We got there and backed in. We liked the site at first, but decided to drive around the loop next door in search of a more suitable site. One was found that was unoccupied so we went back to the gatehouse to ask for a possible change. "Sure, no problem." He checked it and it was open. Our new site had privacy, good space, was clean and near a water spigot, the bathrooms, and was only a couple of sites from the manager, Steve, his wife Kay, and great dogs Kaya and Trump. Steve and Kay were friendly, informative, and went above and beyond to help us with any needs (like jumping my truck battery that I ran down while setting up camp with the doors open for too long.) Both dogs were very friendly and fun to visit with. Other positives included hikes along the lake, swimming at the Buck Pond beach (one young guy fishing from a kayak caught a 3.5 lb largemouth bass), and much, much more. Overall, Buck Pond Campground was a fine place to stay and enjoy the Adirondacks!

The sites are nicely spaced so that you're not bumping up against an RV rave. As with any campground, some sites are significantly nicer than others. We were in site 84, pretty damn sweet with its own little trail to the lake. Not gonna divulge what we scouted as THE best which you need to reserve 9 months in advance FYI. Schedule that with your French Laundry resies. They also had boat rentals and a map of the many waterways to explore. Highly suggest the rope swing if you come across it on Rainbow Lake. The ranger/campground manager Bob is just generally awesome. He fueled our little firelet into a great big burner. Smoky the Bear, watch out! Bob also has a ski store in Jay, NY and is a part time maple syrup maker should anyone fancy a winter excursion to the Adirondacks.

Taylor Pond Campground is down a dirt road on a beautiful pristine lake. It only has 25 campsites,…read more3 of which you can only reach by boat. Some of the sites are on the water but very open. Site 8 sits back in the woods away from everything with only a walk to the water. This is primitive camping at its finest. There's water, some incredibly clean pit toilets, and canoe rentals but that's about it. The campground is surrounded by 8,000 acres of state land and there's no development on the pond. There's a trail that goes around the lake but really if you come here it's all for the paddling.

Camp Kidura was pleasant when it came to certain things, but lacked certain necessities when spending so much money. I'll start with the good. Good: Beautiful View overlooking the water and mountains of the Adirondacks. The house was spacious and the appliances were up to par. The boat house was great and the patio on top was nice. Bad: The beds were the most uncomfortable beds I have ever laid in. My back hurt for most of the trip. Spending this much money on a house upstate - I would expect to have an amazing sleep. this right here would make me not come back unless they got new tempurpedics and better pillows. Half of the beds had no Box spring - hard as rocks. The others squeaked every cm I moved in. Secondly, there was no tv in the living room for everyone to watch - kinda didn't care for that either. Third, there was no lights on top of the patio to stay up at night. Fourth, there was no fire pit by the house of everyone to enjoy. Fifth, one of the rooms had no ceiling and everyone could be heard in that room especially with the tv on. Lastly, the neighbors house was literally on top of our house. I prefer to be secluded and that definitely bothered me because it was tight parking and uncomfortable. Fishing: Fishing was disappointing. I have been an avid fisherman my whole life and I've only managed to catch a 4/5lb once with a couple 1lb/1.5lb at best throughout the trip. Lake was super windy and I didn't care for that at all. Plenty of other fishing spots I'll be checking out next year. Overall: 3/5. Tight fit with the neighbors next to us hugging our house. Beds were very uncomfortable. Patio was nice but no light. Boat house was nice. View was nice. Fishing was okay at best.

They have a self-serve area where you can make coffee (they have Keurigs, cups, creamer, sugar, etc.), as well as good cereal, oatmeal, bread/english muffins). The rooms were suites- a large sitting area with couch, two chairs, TV, and a separate bedroom. One negative- the AC unit is in the sitting area so if you close the bedroom door at night the bedroom is not cooled. You must leave the door open when sleeping. Rooms were clean- but the disinfectant/cleaner they use has a strange smell that was a bit unpleasant. Recommend they find one that smells better. Bathroom was a typical motel bathroom- sink area, toilet, shower. Overall- good accommodations at a reasonable price (considering you ARE in a resort area).

So I checked my email and had nothing from them. Thankfully someone walked in the office and asked if I needed help. They said it was a text, not an email. I didn't receive a text either. He looked up my info and the text was sent to my home phone number. So he told me my door code. I couldn't remember that code all weekend, so I had to look it up on my phone every time, I'd rather have a key. Also, he didn't tell me how to enter it, but I figured it out. My husband had more trouble when he tried lol. Every time. That keypad is very very touchy. And the kids next door, fighting over who gets to enter the code, yelled it several times. So now the whole parking lot knows their code. I guess Shaheen's is doing a lot of remodeling. I think we had a new room? But I'm not sure if it's finished. The ceilings are painted black, trying to look elegant I suppose, but looks kinda creepy. Many white paint drips / smears everywhere, unfinished carpentry, chips on the freshly painted door. New beautiful bathroom has a large sink but it's completely flat and stuff doesn't rinse down without a ton of effort. Toilet roll is a far stretch to reach. Toilet seat is sharp, really high, and uncomfortable. I know I'm sounding picky here but it was a lot. There is zero soundproofing. Thank goodness we needed the air conditioner, it helped drown out noises from neighbors and construction. For some reason, there was a man sitting in a truck, right below our back window, smoking and playing music loudly. Two nights in a row. Not sure if he was a guest or a worker or what. Public water in the area must be brownish yellow because the new toilet always looked dirty. I noticed the same water in the lobby Keurig machine. I believe the ice machine has a filter because the ice looked clear. As we were leaving, we noticed a little old lady with oxygen was having trouble getting in her door. We watched for a few minutes then asked if she needed help. She told us her door code and we showed her how to do it, but now we have her code. So dangerous if we were the type to take advantage, thankfully we're not. The only plus - my motherinlaw called the hotel to ask if they had any amenities she could purchase for our wedding anniversary. The man said no, but he'd be happy to go get whatever she wanted. She suggested champagne and chocolate covered strawberries. He said he had to go to the store anyways, and he'd make it happen. She called the night before to make sure everything worked out, and he said he forgot! Jeez! He ended up getting a bottle of wine, a box of chocolates from Adirondack Chocolates, and even a card. A very nice touch! But we definitely won't be back.

That is essentially the level of the entire room. The mattress and pillows are awful. The bathroom is cramped and badly designed. The shower cannot maintain a constant temperature, and the tub drains so slowly that you end up standing in dirty, slippery water. Mine has not been properly cleaned in three days and now has a gray-green ring of grime around it. A lake view cannot compensate for a room where you sleep badly and dread taking a shower.

Some of the other rooms we peaked in had been refreshed and looked much nicer. The owner is a fine fellow, easy to work with and get registered even on the 4th and us coming last minute. The price is nice too, we paid around $75. The location is out of town a bit, but in a good way. It is close to the state boat launch which we hung out at on their dock even though we didn't have a boat. There is also a city pump house right on the water very close, easy walk, and for sunset we brought our wine and blanket and chilled out there with no problem for a few hours. Very close to a big boat rental place (non motorized) and a lot of the people staying here were renting kayaks or canoes for day trips. Dog friendly too, at least for us, so that was a key factor in choosing this palce.
