Explorations is the best camp in Montreal, hands down. This summer will be our third year back as a family. For our youngest daughter, we love that their program has a lot of physical activity and outdoor lessons. They do cool hands-on projects every day, often combining arts and science, and they have a music teacher who she adores. Once she reached the Grade 2 level at Explorations last year, I couldn't believe the things she was doing - things like origami, coding, and even woodworking. Every day she came home excited to tell us about something new she had tried. Our middle child has been doing their Intermediate/Senior program for a couple of years now, and they're a bit more specialized, picking three activities to do in July. Our son is really into tech, so I thought he would pick all robotics and coding classes, but he's also been choosing some performance arts. The music band activity they run is phenomenal (we ended going to the NDG Music School throughout the schoolyear because our son got hooked). He also loves their comedy class, and it has made a HUGE difference for him to be doing performance activities with other kids. This is what convinced us that Explorations the best camp in Montreal. There are other camps with theatre, and other camps with electronics, but I don't know of another camp where kids can choose to do both. They also have a bunch of arts like pottery, fashion design, and animation -- which our younger daughter is really excited to try when she's old enough. Our older daughter is nearing the end of highschool, and she tried the Panorama Program at Explorations last year. It's for older students and seems to be totally focused on science (seems like their only camp level that does not have loads of variety). So probably not a good fit for your child if they don't like science at all. The Panorama students travel to different places around the McGill campus, and it was great for our daughter's independence. She honestly didn't tell us too much about it, but she liked it enough that she wants to go back again this year, which speaks volumes from a teenager who says little. They have sports, too. I don't think it's their focus, but the younger kids do have a dedicated phys ed teacher and lots of active time, and the older kids have some choices of sports activities like fencing and archery. They have soccer, basketball, and dodgeball as options for kids to do during the break times (our son says their dodgeball system is great). So if your kid is purely an athlete and just wants to chase a ball all day, then Explorations might not be for them, but if they want to do sports as part of the day, then Explorations definitely accommodates that. So we love that Explorations camp is fantastic for all three of our children, at very different ages. The variety that the young kids get is frankly unbelievable. The choices for the older kids are really good for letting them have freedom to learn almost anything - and you may be surprised by your kid's choices! And I actually don't know of many camps that do a special program for older teens, so Explorations camp stands our for serving all ages of kids with activities that seem perfect for them. *Note: these comments are about their camp in July. I just looked at their website, and I think their programs in August are more specialized with fewer choices, but they still look great. We are also going to sign up for their Winter Break and March Break camps for the first time this year, and we'll update this review to comment on those programs.

Mille Roches was one of our least favorite campgrounds on our 9 day trip through Canada. Our tent…read moresite was next to the water and private, but on a huge slope. The only semi flat spot was on the very bottom next to the river. This would be a great site if you wanted to kayak. The only water site wasn't anywhere near our tent site. There wasn't a practical place to park our car, and due to the rain the site was muddy and our car almost got stuck. The roads are slippery and muddy. They really need to add some gravel to the roadway. The whole campground felt overgrown and unkempt. I wanted to take a shower before we left in the morning, but they lock the showers overnight. I don't think it's unreasonable to want to take a shower at 6:45. The river is pretty, but I wouldn't stay here ever again.

So much potential...just not quite good enough…read more Location: Ridiculously easy to get to from Mtl...its seriously one road the whole way (the 20/401 westbound), one exit (778) and one left turn (well technically also a right turn to get into the specific campground). Easy peasy! Plus bonus: there's a Timmy's less than a 5 minute drive from the campground! Campsites: This is where they lose their points...and it's such a damn shame because they have soooooo mannnnnyyyyy waterfronts!! We stayed at site 208 and while it definitely wasn't one of the better waterfront options....it was a pretty good indication of all of the other waterfront sites. That is to say they are all hellaaaa sloped! Huge ridiculous angles making it stoopid to park ur car let alone put up a tent. Some of the waterfronts did have less inclined slopes making them more reasonable as options (ex: 201 and 202 weren't nearly as bad). Any non waterfront site seemed just terrible in my opinion: either out in the open with no privacy or tucked into a bunch of mosquito ridden woods and tons of mud (it's been an especially rainy season this year). If u have an adjustable trailer this place would be awesome, but even then it'll put lots of pressure on the trailer legs and it would be a b*tch to get ur trailer in and out. Overall at 35$ a night for a waterfront u'd think they could afford to put some platform wedges down to make the sites decently camp-able in a tent. However, being able to fish off our site definitely does have it's allure, even tho we didn't catch anything. Scenery: Beautiful St Lawrence lake and surrounding typical Ontario forests. At sites 208- 199 u have a great view of the setting sun! Weather: Omg we were soooo unlucky!! It rained damn near the whole 2-1/2 days we were there! At first it was warm big rain drops with thunder n lightning so that was pretty kool...but then it just KEPT RAINING and got windier and windier and colder and more unpleasant. Sun did come out for brief periods but it was still super windy and not very pleasant. Water in the lake still felt warm but lack of nice weather made it so we didn't actually go swimming. Commodities/Accommodations: - DOGS ALLOWED! - Store also serves as the check in kiosk. There is wood (8$ for a cheap amount of meh- ok-wood, burns alright, terrible quantity for the price). There is also ice (3.25 per decent bag commercial ice cubes). They also offer a variety of groceries (ketchup hotdogs etc...) and i noticed some toys n very few fishing supplies (a coupla hooks etc..). Forgot to ask if they sold worms (i just gathered worms from under the many rocks on our campsite). They also had a Keurig with coffee and tea cups available. But we just drove the 5 mins to the Timmy's. - Shower and laundry facilities near the entrance. 3 other Flushable toilets and running warm water sinks bathrooms near some of the loops (not all). Don't take a site adjacent to a bathroom...they're all open n offer zero privacy. Across or nearby is fine tho. Activities: Plenty of beaches nearby (no alcohol nor dogs allowed on beaches), i think a couple of them had boat rentals. Plenty of parks for the kiddos ranging from just a swing set to the works. We just spent any nice weather fishing from our site. I didn't notice any hiking trails but there must of been some somewhere. Wildlife: Saw plenty of chipmunks both long tailed n short. Also saw a bunch of wild turkeys just ambling around. Plenty of birds of all kinds, different kinds of ducks and geese. That's about it. Tons of bugs (earwigs, spiders, ants, gnats), but we didn't get bit too much: bf got bit once, i think me too. Overall if the site hadn't have been so sloped (and most sites for that matter) ...and if we had gotten nicer weather which isn't the campground's fault but still has an effect because of how terrible this place gets bogged down by rain (MUD!!). And if there had been a better wood-to-price ratio ...well then it might've actually gotten 4 stars. Will be checking out the other 2 parks on these islands. Might come back here n give it another shot eventually.
