It came as no surprise that when the next session started they didn't even have enough people to field two teams. They have tried two more times to restart the league and it has failed each time, the most recent time a whopping FOUR people signed up. So overall, there are MUCH MUCH better options and plenty that support the local community and the military as well. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

Owner is an open-pocketed yet close-minded moron who knows nothing about development and properly running a fitness facility and definitely should stay out of the ice rink part of things. Management is just about as clueless as he is and caters to his wants. Their trying to make a dime is running groups and users away to better places. The design of this building was an after thought and is an embarrassment. This place could have been the crown jewel of the St Louis area but ranks at the bottom for functional rinks. Should have went over to St Peters for ideas/ No decent concession stand, lots of un-necessary open space, strange seating configurations, no pro shop. Only half a basketball court and the layout of the machines around the track is strange. Practice rink acoustics are awful. Only positive is since it is new, it is nice and clean, for now. Still missing lots of things and have already made too many repairs to a facility that is just over a year old. Keep running the place into the ground and pushing users out, that way someone smarter can buy the place and run it properly. read more

I love their pools. They have a large competition pool and a smaller rec pool.with lap lanes. Between the two pools, they always have lanes available for working out. The pools are beautiful. The guards are friendly and helpful. It's a great facility. read more
